Dear Editor:
We are very happy to see the
improvements that have been made
in the park since our last visit. As we were driving in
from Dolliver Street, the changes were immediately
noticeable. The office plus the driveway looked total-
ly different. The driveway and office are being
worked on for all of us to make it easier and quicker
to check-in. After driving hours to get to Pismo
Creek, we like an inviting location. Both of us can’t
wait until the work is completed.
As my husband and I walked the park, it was
terrific to see the nice lawn with the flower beds full
of flowers next to the clubhouse. Terrific also is the
redecorated clubhouse. My husband and friends en-
joyed the new sofas while they were watching the
European Soccer League games.
Thank you very much for making our stay at
the park so much more enjoyable. Please keep up the
good job.

As Roy and I complete our month of
hosting we leave with mixed (0612)
emotions. First, we are saddened for
the loss of longtime member Russell
Lowell—our love goes out to his
wife Helen. Also, we will keep in
prayer the many members that are
enduring health problems.
We really enjoyed being here
and seeing so many friends and
meeting so many new members.
Remember this is our Park and the
clubhouse and activities are for all.
Our groups that paid us a visit
were wonderful. I said paid because
as a result of their visits we are
having the best winter financially
in years.
We want to thank Inger, Tricia,
Cindy (she just started), Steve,
Augusto, Jose and Vicki and her
board for such a lovely Park. All the
improvements made this winter were
much needed. We should all be proud
of our Park and take care of it.
Roy and I plan on hosting again
in August...hope to see you then.

In Case You Were Wondering:
Members can cook in the Clubhouse for themselves and their guests, however, if you prefer to use a caterer, they must be licensed and bonded. Please contact the office for a list of caterers in the area.
The cost of fixing the roads has been at NO COST to the members.
When deciding how to comply with the new policy of providing proof of relationship please know that there are several ways to legally connect the dots: 1) A birth certificate, which does not need to remain in the files but must be visually verified by our office staff, 2) The declaration page of a will or trust that declares the name of the trust, trustees and the children’s names (not necessarily the beneficiaries names) and 3) A statement notarized declaring your children’s names 4) Adoption papers if necessary.

