ZELDRÉ SWANEPOEL
N EARLY12years agohewarned that the currentstormwater system inthe Lorraine area would
collapse andcausemajordamagedur-ing heavy floods.
In the middle of 2010 Ward 8 DACouncillor Gustav Rautenbach’swarnings were heeded and a brand-new stormwater pipeline was ap-proved and installed along MaconRoad in Lorraine.
“That, however, was just the firstphase. The problem will only be alle-viated when the second phase is com-pleted, but now there is apparently nobudget for it,” said Rautenbach. Thefirst phase cost about R3.5 million, and the second phase is estimated tocost around R11 million. But he haslittle hope that the second phase willbe completed due to financial con-straints.
In the Metro Minutes publication itis stated that the “Nelson MandelaBay Municipality has an operationalmaintenance backlog of R1.4 billion. The bulk of the backlog, nearly R1.2billion, is required by the Infrastruc-ture and Engineering Directorate.”
Rautenbach explained that theproblem with stormwater drainage isnot unique to the Lorraine area, andthe reason for the problem with thecity’sdrainagesystemis that itwasn’tdesigned to keep up with the popula-tion explosion.
“The maximum lifespan of thesepipes is about 30 years. The more
houses that are being built, the morepressure is put on these old pipes, andwithout maintenance and or replac-ing these pipes, we will always havethis problem of overflowing drains.”
Currently there are four drainscausing major problems with over-flooding in Ward 8, i.e. Marne Ave-nue, Lyon Crescent, Tarn Avenue, and on the corner of Henry Gerberand Carstens Way. Water can be seenflowing out of the drain and down thestreet in Marne Avenue. The drain isso full of water that a sinkhole is start-ing to form next to the spilling drain.
Rautenbach says when the city ex-periences heavy rains, the drainsoverflow so much that residents’propertiesaredamaged. “There isoneresident who had a problem whereboth the storm water and sewageoverflowed into her property. We stilldon’t know how that is even possible, because the stormwater and sewagehave separate systems.”
Municipal spokesperson KupidoBaron’s comment was that council-lors should address such issues at amunicipal forum. “They should dis-cuss these issues in a council set-up,”he said.
In response to the municipal com-ment, Rautenbach said that he hadfollowed the correct procedure bycontacting the relevant departmentsand also had site inspections done byvarious senior municipal officials.
“I reported the overflowing drainsin August and November last yearand was told that the work had to becontractedoutbecause themunicipal-ity didn’t have the right machinery.”(See photo on page 5.)

PE EXPRESS REPORTER
EMPLOYEES who are injured onduty and are trying to processclaims with the CompensationFund, find that they are hittingtheir heads against a brick wall.
Recent system migration at theCompensation Fund is causing back-logs and consequently results in ad-ministrative headaches for employ-ers, employees and healthcare serv-ice providers who struggle to gettheir money paid out from the Com-pensation Fund.
The compensation for employeeswho have been injured on duty is leg-islated by the Department of Labour.
The backlog of payments goes asfar back as October 2011.
This situation has compelledCompSol, a company specialising in
providing end-to-end injury on duty(IOD) processes, to step in and assistclaimants.
“As key players in the IOD indus-try, we welcome the fact that theCompensation Fund has decided toimplement an electronic system, asliterally millions of documents needto be captured each day. We also ac-cept that any system migration hasdifficulties, but – as an industry – weneed to put our heads together andfind a way to address the current sit-uation which is becoming unman-ageable,” said Fritz Lüttich, manag-ing director of CompSol.
“Not a single medical account sub-mitted to the Compensation Fundsince October 2011 has been paid tomedical service providers treatinginjured workers,” said Lüttich.
Lüttich added that compensationpayments to injured workers didcommence on the new system, but
was discontinued shortly afterwardsdue to a glitch in the system.
“CompSol have undertaken tomaintain their service standards totheir medical service providers andemployer clients who use their sys-tems, thereby enabling both partiesto receive payments due to them.CompSol is also in contact with theCompensation Fund to find a way forall stakeholders in the IOD industryto collaborate and overcome the cur-rent system glitches,” Lüttich said.
CompSol will continue to engagewith the Compensation Fund and of-fer their expertise to reduce the pres-sure.
“In the meantime our priority andfocus will be to assist our medicalservice providers, employers andemployee clients to ensure that theygo through the claiming process aseasily as possible and receive com-pensation timeously,” said Luttich.

