No matter if we are fewer today, perhaps our cause of defending agroecology, promoting food sovereignty & challenging peasants rights violations is so much bigger, we have to learn and support each other & march ahead amidst of all the challenges

- Briefing with peasants

“Seed Act(amendment) Bill, 2014

Since the start of our PCSC initiative from

January, 2014, based on volunteer actions,

we have tried every possible effort to maximize

our program at gross root level as well as

strengthen relations with likeminded for the

support of our initiatives of engaging with

peasant communities, disseminating issue

based information through popular and

understandable publications and networking

with allies for the cause of agrarian justice.

In 2015, with the support of XminY,

Solidarity Fund, Netherland, we have

started the program of mass mobilization

against Seed Act (amendment) Bill – 2014

through our campaign Promote Food

Sovereignty – Resist Seed Piracy in five

districts of North Sindh as well as organized

the events of peasants’ protests, rallies and

demonstrations against Seed Act Law.

In addition to this, we also had carried out

research based position paper against Seed

Act Law with a couple of wall poster and flyer

material for the understanding of peasant

communities, the other position paper was

published on corporate land grab with the

support of GRAIN. Moreover, campaigning

against Climate Crisis, PCSC also joined the

CSOs network against Global Alliance for

Climate Smart Agriculture (GACSA).

Believing in power of unity, since our start we

have used to write our membership request to

various likeminded networks and movements,

and obviously this would take time because of

procedural restrictions, in spite of this, the

support of various local and international

individuals, friends as well as GRIAN and

XminY, Netherland was quite encouraging in

2015.

Dear Friend, among us everyone knows very

well that resisting neoliberals’ corporate

globalization in an environment of pushing their

vibrant funding for the promotion of false

solutions such as, CLIMATE SMART

AGRICULTRE, their counterfeiting strategies

during COP21 at Paris, TiSA or TTIP is highly

challenging for organizations like PCSC in terms

of meager resources and limited opportunities of

capacity building as well as lesser consideration

of providing space in networking/ alliance

platforms.

Like previous year again we stress that there is

dire need of involvement of anti corporate

support in Pakistan, & should be maximum

support of building peoples movements and

encouragements of new initiators working

towards this end. Your involvement in Pakistan

by strengthen people’s movement to keep

masses more informed about the changes in

policies at local, regional and international level

would enable people for resistance that could

pressurize governments to come-up with pro-

people policies.

Irshad Soomro Executive Director

Founded on January, 2014 as small nonprofit research and advocacy organization,

registered under Societies Act 1860 at Sukkur (Sindh) Pakistan by a group of

progressive social activists, Peoples Common Struggle Center (PCSC) PCSC

envisions to support small peasantry & working class societies and movements in

order to address the root causes of social, economic, political & agroecolgical issues

driven by WTO, Corporate- Globalization & Neo-liberal policies.

PCSC strives to strengthen the capacity of small and landless peasantries, fisher folks,

informal and formal laborers, women, children, youth, differently able persons,

minorities and indigenous groups of society and work around the areas of: a) Land,

Water & Food Sovereignty, b) Climate Justice & Corporate

Accountability c) Universal Human Rights, Social Protections & Gender Justice.

We also promote local, regional, and international peace, cooperation and solidarity

for the attainment of peaceful progress rejecting all the neo-liberal tactics

of (privatization, militarization, deregulization & trade liberalizations) & stand for the

reinforcement of laws and polices backed by maximum resources based on just, fair

and equitable distribution for less advantaged groups of society, without any

discrimination of race & religion.

Page 6: Pcsc annual report 2015 (1)

Document and disseminate progressive research & analysis in

a popular and understandable manner, focusing on social

injustices, economic disparities, ecological degradations & climate

change

Build the capacity of people to hold power

accumulators accountable about their socio-economic & political rights, enabling them to actively participate in a process of decision &

policy making for achieving and exercising those rights

Organize, network & collaborate with peoples & movements for the better

understanding of the impacts of WTO,

Globalization, Corporate Control and Neoliberal policies at the cost of

people’s peace & sustainable development at

local, national and international level

Indeed PCSC do not have

any remarkable success in

the year of 2015, because of

its limited sources & initial

engagements process

perhaps we have quite tried

to follow our line of

objectives through out

the process

Right to Land, water and food is one of the core program of PCSC interventions and this was as important as critical to highlight the issues of corporate as well feudal control over the land water and food resources. Towards this end, PCSC has carried out its research based position paper “Corporate Land Grab: A neoliberal menace in Pakistan” this should be worth mentioning that this position papers is published on GRAINs’ sister site farmlandgrab.org and could be found at http://farmlandgrab.org/post/view/24485-corporate-land-grab-a-neoliberal-menace-in-pakistan or https://pcsc4org.wordpress.com/2015/02/03/corporate-land-grab-a-neoliberal-menace-in-pakistan/

Beside this, the other position paper written by PCSC was to expose the

“Corporate Conspiracies to Control over the Seed the Seed Heritage” through the amendment in country “Seed Act law”. The paper aims to critique on “Seed Act amendment Bill – 2014”, its impacts on small and landless farmers, the international political context of WTOs TRIPS, CBD, UPOV and the level of resistance in Pakistan against such bill. We are thankful to XminY Netherland Solidarity Fund for the financial support of this study as well as GRAIN for writing forward for this paper. The publication can be found at https://pcsc4org.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/corporate-conspiracy-to-control-over-seed-heritage.pdf

For the purpose of community

mobilization and developing

peasants basic understanding

towards the immediate policy

issues, Peoples Common

Struggle Center (PCSC) also

published the IEC material

highlighting the impacts of

Seed Act (amendment) Bill –

2014. The material was

disseminated during the

peasants mobilization

campaigns “Promote food sovereignty – Resist Seed

Piracy” The IEC material was based on pictorial & narrative

information on presentation,

wall posters and flyers.
