1 TIMOTHY 2:8-15

The problem with this text.

As men & women, we tend to focus on the rules of God

rather than the freedom.

We would rather be religious than be redeemed.

In this text, rather than focusing on what women

should not wear, let’s focus on what they should.

Women should not wear braided hair, gold,

pearls or expensive clothing.

Women should wear modesty, self-control, and what

is proper for Godly women.

It is indeed our clothes that matter…as long as we

are clothed in His riches, and not our own.

The next two verses are the favorite verses of many men.

They are also some of the most divisive.

What does this look like in the local church?

Male elders. Women leading women. Complementarianism.

The biggest complaint some have about this verse

is its restriction on women.

Let me ask you a question: are verses 11 and 12

more restrictive on women…

Or on men?

If women are not to be teaching & leading the Church,

then who should be?

Men.

The problem with the American Church today, even in the Bay Area, is that men

refuse to step up & lead.

This problem has always existed.

GENESIS 2-3

Eve was created as a helper for man’s work.

Naked Gardening.

Who does the serpent come after?

Eve.

Is this what God actually instructed?

No.

Did Eve hear the word from God?

Adam is a bad Bible teacher.

Adam is not only a bad Bible teacher,

he’s a coward.

Men are to lead by standing strong, protecting

the women in our lives meant to help us.

Who does God call to?

Adam. The man.

Men: it may not be your fault, but it

is your responsibility.

It is your job to protect, love, and serve the

women of your home.

It is your job to protect, love, and serve the

women of Hillside Church.

It is your job to protect, love, and serve the women of San Jose.

Godly Men Protect, Love, and Serve Women.

Sometimes that means repenting to them.

Sometimes that means opening your mouth not to

teach, but to apologize.

Sometimes that means opening your mouth not to teach, but to compliment.

Most of the time it requires recognizing a woman’s special

role in the work of Christ.