Ollis beweer Zanoxolo Way-

Parliament. Making Democracy Work.
THE ABay WheelchairWednesday initiativewhich takes place in theNelson Mandela Bay dur-ing the month of May willraise funds for the APD DayCare Centre in Motherwellwhere they tend to 29 chil-dren with disabilities be-tween the ages of 1 and 7years.
The APD Day Care andStimulation Centre for Chil-dren with Disabilities was es-tablished in June 2006 fromhumble beginnings as a sub-program of APD Nelson Man-dela Bay’s existing programfor children with disabilities.
In 2007, APD securedpremises in KwaZakhele andstarted with six children. Thedemand for this service grewto the extent that they neededmore space and during 2007they moved into a room kind-ly offered by the JB VusiMethodist Church in Kwaza-khele.
In February 2008, the APDDaycare Centre moved totheir existing premises inMotherwell. This move pro-vided more space to imple-ment rehabilitation and stim-ulationprograms.Theattend-ance and demand grew from10 to 39 children.
A social worker was em-ployed. This enabled them tobecome more involved in thelives of the children’s fami-lies.
The children are transport-ed to and from their homes ina specially-adapted bus. With
their wheelchair program, they were able to providemuch-needed assistive devic-es. Missionary students com-pleted murals on some of thewalls to enhance and improvethe look of the daycare centre. This created a friendly andstimulating environment forthe children.
The increased number ofchildren has resulted in thesituation that they need torun two trips, resulting insome of the children beingable to spend less time at thecentre.
As a result there is a needfor another bus and driver. All the children, forwhomtheparents/caregivers receive agrant, are from impoverishedfamilies in the townships.
From their on-site kitchen,APD have, with the assist-ance of a professional dieti-cian, been able to ensure thatthe children receive two bal-anced meals a day.
Other services providedvia the APD Daycare Centrefacility include::
• Provision of the neces-sary therapeutic exercises forthe children enrolled at thecentre.
• Ongoing training for thestaff and volunteers in thestimulation and care of thechildren in their care.
• Ongoing training of moth-ers and caregivers to contin-ue with the stimulation andcare of the children at home.
• Availability of rehabilita-tion services for childrenwith the disabilities in the
townships who are enrolledat the Daycare Centre.
• Referrals to other special-ist services/assessment tospecial schools are donethrough this service.
• Minimizing the risk of ne-glect and deprivation of thesevulnerable children.
• The service itself is an in-ter-disciplinary one and isstaffed by a social worker, physiotherapists and occupa-tional therapists.
Looking ahead, it is theAPD Daycare Centre’s hopethat they might well be subsi-dized by Department of SocialDevelopment.
The roll-out program in-cludes extending this serviceto other areas within NelsonMandela Bay; namely Uiten-hage, KwaZakhele, Walmerand the Northern areas.
A recent achievementworth mentioning is the factthat in February 2011, 2 of thechildren underwent opera-tions at Livingstone Hospital.Due to the fact that their ham-strings were too short, theycould only crawl.
Their hamstrings werelengthened. Both childrennow walk with the aid of awalker. The APD DaycareCentre Staff are hopeful thatshe will soon be able to walkwithout any assistance.
Managing the daycare cen-tre is an expensive operation. The average monthly cost ofsustaining the facility isR45 000. They do not receiveany assistance from the gov-ernment.

