Hi, my name is Dory. I am a 2-year-old Pit

Bull mix. I was with a Brunswick Shelter and I am so happy to be in a

foster home! I am a very smart girl and I

love everyone. I don't bark and I am very food motivated. I would be a wonderful agility dog or you can just teach me tons of tricks, I learn

very fast and I am ea-ger to please. I am

crate-trained and I walk great on a leash. Won’t you please call Pender

Perfect Pets and schedule a meeting

with me? I have waited long enough for my furever home! Our number is 910-538-0106. I hope to meet you soon! I am spayed, current on

vaccinations, heartworm negative and microchipped.

I am sponsored by Nina Voltaire, a loyal supporter of Pender Perfect Pets - a Pit Bull, senior and large breed

dog rescue.

Hi there, I’m Max! I’m a 16-week-old kitten boy and they

call me a ‘cow cat’ or ‘moo cat’ since my

black and white markings resemble a Holstein cow. What

do you think? Never-theless, I’m definitely a playful, happy and very loveable kitten

who enjoys attention and kisses. I am

already neutered, up to date on kitten

shots and a perfect litterbox-user. I hope you’ll come visit me

at Petsmart in Wilmington. You can watch me skip around the room chasing toys, or you can scoop me up and hold me in your arms for some cuddle-time. You can also call Cat Adoption Team at 910-792-9014 and they’ll be happy to give you any other information you need. Hope to see

you soon - Moooooooo!

I am sponsored in loving memory of Georgie by Dustin and Bonnie Braudway.

Hi, my name is Mercy. I am a 2 to 3-year-old Red Pit Bull girl. I am one lucky girl because I was rescued from a very

bad situation. I won’t bore you with the

bad part but I will tell you the good

part! I am now an

adoptable Pender Perfect Pet thanks to a very nice lady who saved my life. I live in a foster home with other doggies and I am even fine around cats. I love people and kids and I

have mastered the art of walking on a leash. I could really see myself living in a nice house with a nice big

family to play with me - with dog beds and treats galore. I could really get used to that kind of life. Won’t you con-sider adopting me so I can have a family all my own? It

doesn't have to be big and I can even go without the treats, but having my own family - now that would mean the world to me. Please call Pender Perfect Pets if you

would like to meet me at 910-538-0106.

I am sponsored by my foster mommy and rescuer Dottie Culbreth Covington.

URGENT, URGENT!

My Time Is Running Out!

How can America’s most popular dog be sitting in a shelter?

My name is Cassidy (A009432) and I’m a

Black Lab who is running out of time while waiting pa-

tiently for a family to discover me. The

Black Lab is #1 among U.S. families, so why there’s not a line outside my door

is beyond me. My breed is intelligent and affectionate, easy to train and happy to help. We’re friendly not only to our family but to others in the neighborhood, and we love going on adventures. I’m a young female who is already spayed and vaccinated. I can sit on command and was found as a stray. I’d love to find a family SOON because there is just not enough kennels at the shelter and new

dogs are arriving all the time. Please hurry over and dis-cover me - I’m a gem! For directions or more information,

call Pender County Animal Shelter at 910-259-1484 or email [email protected].

I am sponsored in honor of Kathleen M. Langone.

Page 6: PawPrints Magazine September 2013

I need a new foster or furever home so I can start my heart-

worm treatment! Hi, my name is Scully. I am a

3-year-old Mini Blue Pit Bull girl. I was

only 23 pounds and almost dead when I

was brought to Pender County Animal Shelter.

Thankfully the staff there saw the ur-

gency of my condi-tion and took me to the vet right away. I pulled through and thankfully Pender Perfect Pets offered to take me into res-

cue! I am now in a wonderful foster home just waiting for my new family. I am 39 pounds now! The only bad part about this story is that I did test positive for heartworms. Pender

Perfect Pets is covering my heartworm treatment, spay, mi-crochip, shots and other medical needs. I would really like to find a new, calm foster home or furever home before starting heartworm treatment if possible. I would do best in a home with another male dog preferably bigger than me and also a

home with no cats. I love people and I would thrive in a home with adults and older children. Please consider meet-

ing me today, call my rescue about me at 910-538-0106.

I am sponsored by Beth Edmonds who is a loyal supporter of Pender Perfect Pets.

Do your chil-dren need a sweet dog to play with and

love? Or maybe you do? Well, I’m perfect

for everyone! My name is

Jennie and I’m a family-friendly girl who would be an excellent companion. At just 1½-years-old, I’m a very sweet Hound mix who will happily sit on

command. That’s what I’m

doing in my photo - aren’t I a pretty girl? I love to be petted and I love receiving attention. I am already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. The only thing left on my list to do is find my forever home! Please call Pender County Humane Society at 910-259-7022 and tell them you’re

interested in me. I’ll be waiting!

Sponsored in memory of Milo, the big black dog who stole our hearts! Mommy and Daddy miss you

every day!

