LHP Derek Holland takes the mound for the White Sox, who are a season-high 21 games under .500. The Sox went 0-2 vs. the Cubs to open the homestand following this weekend series vs. the Indians, the White Sox will conclude the homestand with three games vs. Toronto (7/31-8/2). The White Sox went 1-4 on their last trip at Kansas City (0-3) and Wrigley Field (1-1) and 0-5 on their last homestand vs. Seattle (0-3) and Los Angeles-NL (0-2) from 7/14-19. Chicago is on pace to win 64 games, their fewest since 2013 (63-99), owns the worst record in the AL and third-worst in MLB.</p><p>TONIGHT'S STORYLINES Chicago's seven-game home losing streak is its longest since 7/30-8/12/11 (also seven) the last time the club lost eight-plus straight at Guaranteed Rate Field was 5/19-6/3/89 (11). The White Sox are 10-8 vs. the Indians since 8/17/16 by comparison, Chicago was 8-15 in the previous 22 contests. The Sox are 11-86 (.128) with RISP in the last 13 games. Derek Holland is 1-5 with a 9.15 ERA (42 ER/41.1 IP), 1.89 WHIP and .341 opponents average over his last nine starts. Jos Abreu is hitting .342/.405/.605 with four doubles, two homers, fi ve RBI and fi ve multihit eff orts in the last 10 games. Chicago is trying to avoid its worst July in club history (9-23, .281 in 1950) its fewest July wins came in 2013 (8-18).</p><p>LAST NIGHT'S RECAP Jon Lester and two relievers limited the White Sox to fi ve hits, as the Cubs reclaimed the Crosstown Cup with a 6-3 win. The Sox took an early 1-0 lead on Willy Garca's solo home run in the third but the Cubs answered with four runs in the fourth, one in the fi fth and one in the sixth. Jos Abreu drove in two of the White Sox three runs with a pair of solo homers, his eighth career multihomer eff ort. Mike Pelfrey (5 ER/5.0 IP; 2 HR) suff ered his eighth loss Aaron Bummer (1 ER/1.0 IP) made his MLB debut, striking out Anthony Rizzo to lead off the eighth for his fi rst strikeout. The Sox did not record an at-bat with RISP.</p><p>TAMING THE TRIBE Derek Holland is 7-1 with a 2.27 ERA (17 ER/67.1 IP) and .231 opp. average in 11 career starts (nine QS) vs. Cleveland. He has allowed two runs or less nine times (one or less six times) Holland has won his last four starts, recording a 1.13 ERA (3 ER/24.0 IP), 0.96 WHIP and .171 opponents average.</p><p>MUSICAL LOCKERS The White Sox 25-man roster includes 11 players who were active on Opening Day a breakdown of the Sox OD roster.ACTIVE: Jos Abreu, Tim Anderson, Melky Cabrera, Matt Davidson, </p><p>Miguel Gonzlez, Derek Holland, Omar Narvez, Jake Petricka, Tyler Saladino, Yolmer Snchez and James Shields.</p><p>DISABLED LIST: Dylan Covey, Avisal Garca, Leury Garca, Nate Jones, Zach Putnam and Geovany Soto.</p><p>DFA/OPTIONED: Cody Asche, Jacob May and Michael Ynoa.TRADED: Todd Frazier, Dan Jennings, Jos Quintana, David Rob-</p><p>ertson and Anthony Swarzak.</p><p>SOUTHPAW SUCCESS The Sox are hitting .279/.334/.435 vs. left-handers in 2017 the .279 average is tied for the fourth-best in MLB this season. Avisal Garca (3rd, .409) and Jos Abreu (9th, .370) rank among the major-league leaders in average vs. left-handers. The White Sox are 13-16 vs. left-handed starters this year.</p><p>SEARCHING FOR QUALITY Chicago's starting rotation owns a 5.79 ERA (180 ER/280.0 IP) over the last 57 games, making just 12 quality starts. Miguel Gonzlez (two QS) is the only Sox pitcher to make a quality start over the last 16 games Gonzlez also is the only Sox starter to work 7.0-plus IP in a start in the last 32 contests. The White Sox rank 30th in MLB with 31 QS in 2017. The Sox own 63 starts of 5.2 IP or less this season, the third-most in MLB behind Miami (66) and Cincinnati (64) their nine starts of 7.0-plus IP are tied with Miami for the fewest in MLB.