of the day; causing further stress and makingthem feel very vulnerable.
For older children who are not new to theschoolwhohavehadalongsummerbreakorhavehad timeoffbecauseof illness, returning toschoolcan be quite traumatic.
Possible triggers for school phobia include:• Being bullied• Starting school for the first time• Movingtoanewareaand/orchangingschools
and make new friends• Beingoff school fora longtimethroughillness
or because of a holiday• Bereavement (of a person or pet)• Feeling threatened by the arrival of a baby• Having a traumatic experience such as being
abused, being raped, having witnessed a tragicevent
• Problems at home such as a member of thefamily being very ill
• Problems at home such as marital rows, sepa-ration and divorce
• Violence in the home or any kind of abuse, ofthe child or of another parent
• Not having good friends (or any friends at all)• Being unpopular, being chosen last for teams
and feelingaphysical failure (ingamesandsport)• Feeling an academic failure• Feeling panic attacks when travelling to
school or while in school
What can parents do?• Have a physician examine the child to deter-
mine if he or she has a legitimate illness.• Listen to the child talk about school to detect
any clues as to why he or she does not want to go.• Talk to the child’s teacher, school psycholo-
gist, and/or school counsellor to share concerns.• Togetherdetermineapossiblecauseorcauses
for school avoidance.• Developanappropriateplanofaction tomodi-
fy the school and home environments to help thechild adjust to school.
CHILD MATTERSby Dr Crystal Watson
Dealing with a child’s school phobia
MANY children at some time in their schoolcareer are challenged by anxiety and fearaboutattendingschool. Schoolphobia, acom-plexandextreme formofanxietyaboutgoingto school (but not of the school itself as thename suggests), can have many causes andcan include related anxiety disorders such asagoraphobia (fear of being in public places)and selective mutism.
Symptoms include stomach-aches, nausea, fa-tigue, shaking, a racing heart and frequent tripsto the toilet.
Young children (up to the age of 7 or 8 years)with school phobia, experience separation anxie-ty and cannot easily contemplate being partedfrom their main carer, whereas older children (8plus) are more likely to have it take the form ofsocial phobia where they are anxious about theirperformanceinschool(suchasingamesorinhav-ing to read aloud or answer questions in class).
Children with anxieties about going to schoolmay suffer a panic attack if forced, which thenmakes themfearhavinganotherpanicattackandthere is an increasing spiral of worry with whichparents often do not know how to deal.
How does a school phobia start?Going to school for the first time is a period of
great anxiety for very young children. Many willbe separated from their parents for the first time,or will be separated all day for the first time. Thissudden change can make them anxious and theymaysuffer fromseparationanxiety.Theyarealsoprobably not used to having the entire day organ-ized for them and may be very tired by the end

Hy is onlangsas predikant by die Weis Memorial-kerk in Schauderville aangestel.
“’nMenshetmaargemengdegevoe-lens.
“Sodra jydink dat jou take afgehandel is, steek’n volgende paar take hul kop uit.”

RENOVATING your house can be a person-ally and financially rewarding undertak-ing, however, it is often fraught with frus-tration and stress.
Depending on your time, skill, inclinationand budget, you may like to DIY. Most DIY ren-ovators are actually DIWT (Do It With Trades). They manage the job, do the demolition, selectthe colour scheme, source fixtures and fit-tings, remove and install simple fittings andother simple jobs. However, unless theyare re-ally skilled, they contract the specialist tradesof bricklaying, carpentry, electrics, plumbingand tiling.
The following are some general tips thatmay help to make the process a little easierfor you.
PREPARATIONThe renovation will be dirty, dusty and
noisy. Keep neighbours on your side. This isan impossible task but do what you can by in-forming them of noise and inconvenience.
DESIGN AND STYLE1. Keep renovations in characterConsider the architectural integrity of your
building. If partially renovating, keep thestyle similar, or in character with the originalhouse (including the car port and garage.)
2. Don’t be excessively trendy or ambitious.• Fads fade, but a simple elegant style inneu-
tral colours (and subtle patterns) is timeless.• Don’t be too ambitious unless you are load-
ed.3. Use colour carefully and thoughtfully.• Collect samples and play with combina-
tions. Only use three colours in a room, two
if the room is small.• Light colours will not go out of fashion (or
fancy) as fast as strong colours. If you wantto use a strong colour, use it in small areas,as punctuation, so if necessary it can be easilychanged.
4. Period and older-style homes are hard tocost-control
• Best get a fixed price from a builder.5. Think how you can maximize space or the
sense of space.• No matter how much space you have, you
are likely to want more. Prioritize your spacerequirements for each room.
• The fewer the corners, lines and intersect-ing surfaces, the greater the visual flow andthe more pleasing and less expensive it will be.
• Try to keep as much of the floor visible byraising cupboards off it.
6. Give great consideration to the front exte-rior.
The exterior presents the first statementabout you and your home.
7. A higher ceiling looks better.Higher ceilings will cost a little more but
you will recoup that in resale value. Paintthem the lightest colour possible so they lookeven higher.
8. Consider the resale value of the propertyafter building.
Don’t over capitalize: i.e. spend more moneythat you would get back when you sell. Makesure the total value of your house plus newbuilding is not greater than the value of thesmartest house in the street.
9. Only renovate if the basic structure issound.