I’ve Been Waiting Months for a

Home! Please Read About Me!

Hi there! My

name is Wheeler (A063907) and I’m an 11-month-old

Lab/Blue Tick Hound mix. I’m a

happy, quiet, gentle young boy who gets

along great with other dogs. I walk

well on a leash, know how to sit on command and am learning to fetch. I just love going into the play area where I can cuddle with volunteers and inter-act with my doggie friends. I’m also neutered and vacci-nated! The volunteers would like you to know that I’m a

wonderful boy and they hope I find a family real soon! You see, there are dogs arriving at the shelter every day and

there’s not enough room for us all. I’m simply a great dog and I keep getting overlooked! Won’t you please give me

the chance to be your best friend ? I’ll be so grateful!! Just come out to the shelter and meet me. For driving directions or more information, call Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services at 910-754-8204.

I am sponsored by Terry, Patty and Trigger.

Thank you!

Interested in a purebred Ger-man Shepherd

who is well-trained and

ready for family life? You’ve come to the

right place! My name is Carly (A066266) and

I’m a very friendly, very

loving lady who is 10-years-

young. I have the youthful

spirit and atti-tude of a teen-

ager! I am friendly to eve-ryone I meet

and if you ask me to sit, I do it immediately. I take treats very gently from your fingers and I adore being caressed and petted. You’ll

be delighted to take me for walks around the neighbor-hood or to the beach because I am an expert on the leash, no pulling at all. If you’d like to share your life with a beau-tiful, noble and loveable girl like me, please call Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services at 910-754-

8204. They’ll be glad to tell you how we can meet!

I am sponsored by Adam's Folly Pet Boarding, Bolivia, NC. Thanks!

September 2013 www.facebook.com/PawPrintsMagazine 9

◄My name is Spot and I am a super, easy, laid back fella. I am com-pletely house-trained

and I do great with kids and other animals. I am

amazingly affection-ate! I am homeless because my owners

divorced. I am looking to complete a lonely

family who would love a new family member. I am around 5-years-old,

fixed, vaccinated and I have a lot of love and life to give.

◄My name is Saphira and I am a really nice girl. I was

adopted from the county shel-ter and was returned after

4-years because they moved to a new place without a fence. I was adopted again and spent

some time with some nice woman, but have been re-

turned again due to another move. So moving people need not apply! I do well with other dogs and kids, but am a little too curious for a cat. I have

been working on my manners with a volunteer and she says that I am an exceptionally

smart dog who knows sit, down, stay, and I walk on a loose leash. I am house-trained, spayed, vaccinated and heart-worm negative. My adoption fee at Animal Control was

sponsored by Edwin Keagy. Thank you, Edwin, for helping me on my journey of finding my forever home.

►Hi, it's me, Jax. How do you like my new outfit? I'm going for bold colors to combat "Black Dog Syndrome". That's where perfectly wonderful black dogs

are overlooked because they don't catch your eye like lighter-colored dogs do.

I'm a 1-year-old Lab. I like to run around in a fenced yard, play with the other dog in my foster home, chew on bones and dog toys, go for walks, cuddle, and take naps. I'm obedient and eager to please.

I know "sit", "down", "stay", and "play dead". I learned the rules and routine in my foster home quickly. My life got off

to a rough start. I was born with a condi-tion that has a long, scary sounding name. It left me almost

blind and with hip dysplasia and other less serious joint problems. The people who adopted me abandoned me to roam the streets when they discovered the extent of my

medical problems. As a result of that, I also have separation anxiety. But please don't stop reading here - now here’s the

good stuff. Things are looking up for me now! Firstly, my extremely poor eyesight isn't a problem for me after I get used to the furniture and room layout in my home. In my foster home I was able to find my way around pretty well

after a few days and now I'm completely comfortable. I can even run around the backyard with confidence. Secondly, Adopt-An-ANGEL is going to help with the surgery on my

hips if needed. The surgery is serious and it will take quite a while to recover fully, but I'll be able to walk throughout the whole thing. And finally, I'm beginning to get a little better about separation anxiety. It's going to be a slow process and I'll need a home with a consistent schedule so I can

learn to rely on my people again - I can get there with your help. In spite of my problems, my foster parents say "Jax isn't disabled. He's a normal, happy, exuberant dog who

just happens to bump into things more than most Labs do. We make a few adjustments for that and then let him be the fun dog that he is. He's been one of the easiest dogs we've fostered. He has a lot of love to give and his happiness is

contagious." So don't be scared of my problems. They will be overcome and all that will be left is a wonderful dog.

►My name is Johnnie and I am a Walker Hound mix with probably some Basset Hound given my

really long droopy ears and slightly bowed out feet. I am a real

sweetheart, very friendly and playful. I am neutered, heartworm

negative and have all of my shots. I weigh around 50 to 60

pounds. I am a goofy boy with a really unique woof (like to bay). In this picture, I have flipped my ear back like a girl who flips her hair

back over to the side! How cute is that? I am gentle and do not have a mean bone in my body. I am just

a typical hound dog who is great with dogs, kids and cats - and I will remind you of Droopy-dog. I would do best in a home with another dog to play

with and a fenced-in back yard to run, romp and play in.