Fellow Members:
March Madness is in the air and nowhere is that more
obvious than in our R.V. park. The Road Project, Phase I has
begun and if you have been in the park you are already aware of
the massive change taking place as one enters the resort. If you
haven’t been able to make the trip to Pismo Beach, take a good
look at the photographs in the newsletter this month. It will give
you a much better idea of how the Road Project is progressing.
Boards of Director Members and Emeritus volunteers
have worked countless hours to prepare for this big event. The
corporation had to obtain permits from both the City of Pismo
Beach, and California Department of Transportation to begin the
work in the park. To get the permits, further drawings from a
Civil Engineer were required in order to provide the proper plans
to these agencies. Once all of the preliminaries were finished,
the real work began. The best bid for the demolition of the
existing roadway was Marty Ormonde. Mr. Ormonde and his
crew came in and worked from February 22 through March 1, to
get the roadway ready for the cement crew. Along with the
demolition and haul off of the existing roadway, Ormonde’s
crews also had to prepare for the proper grade to the roads in
order to have appropriate drainage in the park. It was discovered
that there was no grade at all in the front of the park, and
therefore a grade had to be established. All the assignments
became monumental given the fact that crews had to truck all the
used asphalt and cement out of the park and then replace an
appropriate base for the cement to top. Eight inches of base rock
was placed over the clay ground. Ormonde was also charged
with moving the fire hydrant located at the front of the park
further north. This move was a necessity in order to open up
more space to allow the radius for the right turns to be expanded.
The demolition company noted that the roadway and cement
work at the front of the resort, was “one of the worst jobs they
had ever removed,” and further commented that they were
amazed the roadway had held up as well as it had given the
weight of the rigs that drive on it and the length of time it had
been used. It also became apparent during the first removal of
existing asphalt and cement that a walkway needed to be
included in the project. With all the activity at the front of the
park, pedestrians were unable to safely enter or exit the property.
Immediately Gary Dilley got to work with the contractors to
include a separate walkway for pedestrians entering and exiting
in the park.
When it comes to moving fire hydrants, it is not a “walk
in the park.” After several visits from the City of Pismo, mem-
bers of Cal Fire, and Gary Dilley, our project director, there was
agreement about where the hydrant would be relocated and what
would be required to make the move. Subsequently, a number of
digging dirt days took place, shoring up the walls because of the
depth involved, and Ormonde’s crews got to the bottom of the
pipes. Once again, because of poor workmanship when the park
was built, removal of the fire hydrant and replacement of parts
took much more time and effort than anyone expected. It took
three full days for Ormonde’s crew to finish the digging work
and start plumbing the new hydrant and get it moved. There was
a huge sigh of relief by everyone involved when the 8-foot deep
hole was finally covered over. Even though all safety
precautions were taken by the crew, there was still a monumental
hole at the entrance to the park and worries that a “Sidewalk
Superintendent” might lose their balance and see the hole up
close and personally was a constant concern.
In the midst of all the demolition work, the park was
paid a visit by a State of California Inspector. It seems he was
inspecting work being performed across the street at Pismo Coast
Village and just happened to notice all the construction trucks at
our location. He spoke with Gary Dilley about the ramp to the
office and indicated that the ramp needed to have a minimum of
8% slope from the landing at the doorway down to the roadway.
This discovery caused the park to extend the ramp farther out
into the sidewalk at the base of the office. After working through
various ideas to accommodate the requirements of the State, it
was decided to change the landing and move the walkway around
at the base of the ramp. The changes caused the ramp to be more
costly, but in the end it will pass inspection with the State of
California and will be more user-friendly for park members as
well as adhere to ADA, American’s With Disability Act,
regulations. Now two people can pass each other on the ramp
without someone backing down and it also allows easy access to
wheelchairs and scooters.
On Thursday, March 1, the cement crews got to work.
It had been decided to work on the roadway closest to the office
and work out toward Dolliver Street first. The work on the office
side of the street included six inches of cement with steel
reinforcement to meet required standards set by the California
Department of Transportation. When the south side of the
roadway was finished, work was concentrated on the north side
of the area. There was a great deal of cement required to pour
the area on the north side of the roadway where members
regularly hook up tow cars or use that space to pull over while
visiting in the office. Cement crews belonging to Advanced
Pools, the lowest bidder for the job, worked every day except
Sunday preparing the cement forms and pouring cement. A new
stamped concrete ramp was built on the front of the office and
the new ramp is well over five feet wide. Johnny Cotta, Jr. was
awarded the job of replacing the railing on the office to match
what he had previously prepared for the clubhouse area.
Additionally, Howard Boos along with Steve and his staff began
preparing every area of the new concrete for lighting and
electrical outlets. Preparing for the electrical needs meant
digging deep trenches to put in PVC pipe for wires to be pulled
across the roadway for needs on both sides of the park. Howard
has installed beautiful lighting along the wall of the office and
the ramp to light the way for visitors who arrive after dark. Steve
will prepare all the flower beds in the front of the park with
appropriate lighting and landscaping as the project progresses
toward completion.
Work on the center of the roadway will resume on the
19th of March. Ormonde’s crews will be here to demolish the