If you have to repair the basic structure itis likely that your project will be too expen-sive and you will overcapitalize. Either re-duce your plans significantly or sell and builda bigger house elsewhere.
10. Avoid small boxy rooms.Open-plan design costs less than a series of
rooms, creates a sense of space, and is betterfor ventilation.
ARCHITECTS AND PLANS• If your renovation is major, use an archi-
tect, and one that is experienced with the styleand level of the renovation you desire.
• View images or their previous work.• Talk to their previous clients.• Make sure you can read plans.
BUDGET AND RESALEHow much to spend?• How much to spend depends on how long
you want to keep the house. No point in spend-ing a huge amount if you are going to sell itwithin a couple of years.
• Set an affordable budget. Allow 10% forcontingencies.
• Break down costs, right to the fitting andfixtures- so you know where the money is go-ing.

BUYING a home that is in serious need ofrenovation is not for everyone and can beriddled with disaster.
However, forthosewhodohavetheknow-howand finances, it could be a very profitable andrewarding endeavour. Adrian Goslett, CEO ofRE/MAXofSA, says that thedifferencebetweena successful investment and a money trap liesin choosing the right fixer-upper home.
Goslett gives investors looking for the idealfixer-upper some pointers to consider:
1. Location: Aproperty’s locationwill largelydetermine its value once it has been fixed up andput on the market. The rule is to rather buy theworst house in the best suburb than the besthouse in a suburb which is not well located.
2. Composition: Generally the most sought-after type of home in a particular area is the oneto choose. If most of the buyers in an area arelooking for a three-bedroom home, then don’tbuy a two-bedroom one, or if sectional title or es-tate properties are the way to go, choose an in-vestment home where demand is strong.
3. Design: The general layout and design ofthe fixer-upper home needs to work. Movingwalls or rectifying a home that has been de-signed badly can be very expensive. The layoutof the home should flow and be practical.
4. Condition: It is important to consider theoverall condition of the home to decide whetherthe renovationsaremanageable or requiremajorchanges. If toomuchneeds tobedone tomake thehouse liveable, itmaybeworthwhile lookingelse-where.Aesthetic improvements are typically lesscostlyandtakelesstimethanothermodifications.