◄Hello everyone! I’m Josh and I’m a super loving kitty. My sib-ling and best friend in the whole world, Sam, has already been adopted. Now I’m hoping my turn will come soon. I want a loving home, too. I’m a 6-month-old boy who has already been neutered and I’m cur-rent on vaccinations. Adopt me today!

Call us about our top of the line Laser Therapy!

My name is Clifford

and I know I am not a Poo-dle, but the poo-

dles saved me. Be-

sides, I'm a Border Collie mix so I am smarter than they are any-

way. I was just a year old the end of April. I am a very friendly boy and love to play fetch with a tennis ball. I'm also learning to play catch with a Frisbee. I would like to

find a forever home with another dog and/or person for me to play with to teach me lots of new tricks. I am a very busy boy! While I live indoors, I would like to have a fenced area that I can run and play in. I am crate-trained, house-trained

and walk very well on a leash. I have a very interesting history and story to tell. If you go the Carolina Poodle Res-cue website at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org, look at my profile under the available dogs and you can read all about me and see a video! I am truly a movie star! So go to our

website or call 864-489-3559 for more information! Thanks.

I am sponsored by the Tisinger family in loving memory of our dear Sprockett who blessed us with his kind and

gentle spirit. We love you, buddy.

URGENT, URGENT!

My Time Is Running Out!

What’s a smiling,

happy, friendly boy like me doing without

a family to call my own? My name is Buddy (A009243)

and I’m a 2-year-old Lab mix who was found on July 3 by

Animal Control. I was a stray, wandering

along the road side. I’ve been making

human friends at the shelter and, while I haven’t shared a kennel with another

dog, my friends can tell by my social demeanor that I’d get along just fine with another doggie. I can sit on command, as you can see from my photo, and I’m also vaccinated and

de-wormed. I’ll also be neutered before my adoption, so you don’t have to even worry about that. I must remind you

though, that my time is running out! You see, Animal Control is required to take in every needy animal and there just isn’t enough cages and kennels for us all! So please,

hurry over and adopt me! For directions or more information, call Pender County Animal Shelter at

910-259-1484 or email [email protected].

I am sponsored in honor of Kathleen M. Langone.

Howdy, my name is Rocky and I’m a very sweet 5-year-old Hound mix. I have al-

ready been neu-tered, I weigh 35 pounds and I’m house-trained.

I’m energetic and playful, I’m a

good snuggler, and I’m great

with kids. I would be a great fit for an active individ-ual or family who loves running or

walking. I need a fenced yard to

play in, sticks to catch and possibly a playful brother or sister. I know basic commands and am not destructive

around the house. I am full of love and ready to meet you. I’m looking for a new home because the other dogs that I live with do not want me here. I am current on vaccina-tions and tested negative for heartworms (and of course, I’m taking monthly prevention to keep me that way). I’m good on a leash, I love belly rubs and I have a cute habit

of sleeping under the covers. I’m really sweet and my family wants to find me a home with furry brothers and/or sisters who want to be my friend and play (but I could also

be happy being your one and only pet). Please call 828-206-9150 so that you can find out more about me

and how we can be together forever.

◄I’m sitting for a treat and smiling at the same time. Wouldn’t you like to share your life with a friendly, well-mannered boy like me? I’m Max (A064399), an 11-month-old Golden Retriever mix who was found as a stray. The volunteers have found that I also know the commands ‘paw’ and ‘down’. I’m such a happy, social fellow and I’d love to be all yours!

CAT and KITTEN Adoption Fee:

▲We are Willow and Tulip (A067185, A067186), two sisters who desperately need loving homes! At just

6-weeks-old, we are smokey-gray Manx kittens! Yes, that means we have no tails, just tiny little nubbins. We are soft and sweet and love to be cuddled. Let’s go home!

◄What’s a beautiful Calico like me doing without a family? I just can’t understand it. I’m Sophia (A066972) and I am a 2-year-old girl who loves to stretch out on a nice cat bed and be rubbed. I give the sweetest purrs when you give me attention and I am always nice to strangers and friends alike. I’m already spayed and vaccinated so I’m ready to go!

►I hope I’m the puppy who steals your heart! My name is Myron (A066801) and I’m

a 4-month-old boy who is plafyul, happy and charming!

I’ll lift your spirits with my laid-back and affectionate nature. I was found as a

stray, but I quickly learned to sit for treats. That’s what I’m doing in my photo! They tell

me I look like an English Pointer with perhaps some

Walker Hound mixed in. Let me be your new baby boy!