center roadway in the park and remove all the asphalt and cement
remaining. Advance Pools will then return and build the forms
and finish pouring the cement to complete Phase I of the Road
Project. The project thus far has run very smoothly and appears
to be a great success. A sincere thank you to so many of the
members who have written letters, sent emails and phone calls to
the office commenting on how pleased they are about the road
upgrade. It is extremely encouraging to hear the positive com-
ments many of you have shared. In fact, great appreciation for
members entering and leaving the park is due. The office staff
has been notifying members to approach from the south during
the road construction. For the most part, members have been
very cooperative in making the effort to make their
approach from the south. That will remain the order of the day
for the next few weeks. It will take approximately two weeks for
the cement to cure enough to bear the weight of the big rigs that
frequent the park. Therefore, nothing less than two weeks will
suffice to allow for the cement to cure. When the project is near
finished, limit lines, fog lines and stop lines will be painted on
the new cement. A regular stop sign will be installed on the
north side of the exit. Many thanks to Jacob Cain, one of our
members, for his assistance in getting the proper signage and
road painting accomplished.
In the midst of the curing time for the first pour of
cement, we had a major demolition take place at the front of the
resort. A motorhome came into the park from the North and
turned too tight for the entrance. The motorhome struck the
Pismo Creek sign at the front of the resort and tore the south side
of the pedestal off and the stones collapsed. After close
investigation it became apparent that the pedestal could not be
repaired due to the constant plague of “dry rot” which had struck
our sign too. So the entire pedestal was torn down and plans are
afoot to replace our front signage with something more
appropriate to fit the new opening.
Just as a reminder, if you have reservations for the park
anytime during the remainder of March, and you have not heard
from the Office staff, please call and find out the latest update on
the roads before trying to enter the park. There have been a few
instances when members have had to wait outside the park to
allow time for the construction trucks to clear the construction
area before entering. Your continued cooperation is greatly
appreciated.
All costs for the Road Project thus far were paid for out
of funds collected from the sale of new memberships. Where
does the corporation go from here? Do we continue the roads
project toward the Clubhouse? These questions will be answered
in the next few weeks, as the corporation continues to sell
memberships and continues to allocate funding appropriately
toward the project. Do you have suggestions or thoughts about
the road project? Be assured your thoughts and suggestions will
be heard and discussed. So if you have ideas or comments you
want communicated to your Board, please call, write or email the
office. The Board promises to listen to all your suggestions
carefully and with sincere consideration.
Cottages 51, 50 and 49 have been completed and are
awaiting guests. Cottages 48 and 47 should be completed and
ready for guests with all the upgrades by April 1. Next time you
are in the park and would like to see one of the cottages, ask the
office staff if you may have a peek. It is the hope of park staff to
have everything looking ship shape by the Easter Break. And
while I am on the subject of Easter Break, please be advised that
the park is full during the first two weeks in April. Park usage is
increasing because the members are enjoying the facilities more
often than in the past few years. In fact, the corporation has
made a profit during the month of January and February of this
year. That fact represents the first time the corporation has made
a profit during the winter months in recent history. Thank you all
for recognizing the need to use your membership and continuing
to contribute to the efficiency and financial soundness of the
park.
A special thank you to Bruce Barnett, who has agreed to
serve as an Emeritus Volunteer to work with Mark Bunch, our
Treasurer, to oversee the ongoing effort to ensure the financial
picture of the park remains in the black and to assure that our
accounting methods are always done properly. Also thanks to
each of the memberships who have forwarded proof of parent/
child relationship to be verified in their membership file. Your
cooperation is so appreciated. We also have 6 members who
have volunteered to serve on the Rules Committee. Those mem-
bers are: Bill Schmall, Joe Faria, Larry Marshall, Lou Ann
Hand, Bob DeSherlia, and Marilyn Ferdolage. Sue Hernandez
will chair this committee, and Inger Hudson will serve as the
staff assistant. Thanks to each of these members for stepping up
to the plate and serving their park in a very significant way.
It is my hope that this message finds you and your loved
ones happy, and doing the things that you most enjoy in life.
And, best wishes for a Happy and Blessed Easter!

March — Road Project Phase I Gets Underway
Thanks to all the members who had to come to the office through the Back Door until they finished the new ramp to the office. The old one had rotted and was not nearly wide enough. The correct amount of fall was created by the
new Valley Gutter so that rainwater will run right off into the street.
Nine (9) inches of rock was laid before six (6) inches of cement was poured.
A new walkway was created so that pedestrians and vehicles won’t be mixing it up anymore.