The Property Poser panel often re-ceives queries relating to the dis-covery of defects during thecourse of a property sale or short-ly thereafter.
This week a buyer tells us that thetransfer of his property is still inprogress but substantial leaks in theroof have been discovered.
When the reader reported it, theestate agent obtained quotations forthe repairs and a claim was institut-ed with the relevant insurer. It hassubsequently transpired that the in-surer will not cover the claim and italso appears that the seller will notaccept the quotations.
As we have mentioned before, inorder to find a solution, one has todistinguish between latent and pat-ent defects, says Charlotte Vermaakfrom Chas Everitt in Port Elizabeth.
“A patent defect is something thatis, or should be, identifiable upon in-spection of the property in a reasona-ble manner. Examples include wallcracks, broken windows, missingtiles and so on.”
A latent defect on the other handis not apparent during an ordinaryinspection by a reasonable buyer, says Vermaak. “It includes faults
that are not immediately obviousand are hidden from view, such asdampness behind a piece of furni-ture.”
Vermaak says it is important to re-member that the test is objective – ittakes into account what could havebeen seen during the original inspec-tion of the property, not only whatthe buyer did, in fact, see.
“A leaking roof is not somethingthat would necessarily be visible up-on inspection, unless there is evi-dence of watermarks on the ceil-ings.”
The reader has not indicatedwhether he had noticed any prob-lems or asked any pertinent ques-tions during the initial inspection, says Vermaak.
Rian du Toit from DTS Attorneysin PE says the question of whetheror not the seller was aware of the leakalso needs to be considered.
“Had be been aware and not dis-closed it, the purchaser may have aclaim varying from a reduction inthe purchase price to claiming for re-pairs. He could possibly even seek tocancel the contract, if he can showthat he would not have bought theproperty had he known about the de-fect.”
Du Toit says the Consumer Protec-tion Act is only helpful in such a situ-ation if the transaction falls withinthe provisions of the Act. “The Actis applicable to transactions that areconcluded in the ordinary course ofthe seller’s business.”
For example, a developer whobuilds and sells properties and en-ters into sale agreements as part ofhis daily business dealings would besubject to the Act, says Du Toit.
“Whereas property speculatorsfall under the same classification,once-off transactions, such as whenindividuals sell their homes, are notsubject to the Act.”
However, says Du Toit, the estateagent’s service is regulated by theAct even if the transaction is not, therefore the agent must ensure thathe or she markets a property respon-sibly by obtaining as much informa-tion as possible from the owner.

ONE of the more diverse and exciting Moun-tain Bike and Trail runs in the Eastern Capewill be taking place on Saturday 5th Maywithin the Alexandria Forest region.
The Woody Cape MTB and Trail Challenge isan exciting event for off-road athletes with foursimultaneously running events on offer. A tough55km Mountain Bike Event will be paired withan equally exciting but somewhat less strenuous18km version, whilst for the trail running enthu-siasts organisers Zports have mapped out a spec-tacular 18km trail run and 5km fun run version.
Alleventswill startandfinishat thebreathtak-ingElephants ofEden, anelephantSanctuary sit-uated in the heart of the Alexandria forest belt. The farm, owned by Ian and Lisette Withers ofthe Knysna Elephant Park, is home to over half-a-dozen African Elephants and other game.
“Weareveryexcitedaboutthiseventwhichwebelieve is one of the most diverse off-road eventsin theProvince,” saideventorganiser,MikeZoet-
mulderofZports.“Participantswillbechallengedwith a variety of terrains and gradients whichwill be offset by breathtaking views of the largestdune fields south of the equator, indigenous for-est, farm lands and a variety of game.”
Other than Elephants of Eden, participantswill also pass through neighbouring Kaba GamefarmwhichishometotheInternationalQuestAf-rica leadership school and a variety of game in-cluding giraffe and buffalo. From Kaba, partici-pants will tackle a 23km section of the Addo Ele-phant National Park, the third largest nationalpark in the country, where the Woody Cape re-gion consists of pristine indigenous forest.
“Due to the nature of the events on offer, wewill not be taking any late entries for the Moun-tainBikeand18kmTrailRuneventsafterouron-line entries close on Thursday May 3,” addedZoetmulder. “This is definitely not an experiencewhich off-roaders will want to miss as it’s notsomethingwhichthey’reabletodoontheirown.”
The event is held in association with the localAlexandriaNGKerk fetewhich takesplace inAl-exandria on the Saturday morning, with pro-ceeds of the event going towards the church’scommunity projects. Online entries till Thurs-day, May 3 are on www.woodycapemtb.co.za