►Looking for a

declawed cat who will warm your heart and

home? Well, allow me to introduce

myself! I’m Harley

(A066508), an 8-month-old boy who is ready-made to be your loving companion. I’m friendly,

love to be rubbed, and I enjoy cat toys. My front paws are declawed, so I’ll stay inside out of harm’s way. Adopt me!

◄I would be the perfect companion for you and your family because I’m a very sweet girl who enjoys being held and kissed. I’d also entertain you by the way I play with toys. So come get me! My name is Gracie (A067067) and I’m a 4-month-old Tabby kit-ten with beautiful black stripes. I purr when I’m being given affection and I lay in your arms like a baby. Come meet me!

Whoever adopts me will sure be lucky! I’m a de-lightful girl from head to

toe. Hi, my name is Delta (A066640) and I’m a

friendly, spayed, female Border Collie mix who

loves people and makes friends with everyone I meet! My tail is always

wagging and I have a per-petual smile on my face. I walk excellently on a leash and am looking forward to the day when I can go for strolls in the neighborhood with my new family. I’m a

perfect size - not too big and not too small. Just right! There is something so charming and adorable about me - almost teddy bear like - but you’ll have to come out here and meet me in person so you can see for yourself. I will be sure to melt your heart! For driving directions or more

information, call Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal Protec-tive Services at 910-754-8204.

I am sponsored by Willetts Horse Farm, Bolivia NC in

loving memory of Maya. No one can ever love you like a rescued pet.

How great would it be to wake up to this gorgeous face every morning? My name is Blaze and I’m a

breathtakingly beau-tiful boy, just 3-years-old. I am so friendly and so sweet - eve-ryone loves me! I am already house-trained and I get

along great with chil-dren. In fact, in my former life, I lived

with a 5-year-old. I can sit and stay on command (see my

photo for proof) and I just love to play fetch. I enjoy the water, so trips to the lake or beach will be welcomed by me, or I’ll be just as content splashing in a water hose or wading pool in the back yard! I love to play outside and I also enjoy going for rides in the car. They tell me I’m a Shepherd/Husky mix. Call the New Hanover Humane Society at 910-763-6692 and let’s make plans to meet!

My name is Bobette

and I am a very sweet,

black, 4-month-old

kitten. I was once part of a feral cat

colony but luckily

someone rescued me

and has taught me that people are ok. I

absolutely love other cats so if you have a lonely kitty who needs a friend, please choose me. There are lots of black kitties with Adopt-An-ANGEL right now so please choose

one of us. Seems so many people overlook us and choose others who are more colorful. I think that's pretty lame. If you would like to know more information about

me, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557. You can visit us online at www.adoptanangel.net for more details.

I am sponsored by Perry Davis. Thank you!

Hi, my name is Lizzie. I am a 2-year-old Pit Bull girl who is ready

to go to a furever home. I am currently

in a foster home with a special needs little boy

and I have taken a strong liking to him. I would be fabulous in a

home with kids and another larger male

dog. However, I don't really want to be in a home with kitties or small doggies. I am a very calm girl and

would make an excel-lent walking buddy. I really do have that

kind of personality that draws you in and makes you happy. Please, will you con-

sider adopting me? Please call Pender Perfect Pets at 910-538-0106 to meet me soon.

I am sponsored by Nancy Warner, a loyal supporter of Pender Perfect Pets - a Pit Bull, senior and large breed

dog rescue.

◄If only Dorothy had me instead of that silly dog, she

would have made it home right away.

We all know cats are too smart to wander

away from home and get lost. And besides I’m much

cuter! I would have chased those flying monkeys away or

maybe even caught one! My name is Toto and I am a 7-month-old boy.

They say I am one of the nicest cats around, which is typical for a black cat.

►Declawed! Now that I have your atten-

tion, take a long look at either me, Link, or

the cat below me, Radcliff. We are both

declawed. I am an 18-month-old, male,

brown Tabby and Maine Coon mix. I am very social, get

along with other cats, adjust quickly to new

situations, and have a magnificent tail! In

fact, we both do.

◄With a regal name like

Radcliff, you would think I might be the new prince of England, but

instead I am a 3-year-old,

male, Flame Point Persian mix. And yes, as previously

mentioned above, I’m

declawed. If that’s not

enough to get your attention, I am also leash-trained! So if you want to look really cool, take a cat for a walk! See what

kind of attention you get.

◄▲“When we get to Sesame Street”, that’s what we sing.

We are Grover, Ernie and Bert. Bert and Grover

are the black and white; and I

am Ernie, the tabby and white.

They say we are the class

clowns, but that just kinda

comes with the territory. We are 6-months-

old and very affectionate. We push all the other kitties out of the way so we can get all the attention.

◄My last owner let me get a little too fat. So

now I am looking for someone who loves a girl with

a few extra pounds,

someone who might like to help me lose a

few of those

pounds. My name

is Gracie and I’m a 3-year-old Seal Point Siamese mix. I am very sweet but I don’t like dogs - and well, I’m not sure I want to share my new owner with anyone, so other cats are questionable. Best we just keep each other company.