</p><p>SWEET HOME CHICAGO The White Sox are currently in a stretch of playing 21 of 28 games in Chicago from 7/14-8/13 in addition to 19 games at Guaranteed Rate Field, the Sox played two games at the Cubs. The only remaining road games are from 8/3-6 at Boston. Chicago's 44 home games (19-25) are the fewest in MLB.</p><p>WHITE SOX VS. CLEVELAND INDIANS The White Sox are 4-5 vs. the Indians this season, going 1-2 at Guaranteed Rate Field and 3-3 at Progressive Field the clubs have alternated wins and losses over the last fi ve games. The Sox are hitting .242/.298/.323 with three homers, own a 3.50 ERA (31 ER/79.2 IP) and have been outscored, 33-29. The White Sox are 9-8 over the last 17 games dating back to 8/17/16 after losing seven straight contests from 5/23-8/16/16. Chicago has lost three of the last four season series since 2013 the lone victory came in 2015 (10-9). The White Sox lead the all-time series, 1,078-1,052 they are 568-493 at home (111-105 at Guaranteed Rate Field) and 510-569 on the road (95-101 at Progressive Field).</p><p>LOOKING FOR CENTRAL COMMANDThe White Sox are 19-23 vs. the American League Central division this season (9-8 in Chicago) after going 32-44 in 2016.Chicago has lost 10 of its last 12 games vs. the AL Central and has been outscored, 78-50, during that span.White Sox starters own a 4.25 ERA (107 ER/226.0 IP) with 15 quality starts and 37 home runs allowed this season Chicago has not won consecutive division games since 5/26-27 vs. DET.The Sox have gone 277-357 vs. the AL Central since 2009, with their only winning record coming in 2012 (37-35).</p><p>REVOLVING RELIEF DOOR Since the All-Star break, the White Sox have traded relievers Dan Jennings (T.B.), Tommy Kahnle (NYY), Anthony Swarzak (MIL) and David Robertson (NYY) Nate Jones (elbow sur-gery) and Zach Putnam (Tommy John surgery) are out for 2017. Five of the pitchers were on the Sox Opening Day roster. Relievers have worked 2.1-plus IP in 32 of the last 33 games (4.63 ERA; 63 ER/ 122.1 IP), including 3.0-plus IP 26 times.</p><p>LONGBALL LOGISTICS Matt Davidson leads the White Sox and ranks fourth among major-league rookies with 19 home runs this season. He is on pace to hit 31 home runs, which would mark the third-most by a Sox rookie in a single season behind Jos Abreu (36 in 2014) and Ron Kittle (35 in 1983). Abreu has hit 109 career HRs, tied with Alexei Ramrez for 18th place in club history Greg Walker ranks 17th with 113.</p><p>PITO POWER Jos Abreu is trying to join Al Simmons (11), Albert Pujols (10), Ted Williams (8) and Joe DiMaggio (7) as the only players ever to record 100-plus RBI in each of his fi rst four seasons. Abreu leads Chicago with 63 RBI and is on pace to fi nish with 103 RBI this season he has been hit by a pitch 51 times since 2014, the second-most in the AL and fi fth-most in MLB.</p><p>STRENGTH IN NUMBERS Following last week's trade with the Yankees, the White Sox currently have eight of the Top 100 prospects in baseball accord-ing to MLB.com all eight players are ranked in the Top 68. The eight Top 100 players refl ect MLB.com's midseason update according to Baseball America's 2017 midseason prospect rankings, the Sox own eight of the Top 100 players.</p><p>POWERFUL PROSPECT PIPELINE Since December 2016, Chicago has traded Adam Eaton (WSH), Todd Frazier (NYY), Dan Jennings (T.B.) Tommy Kahn-le (NYY), Jos Quintana (Cubs), David Robertson (NYY), Chris Sale (BOS) and Anthony Swarzak (MIL) to acquire 17 players, including eight of the Top 14 prospects according to MLB.com. In addition, the White Sox signed free agent OF Luis Robert on 5/27, drafted C Zack Collins, RHP Zack Burdi and RHP Alec Hansen in 2016 and drafted 3B Jake Burger in 2017.