THIS SPORTING LIFE BY
MICHAEL SHAFTO
REMEMBER Ou Frik? Who couldforget Frik du Preez, perhaps thefinest lock to wear a Springbok jer-sey? He had what people call pa-nache.
He was a great practical joker but
most prestigious successors, VictorMatfield, decides to heed Coach Hey-neke Meyer’s call to make a comebackto captain theBoks in the three-test se-ries against England in June is, ofcourse, strictly his business. By thetime you read this, the much-admiredBulls stalwartmayalreadyhavemadehis decision. The column hopes it’snot a “Yes” for that will only serve tounderline the sometimes invasivenegativity from which SA rugby suf-fers.
We have a new coach; our rugby ismoving into a new era: the four-yearlycycle that separates the 2011 WorldCup from the next Cup tournament inEngland in 2015. So why not startanew? For that’s when international-ly the true greatness of SA rugby willonce more be tested – and fresh bloodwill be needed. Matfield certainly willnot be around then to help the Spring-bok cause. On the other hand he couldby then be of great worth as a specialadviser as a lineout and general for-ward special adviser to team manage-ment in Meyer’s attempt to regain thecoveted Webb Ellis Cup.
What has Matfield to gain by thiscomeback? Precious little. There’s lit-tle enough time to ready himself forbattle, and there’s always the possibil-ity the move might not turn out well.He may not be the potent force he oncewas. In which case his legacy – andthat of the Springboks – will suffer.
Meyer, understandably, is anxious
to make an impressive start to hislong-awaited appointment as nationalcoach. But he needs to be positive;needs to look to the future, not back-wards into the past. He needs to showfaith in the young players aroundhim, eager to build for themselvesnew reputations of greatness. Theyare there, in abundance.
Go for it, Victor. If you have alreadymade up your mind and it is to try torevitalise the body and spirit thatmade you so great, all who care aboutSpringbok rugby will wish you well. They will watch in trepidation, hop-ing for the best. If you say – or havealready said – “Nay”, they will under-stand and believe you have chosenwisely.
Harry Lillis Crosby (aka Bing) onceput it in a nutshell when he suggestedthe best way to deal with a problem, was this: “You gotta accentuate thePositive, eliminate the Negative anddon’t mess with Mister In-between!”
Which is exactly what the Stormersdid when, with captain Schalk Burg-er, stand-in boss Jean de Villiers andpack leader Andries Bekker all miss-ing, theyput awaySuperRugbycham-pions, Reds, 23-13 in Brisbane. TheBulls almost let it slip in beatingBrumbies 36-34 in Brisbane at Loftus, allowing Jake White’s side to scorefive tries to two. In Durban theSharks, though brave in defeat, madetoo many errors in going down 12-18to the Chiefs.
The positive is always best
his victimsnever tookoffence be-cause hisjokes werealways car-ried out withsuch élanand good hu-mour. He al-so had tim-ing – on thefield and off –and above allelse he knewwhen it wastime to quit. This is whyhis image, both as play-er andprank-ster, lingersso brightly.
Whetheror not one ofDu Preez’s