Hello, named after my white paws -- Sox, I have been a

resident at C.A.R.E. for awhile because I had some seizures. I also had an in-jury to my tail so it's very short now. I am such a good kitty that I take my

medication with ease every day and have had no further episodes of seizures. I am

6-years-old and I love to snuggle anytime! If you are someone in need of snug-gles, then please see the

application and the required specifications before applying at carewilmington.org. If

you have any questions, please call 910-256-2624.

Hi, my name is Sancho. I was surrendered to

C.A.R.E. because I had parvo. Under the gentle hands of C.A.R.E. I was nursed back to health.

I need someone with pa-tience since it takes a while to warm up to new people.

The only people so far I have come to be fond of are adults. Once I get to know you, we'll be best friends.

Plus I am the cutest Chihua-hua ever!!! If you are inter-ested in adopting me, please see the required specifica-

tions and adoption application at carewilmington.org. Please call 910-256-2624 with any questions.

Hey there! Check me out. My name is Singer and I got that name because I

swallowed a sewing needle. The staff at C.A.R.E. fixed me up, but now I need you to take me home. I am SO

playful, but I purr like an engine when you hold me and love to have my ears

rubbed. I like both cats and dogs, so I can make friends easily. Let's go home now!

If you are interested in adopting me, please see

the required specifications and adoption application at

carewilmington.org. Please call 910-256-2624 with any questions.

I am sponsored by Atlantic Animal Hospital who supports C.A.R.E. (Coastal Animal Rescue Effort).

Hi, my name is Jake. I am an

8-year-old Pit Bull boy who was res-cued by Pender County Animal Shelter. I have

since been trans-ferred to Pender

Perfect Pets. I am a very calm boy, I love people and I don't even bother

with the other dogs or 3 cats in my cur-rent foster home.

Not much is known about my history because I was

picked up as a stray, but what I can tell you is that I am a very grateful boy as most of us older dogs are. I appreci-

ate the little things like a soft couch and good food. I would be a wonderful companion to anyone looking for a cuddly, laid-back fur kid. I, however, have one unfortu-nate issue. I do have heartworms BUT WAIT! I will be starting treatment soon, I have been neutered and I can be adopted. My rescue is providing me with the treat-

ment I need. So don't let that change your mind...take a chance on me. I promise you will fall in love with my

charming, calm personality. Call my rescue at 910-538-0106. They can tell you how wonderful us Elderbulls are.

I am sponsored by my foster mommy,

Lani Marie Wagner.

Hi, my name is Brad. I am a 1-year-old Pit Bull boy who was rescued just in time! If

you are looking for "that" dog - that one dog that you meet and can’t not adopt… well, that’s me. One meet-ing with me and you will be in love. I am a very, very

happy boy despite the life I have led up until now. I will give you lots of kisses and

be your cuddle buddy when it’s time to go to bed. I will play ball with you and keep your kids entertained for hours. I am "that" family dog you have been looking for. I, how-

ever, have a couple of things I need to mention and I hope this will not change your mind about me - but instead make

you realize just how special I really am. I suffer from a genetic form of hip dysplasia on one side along with a

luxating patella. I will need to go through a leg amputation surgery once I have completed heartworm treatment be-cause on top of the dysplasia, I have heartworms as well. People tend to associate these issues with expensive care and loss of life span but in my case, that just is not so. My rescue will be covering my medical needs. In the mean-time, I’m searching for a loving foster who can see me

through my treatments and surgery or an incredibly special kind of adoptive family who will take a chance on me de-spite the patience they will need during my 3-month treat-ment phase. I know it’s hard to find those special people

who will adopt a dog like me, but I know they are out there. Maybe you could be that special person for me? Call Pender Perfect Pets at 910-538-0106 if you would like

to meet me to foster or adopt.

I am sponsored by Nancy Warner, a loyal supporter of Pender Perfect Pets - a Pit Bull, senior and large breed

dog rescue.

Kittens, Kittens, Kittens, Kittens! We four precious babies are waiting to meet you and melt your heart! Our names

are Hope, Gracie (Calico girls), Fozzy and Elmo (orange-Tabby boys) and we are simply darling. At just 6-weeks-old, we were found in a neighbor’s yard and have been enjoying our time spent in a loving foster home. We re-cently went to the vet’s office where we received a clean bill of health and our first kitten shots. We will be spayed

and neutered prior to our adoption. We love to skip around the room, play-wrestle, nap together and cuddle and kiss with humans! You simply must come meet us

and choose the one you’d like to take home. You’ll be so happy you did! Call 910-791-3800 for adoption info.

We are sponsored by Joseph Zell & Company.

Thank you!

