    How

HASSLE-FREE PCUninstall Unwanted Apps in Windows 8IF YOU'RE NEW to Windows

8, you probably find certainaspects of it confusing.

For example, if you're usingthe modern Start screen, you've undoubtedlyinstalledsome apps. But how do youremove an app? It's no t

    l R I c K BR o ID A immediately obvious. If youpull up th e charm bar and

ta p Settings, you'll find no help. If you tap th e 'ChangePC settings' link, you'll ge t no uninstaller there either.Well, there's always good old Control Panel, right?

Wrong:When you ge t there, you'll see that apps aren't listed . Guess they' re not "programs" in the traditional sense. As it turns out, if you're operat ing Windows 8 with a

mouse, it's a snap to uninstall an app:just mouse over its tile, right-click, andchoose Uninstall from th e options toolbarat th e bottom of th e screen.

If you're using a touchscreen, you haveno right-click option. In this case, th eprocess requires a litt le dance: Tap andhold a tile, drag it down slightly, andrelease it. You 'll see acheckmark on the tile,as well as th e toolbardown below.Tap Unin-stall to remove the app.In fact, if you've ever tried arranging

tiles by tapping and dragging, you know that it doesn'twork th e "normal" way:You have to do that little downdrag before moving a tile. It's no t hard, it's just unintuitive.Add YouTube to Your Roku BoxThe newly released Roku 3 set-top box comes completewith a faster processor, dual-band Wi-Fi, and a headphone jack in th e remote. Still missing : YouTube.

It's borderline crazy that a box capable of streamingevery video service you 've ever heard of-and plenty youhaven't-doesn't support YouTube. You can ge t aroundthat, though, by installing the VideoBuzz channel, oneof th e few functional YouTube players for Roku boxes.

Click through to the channel page, and look fo r th eChannel Add link near th e top. Click VideoBuzz, then Yes,AddChannel . (You'll need to be signed in to your Roku

Plus: Enjoy YouTube on a Roku box, an dadd recovery info to your Android phone.account on th e Web.) On your Roku box, you should findth e newly added VideoBuzz. In my quick tests with anolder Roku, VideoBuzz worked like a champ.Improve Your Chances of Recovering Your PhonePassword-protecting your smartphone makes sense, asit prevents unauthorized usersfrom accessing your data.

But it can also work against you. Suppose you lose yourphone: A Good Samaritan who finds it and wants toreturn it won't be able to do th e necessary detectivework. Fortunately, Android 4.0 supports lock-screen con-

tact information, which will display a message of yourchoosing even on a passcode-protected device.

    1. On your Android phone, head to Settings, then look foran entry called Lock Screen. {I found this under th e Personal section on my Samsung Galaxy S Ill; on your phone itmight be underSecurity or somewhere similar.)

2.Tap Lock Screen Owner Information.3. In the field , enter a message that might help someone

return th e phone to you-your email address or office phonenumber, for example. You could se t up a Google Voice number solely for emergency recovery purposes, in case youdon't want your personal number visible on your lock screen.

    4. Make sure that Show owner info on lock screen ischecked, and then tap OK.