Changing the front entrance sign wasn’t an intended part of the project...but when it was struck by a motorhome entering the Park, we saw that it was also rotten and needed to be replaced.
The new lettering wasn’t in when this went to print so either come by and see for yourself or stay tuned for the next newsletter...

step on the roads at the entrance of the park. The overhead
is higher due to the ramp having to be at an 8% grade. It
was required that the ramp be wider, but it is closer to the
building now so it does not extend out any further than the
old ramp.
A $2,500.00 bond was required to move the fire
hydrant which will be returned to PCRV. It took a lot of
extra work.
$88,000.00 was allocated for the first phase of the
road project. There is $37,352.00 left. Included in this
amount are the cost of the railings, trash enclosure and
$1,500.00 to patch the edges of the center section to keep
the rain out.
It will take two (2) days for demolition and base and
three (3) days for the concrete. Caltrans is requiring stop
signs and lines.
There will be a new pedestrian walkway on the north
side of the sign.
A rough estimate is that if the next phase, from the
office to the “Y”, is completed in concrete, it will cost
more than $50,000.00; less if completed in asphalt. The
decision between concrete and asphalt has not been made.
This phase will need to wait until next fall/winter.
We need to sell ten (10) more memberships to fund
this phase.
Treasurer’s Report Review:
Mark gave a brief overview of the financial reports.
Rules Committee Update:
Susan reported that the six committee members are
Bob DeSherlia, Joe Faria, Marilyn Ferdolage, Lou Ann
Hand, Larry Marshall and Bill Schmall. Instructions, a
letter from me, a copy of the current rules and a Change
Recommendation Form was sent to all committee
members. They have been asked to review the rules, put
their change recommendations on the form and e-mail it to
Inger and myself by March 30th. They will then be
compiled in chronological order and sent to all of them to
look over. The committee will meet at the park on May 9th
to go over the recommendations and vote. Those on the
committee that cannot attend the meeting in person will be
included through a telephone conference call.
Memo:
Vicki advised the Board that she had received an e-mail
from a member regarding space availability.
The park usage and revenue are up which indicates that
more spaces are being occupied on a regular basis.
Larry made a motion that effective immediately, March
17th, sites will be assigned by availability only. No
requests will be honored. Mark seconded the motion. After
discussion Susan polled the Board members: Larry – yes;
Mark – yes; Howard – yes; Kim – yes; Cherri – yes; Vicki
– yes; Susan – yes. The motion passed unanimously.
Operations Supervisor Report:
Steve reported on projects that have been completed and
are in progress. Work on the cottages continues. Several
of them are completed and the others should be done by the
1st week of April.

Relay for Life
at Pismo Creek RV
May 12th, 2012
At each Relay for Life event there are three ceremonies. The first one is the
“Opening Ceremony” where all Cancer Survivors present walk the first lap. At
the conclusion of that lap, each survivor is presented with a medal to
CELEBRATE another year of victory.
For the second lap, Cancer Survivors are joined by their Caregivers. At the
conclusion of the second lap, caregivers are also presented with a
token of thanks for the amazing
support they have provided over the course of the last year.
At dusk the second ceremony begins.
It is called the Luminaria Ceremony. It
is held in honor or in memory of loved
ones who have battled cancer. A
luminaria bag is purchased and decorated REMEMBERING the life of
an individual, a candle is placed inside the bag and lit. The candle remains lit
for the entire night. The names on
each luminaria bag are read aloud. The ceremony concludes by walking
one lap in silence.
The final ceremony is the “Closing Ceremony”. At the conclusion of the
walk each person present pledges to
do something during the coming year to FIGHT BACK against Cancer. For
instance, eat an apple instead of a bag of chips at lunch, or remind
someone you love to get that check-
up now that they’ve turned 50.
On May 12th, I will be walking the Park from 9am to 9pm. I’d love for
you to come and join me for any or all of that time. I am purchasing
Luminaria Bags to honor: Pat Hudson,
Lyla Schultz, Vicki Ketchie, Susan Bolthauser, Roy Hand, Jeanne
Chlouber and to remember Carol Atkinson.
If you are unable to attend but would like to purchase a luminaria bag and
have your loved one represented and their name read aloud at our
ceremony, please let me know. The cost is $10 per bag. Checks are made
out to the American Cancer Society
and accepted here in the office.