My name is Buster and I have been every-where trying to find the right home and family. I am a Border Collie

mix and I do what I do and I like what I like. I herd other dogs, which

sometimes annoys them. I like one foster mom and one foster

dad and am not both-ered by other dogs,

cats, gerbils, or para-keets. My foster dad

travelled all the way to West Virginia to rescue me. He and my foster mom both are Mountaineers and speak fluent hillbilly, unlike those snobs in the Hamptons who tried to rescue me, but re-turned me in a NY minute! I do have some anxiety but, once I know you will care for me no matter what, you will not question my loyalty or my devotion. I am energetic, I

like to run and I do great on a leash. I am fully vetted, I am house-trained, I do not make messes, and I love my toys and bones. If you are serious about adopting me, despite my alleged flaws (and I am pretty sure we all have them),

contact my Columbus Humane Society foster dad at [email protected] or 910-262-2889 or my foster

mom at [email protected]. Should you prove to be the right family for me, we can negotiate about the terms of my

adoption. The bottom line is: check me out!

I am sponsored by force-free dog training at www.jeetkunedog.com

Hi! My name is Bella and I am a 1½-year-old female Pit bull. I was born on

Halloween 2011 and I look kinda like a vampire bat, don't ya

think? I am a complete snug-gle bunny! My foster mommy says I am an attention hog

and lets me do one of my favor-ite things; cud-

dling on the couch watching TV! I also love to play, go for power walks, and I cannot live without my red bone! I love to chew it! I am a good girl and as long as I have my red bone, I will not chew anything that my

mommy calls "inappropriate". I am house-trained, crate-trained, up to date on all of my shots and I have been

spayed! I am heartworm negative and I am on prevention and flea/tick control. I need to be the princess of the house which means no other doggies or cats. If you

would like to meet me and make me the Princess fur kid of your house, call Pender Perfect Pets at 910-538-0106.

I am sponsored by my foster mommy, Jenny Weesner,

in loving memory of Tatiana.

►This is your lucky day! My name is Chip (A292264) and I’m the most awesome

orange Tabby kitty. I’m 8-months-old, I’m already neutered and vaccinated,

I’m super affectionate, I love to be held and petted, and I’m good with other cats. I am homeless through no fault of my own. You see, my family had to surrender me to the shelter because of an illness in the family. So if you are looking to

adopt an inside only Lap Cat, I beg you to please consider me. I’m a great

cat who just wants to be loved and I’ll return that love tenfold!

◄My family named me Baby Girl (A291712) because I’m a sweet and gentle baby girl!

They tell me that I’m a German Shepherd mix who is already spayed

and vaccinated. I know how to sit and lay down on command, I’m good on a leash, I love being brushed and I can play

fetch. I also have a great love of treats and toys! My owners fell on hard times and I had to come to the shelter to

find a new home. Please consider giving

a medium-sized girl like me a forever home. ►I’m Savannah

(A292199) and I’m a beautiful southern girl

who would love to make your acquaint-

ance. I’m a petite Hound who is already

spayed and vacci-nated. I’m an avid

lover of treats, I know how to sit like a lady,

I have nice leash manners, and I take treats ever so gently

from your fingertips. I do, however, know

how to have fun and I like being silly and goofy when I play with my toys. If you want me to be putty in your hands,

just give me a nice backrub and I’m all yours!

◄Hi, my name is Chuck (A287600) and I’m a love-able, purry, playful and af-fectionate boy. I’m not shy at all and I enjoy making people feel loved. I will even stand up on my hind legs so that I can nuzzle my head into your hand. I love to be held and I like to act all goofy when I’m playing with toys. If you are looking to adopt an entertaining, 1-year-old, people-loving feline companion - you’ve found him!

►Hello, my name is Pippa (A291468) and I’m a

spayed and vaccinated girl who is 1-year-old. Some-

one found me as a stray and brought me here to the

shelter so that I would be safe and have a chance at

finding a new family. I’m social and I crave being rubbed. I’ll even rub up

against your legs. I’m play-ful, loving and curious and am looking for the same in a best friend. Any chance

you’ll come save me?

◄My name is Daisy (A252874) and I’m a German Shepherd and Boxer mix who is ap-proximately 2-years-old. I know how to sit on command and I have been learning how to navigate the agility course here at the shel-ter. I’ve been spayed and I’m current on vacci-nations. My ideal home would be with a loving and active family. I hope you’ll give me the second chance I deserve.

Dilute Calico girl kittens and we

are healthy, playful and adorable!

Hello, my name is Lemon Drop! I’m a

female, purebred Lemon Walker

Hound who is quite young at just 1-year-

old. I was aban-doned by my owner

when he got into some serious trou-ble, but a wonderful woman came to my rescue. She helped me to arrive at my

current foster home. Unfortunately, it’s only a temporary stay and SOAR is

trying to help me find a forever home. I

am a very sweet girl, spayed and vaccinated, with a very mild temperament. If you let me, I would love to just curl up and cuddle in your lap. Wouldn’t you like to meet me? Call SOAR at 910-457-6340. They can answer any ques-

tions you might have!

