November S.

A scries of minor business details occupied the Interfraternity Council at its regular weekly meeting last Tuesday evening. Definite decision that the coining Interfratem ity ball would be held Nov. 7 was the highlight o f the proceedings.

Plans for the ball are expected to be completed before the council meets next week. Randy Boeskool is in charge of arrangements. To date, it is definitely known that the affair w ill be held in the Union ballroom and that an out-of-town band* will furnish the music for dancing The council voted not to j i v e programs.

Members of the body examined a number of designs for a key drawn up by Jewelers, but tabled the matter of a definite choice. It is understood that another Jeweler will present some designs based on suggestions from the members of the council at the next meeting.

A committee war. appointed by the president, Bob O'Connor, to petition Dean Conrad for an extension of the attendance limit at radio parties. .

Ry Bredin reported that a substitute for soccer, proposed when it bfetame definitely known that that sport rould not be added to the Intramural schedule this year on account of lack of a playing field, was not possible. Lack of facilities for a suitable sport, for Intramural competition was given as the reason for the failure of the petition.

[points at all. especially for women?Points, it seems, is a sweet sound-

■ln* word, which by Its honey-coated .euphony draws a mase of ambitious and glory-hungry persons whose one; and only hope Is to get the appelatlon of "big shot' or B M. or B W. O C.

In many cases that is the one and primary objective of the person who goes jiu t for some sort of position. Especially is this true of co-eds.

Many co-eds don't, as a rule. With j the present activity point system.; get into extra-curricular activities; for the sake of the activity itself.; Instead they make sure of the > number of points they Will *?et out; of a certain position and then set { their caps for the job.

Many of them attain posts which ( are not interesting to them from the standpoint ot the work itself but; from the fact that it is getting themj a eerain number of aciviy poins.j They then set out to parade th e ir. honorable Job to the gaze of the rumpus in general Sooil they are designated at influential B W O. C.'s. Their pride and vanity is satisfied. They are in the campus, eye. Their innate egotism is satiated. They are admired, respected/ and feared.

But their job. Is it justified’ , Chances are it is slighted. The coed is hypocritical. She hftdh’t fu lfilled her obligations. She has gotten her points, but little else.

This, perhaps, is a trifle farfetched it is true, nevertheless.

Without activity points, co-eds would go out for whatever interested them There wouldn 1 be any inerntiv* for the position other than the activity itself This would mean that more interest would be shown

/by eo-eds toward their work.Cornell university and the Uni

versity of Wisconsin have dispensed 1 with, all point systems gfid have in- j augurated a major " tinrl minor! activity scheme whereby no co-ed can participate 111 more tlian a certain amount of outside work. The system in the two schools has been praised highly Other universities and colleges are beginning lo utilize the idea There is 110 reason why it eouldn t be started at Michigan State

There are a number ot eomjietent •

women students on this campus, u should be an easy matter for them to work out sn Idea which would do sway with activity points. The present condition on the campus is far from ideal. There Is a remedy. Someone should do something about it.

A special meeting o f Fanhellentc I w a s held in the private dining room in the Union building Thursday evening to discuss the suggestion made by National Panhellen ic' in reference to delegates who will represent Michigan State at the National Panhellenic conference. The national organization suggested that the acting president represent the local group.

It was decided that Dorothy Wickstrom. president, will attend the convention which is to be held in St. Louis. Missouri. October 29. 30 and 31. All representatives are to send their rushing expenses and criticisms into Dean Conrad’s office as soon as possible.. Two suggestions were made to the

representatives to discuss with the individual chapters. One was that a permanent record of all sorority members and pledges be kept in Dean Conrad's office and that all averages o f pledges should be sent in to the Dean’s office the beginning of winter term so that a check may be made on all initiates.