TALKING F1 BY NATALIE LE CLUE
JUST 7 days ago the F1 world was in agree-ment that the Chinese GP was as majestic asit could probably get. Yet somehow the Bah-rain GP has managed to usurp that and deliv-erabattleroyalethat thrilledfromlap1to57.
The fourth round of the season always held thepromiseofthefirsttruereflectionof2012’speckingorder. For a better part of the weekend McLarenand Red Bull consistently ruled the timing sheetsand it appeared that it would be a straight fightbetween these two teams come Sunday.
Saturday qualifying proved the most closelycontested of the season so far with the top fourdrivers separated by a mere one-and-a-halftenths. It was Sebastian Vettel who struck a deci-siveblowwithhis first pole of the seasonand31stoverall. Lewis Hamilton and Mark Webberrounded out the top three while the potentialdark-horse, Raikkonen, opted to save his tyresand qualified eleventh overall. Daniel Ricciardocompleted his best-ever qualifying session with agreat sixth place on the grid.
For the first part of the season the McLaren ofJenson Button and Lewis Hamilton was the carwith the best pace and crucially the car thatseemed to work in all conditions. Red Bull, how-ever, had been steadily finding their way back tothe sharp-end. The most important thing to notefrom Red Bull’s perspective is that the RB8 wasalways there or there about on race pace. In 2012,it had just taken a while to unlock it.
Ifeveranyonecanmakeitcountfrompoleposi-tions it is Sebastian Vettel. The double worldchampion led easily away from the start as thepack squabbled behind him. The fast startingpair, Grosjean and Raikkonen, found themselvesrunning in fourth and seventh by the end of thefirst lap. It didn’t take long for the Lotus driversto unleash their pace as Grosjean made shortwork of first Webber and later Lewis Hamiltonto get into second on the track. Meanwhile Raik-konen scythed past every car in sight, including
Button,AlonsoandHamilton, toberunningthirdby lap twenty and by the first round of pitstopshad passed his teammate for second.
BythispointintheraceVettelhadcarvedaleadof six odd seconds but it was by no means a strollforthe2011champ.ArelentlessRaikkonengotthegap down to less than a second and had one goodlook into turn one for the race lead. It wasn’t tobe though, as Vettel maintained a three-secondgapuntil thechequeredflagdrop-ped. It isn’toftenthatVettel hasbeenpushedwhenhe’s foundhim-self leading a race and he certainly knew he wasin a race for everyone of the 57 laps.
Raikkonenwasbyfar thebestdriverof theday.Victory was well within his sights but it wasn’tto be. While many were left wondering why theLotus pitwall did not instruct Grosjean to allowhis teammate through, Raikkonen called thosewho criticised this decision to order. “There areno team orders and I tried to get past as quicklyas I could, but it’s not easy because we have twosimilar cars,” said Raikkonen. Good for the Finnfor not wanting any hand-outs; again it establish-es the true racer that Raikkonen is. After startingeleventh he brilliantly fought his way into a posi-tion to win the race and he did so using his megaspeed, ending second completely on merit.
As these twochamps ignited theSakhircircuit,it turnedintoadayto forget for theMcLarenboys.Problems in two of Hamilton’s three pitstopsdropped him out of contention early on. He didmanagetosalvagefourpointswithaneighthplacefinish. Jenson Button was fighting for fifth placewhen a left-rear puncture forced him into a latepitstopand just two laps laterhepulled theMaccainto the garage with a sick sounding engine.
Mr Consistency Mark Webber brought homeanother fourth place ahead of last week’s winnerRosberg and the two-stopping Paul Di Resta.Fernando Alonso again outperformed his equip-ment for seventh while Hamilton, Massa andSchumacher rounded out the points.
Red Bull’s first win of the season makes it fourdifferent winners in all four 2012 races and morecruciallyputsVettelintheleadofthedrivers’cham-pionship. Seems Red Bull have found their wings.

Hobie 16 Nationals bring more watersport fun to the BayPORT Elizabeth is steadily laying claim tothe title of the “Watersport Capital” as onemore event is added to a packed April 2012.
The Boardwalk Hobie 16 Nationals will jointhe Weekend Post Ocean Racing Series, SplashFestival and the Specsavers Ironman as pre-mier events, showcasing Port Elizabeth as anexcellent watersport venue.
The Boardwalk Hobie 16 Sailing Nationalswill be sailed off Hobie Beach, which wasnamed for the Hobie catamarans, from April27 to 30.
“Weare extremely excited tobe apart of this
water sport and foresee a fantastic weekend,”saidCliffordNgakane,GeneralManager of theBoardwalk Casino and Entertainment Centre.
Sailing teams consisting of a skipper andone crew member will sail in identical boatson courses laid just off of Shark Rock Pier, making for a close and exciting spectacle.
The Algoa Bay Yacht Club will be providingon and off water support during the Nationals. The racing will be conducted by Race Officer,Ronnie Baer, who will be supported by a crewthat cut its teeth on the Hobie 16 Worlds heldduring 2005 on Hobie Beach, Port Elizabeth.
That event received an unqualified thumbs-
up from international sailors for the perfectsailing conditions and friendly people.
The Hobie 16 is by far the largest multihullclass in the world with active racing in allparts of the world. The International SailingFederation (ISAF) have chosen to use the Ho-bie 16 in all ISAF World Games.
It is the multihull that is used in all Region-al, National and Continental Games where amultihull is to be sailed.
The Hobie 16 is also the current ISAF YouthWorld boat. This makes the Hobie 16 the logi-cal choice for an easy transition into the Olym-pics by many countries.