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you!

Carley is my name and I’m a really good dog. That’s why I’m surprised and

confused that my family gave me up! They de-

cided they didn’t have time for me, so here I am. I

really love people and I’m very

good with chil-dren. I’m 16-

months-old, up to date on all of my shots, spayed and now I’m even micro-chipped – that’s in case I get lost, you will be able to find

me! Please give me a chance to be with a family again. It would be great to have a fenced-in yard and kids to play with. If you have another dog, let’s find out how we like

each other. I hope that you would like to meet me and that you will come visit me at Paw’s Place. They are open every day from 9 – Noon. You can also call them at

◄My former family was unable to take me with them when they moved, so this is your lucky break! My name is Niko and I’d be a great catch for some lucky person or family. I’m a 1-year-old neutered boy who is house-trained, playful and loving. I get along with other dogs and I weigh just 50 pounds. A perfect size! I’d love to spend the rest of the year with you by my side. Take me home!

◄We sure are cute little kittens, aren’t we? Just wait until you meet us in person! You’ll have a

hard time choosing one to take home (and maybe you’ll take both of us.)

My name is Precious and I’m the Tortoiseshell girl sitting in front. My sister, Grace, is posing in the

background. We are two very social and friendly girls who never meet a stranger. We even like

other cats! You can entertain us with a few cat

toys and we’ll keep you smiling with our purry, loving ways. We’re just 12-weeks-old, spayed, up to date on shots and litterbox-trained. Let’s go!

►Hello! My name is Rocco and I’m a little boy,

just 2-years-old. I once had a home but the other cat didn’t take a liking to me. It’s odd, because I

get along great with other felines! In my photo, I’m

relaxing in my kitty condo. Since I’m used to living

indoors, I’ll be happy to do this at your house! I’m a

very friendly and loving lap cat who is ready to make you feel adored. All you have to do is adopt me!

◄House-trained? Check. Good with children? Check. Good with other dogs? Check. And friendly to cats? Check. Okay, I think you get where things are going, don’t you? I’m a perfect family dog, ready to move in and start making great memo-ries. My name is Bristol and I’m an 11-month-old, female Fox Terrier mix. I’m a perfect size at 42 pounds and I play nicely in a fenced-in yard. Come meet me!

▲The person who adopts one (or both) of us will be very lucky! We are two very friendly brothers with social, well-adjusted personalities. We like everyone, simple as that, and enjoy being held and kissed. We’re still kittens at 16-weeks-old. A lifetime of love is yours when you adopt us!

►I’m a stunning girl

with long, silky, black and white

fur. I’m a joy to touch and caress! I’m also a joy to be around due to my

loving nature and friendly demeanor. My name is Missy and I’m a 2-year-old adult female with pretty green eyes. I was found as a stray by some nice folks who kept

me until space was available at the shelter. I’m a very good girl who is vaccinated, spayed and litterbox-trained.

Come on over and meet me, I’m waiting!

I’ve heard the volunteers talking and they’ve said things like I’m an

“adorable lovebug” and “I love her.”

I guess my affectionate

personality and friendly demeanor has melted their

hearts! My name is Greta and I’m a

purring and cuddling with

humans. Please take me home! If

great, now all I need is a family that would

at the rescue for a while now and am

looking forward to a happy future. I love to run and have lots of energy and lots of love to give. Can you

◄Hi! I’m Joker, a 4-year-old, Beagle/Jack Russell mix who is up to date on shots and I weigh about 20 pounds. They tell me the way I was living with 30 other dogs was not normal, who knew?! It’s taken

me some time to get used to having less dogs really close by, but I’ve

gotten used to it. I'm getting used to people now but I can still be a bit shy when I first meet them. The people here think that I would do

well in a home with a calm, smaller dog. I’m going to need someone

who will show me a lot of kindness and love and be very patient with

me. If you think that may be you, please call!

◄Millie is my name and they say I’m a special

needs pup. I really don’t know why. My rear foot is

deformed, but it doesn’t stop me from playing and running. Concrete and stones can be a little

hard on my paw once in a while. I have a little hear-ing problem too, but noth-

ing stops me from being a loving pooch! We think I’m a Bulldog/Boxer mix, just 1½-years-old. I’m spayed, vacci-

nated and 35 pounds. I love being around people and other dogs that like to play. I am walking nicely on a

leash and learning different commands. I know that my “special someone” is out there. Hopefully, it’s you!

◄I’m Maggie and I’ve been at Paw’s Place

since I was 5-months-old. I’m just one now. I’m spayed, up to date on shots, healthy and

weigh 30 pounds. One of the first things you

notice about me are my pretty green eyes. Then

you notice that I am really quite calm for a

youngster. I enjoy play-ing with children, but we’re not real sure about me and other dogs. Some are okay. Crate-training is a good

idea, until I know the rules of the house. A fenced yard would also be fantastic. Come meet me!

▲That’s me, Tessie, in my jacket that says “I’m Available”. I’ve been at Paw’s Place for about 6

months. The vet says I am heartworm positive and they have started me on the protocol for treatment. If things go according to plan, in six months I should be

heartworm free! At about 1½-years-old, I am full grown at 33 pounds. I just love the attention I get from everyone. I also love to play with other dogs. I wonder what it would be like to live in a home with nice people who would take care of me - could that be you? Come on out to Paw’s Place or one of our

Meet and Greets to find out.

◄Someone said, “Marco – smile” and I did! Isn’t this a great

photo? It really shows how happy I am. I don’t know how long I was out and about on my own,

but I sure feel lucky that I ended up here. When I

arrived I was taken to the vet. I am 70 pounds and vaccinated, but then we

found out that I am heart-worm positive. Never

fear, I’ve been started on the protocol to treat me. I’m house-trained, neutered and a really good-natured dog who loves people. I do like to be top banana when I’m around other dogs. Everyone who sees me says what a great dog I am. If you give me a chance and come visit me at Paw’s Place, I know I will

leave paw prints on your heart!

◄It’s me, Shelby. I arrived at Paw’s Place this past Christ-

mas Eve after living with a fam-ily for five years. I guess things changed for them somehow. I

must admit, when I was first dropped off, I was very con-fused and sad. I was born at Paw’s Place about six years

ago. Perhaps you have heard of Beau and Sugar Pie?

They are my siblings. I'm a female Hound mix, vacci-

nated and 65 pounds. I'm adjusting to my new situation and hoping that someone will give me a chance. I love to go for walks and run around and play, but the thing I do

best is give my love. I am house-trained and ready to go!

Page 30: PawPrints Magazine September 2013

Hi there! I’m BoBo! I am a gentleman of a

certain age, 13 to be approximate.

I’m currently working to rid

myself of some pesky heart-

worms. I was turned in because my owners were

moving and couldn’t take me with them. I think that’s a big No-

No! I guess maybe they were Lo-Co. I, however, prefer to look on the bright side of things since I’m a “treat jar half-full” kind of guy. I know that there is much in life

ahead for me. Their loss is your gain. Could you be my forever family? If so, just ask for me – BoBo! To adopt

me, call Carolina Basset Hound Rescue at 919-708-4247 or visit our website at www.cbhr.com. Also, we are short on foster homes! If you have ever thought about foster-

ing, contact CBHR for more details.

I am sponsored by Pine Valley Animal Hospital.

Hi, my name is Julie. I am a 5 to 6-year old Walker Hound mix. I was at Pender County Animal Shelter for 6-months waiting for someone to adopt me! Now, I’m with

Pender Perfect Pets. I am not your typical hound dog. I would

make such a wonder-ful family dog if I was just given the chance.

I love all dogs, cats and kids. I am very gentle and good na-tured. I rarely bark, I am crate-trained, house-trained and I can’t tell you how

much I love going for car rides. I have

been in foster care for 3-months just waiting for someone to call about me but so far no one has. I hope after you

read this, you will consider meeting me. You really won’t regret it! Please call my foster mommy at 910-538-0106 to set up a meeting with me. I am spayed, up to date on all

vaccinations, heartworm negative and microchipped.

It’s a mystery how I ended up on the street all alone! I am a pure-white beauty with green eyes. I love to be held by humans and enjoyed snuggling while my photo was taken. I also like cat toys. Adopt me and let’s enjoy life together!

All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas/ticks prior to adoption.

◄I just don’t know how I ended up in this world all alone! I was found by Ani-mal Control and am waiting for my forever family to walk through the door. My name is Bijou (A009025) and I’m a 2-year-old Tortoiseshell girl who is already spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. I love to be with humans and will purr while you’re holding me. I hope you'll hurry over to the shelter and adopt me. I’m a great girl!

►My family moved to Texas and brought me to

Animal Control! Don’t they allow cats in Texas? My

name is Sassy (A009699) and I’m a spayed, dilute

Tortoiseshell who is up to date on vaccines and litter-

box-trained. At 5-years-old, I’m a loving beauty who enjoys being petted and

stroked. I like kitty treats, cat toys and I even get

along with other felines. You’ll be so glad you gave me a place in your home!

◄I’m a Big Boy with big cheeks and a big heart! And my name is Bubba (A009621)! If you’re a fan of loveable male orange Tab-bies who have nothing but sweetness in their disposi-tion, I’m the kitty for you. At 7-years-old, I used to live with a senior lady, but she’s unable to take care of me anymore. I’m neutered, healthy and ready to make biscuits in your lap. I’ll purr all the way to your house!

►My name is Sugar (A009594) and I’ve

been told I resemble a Finnish Spitz! I just can’t imagine how a

beautiful, loving girl like me has ended up in

the city alone. I was found on the streets

and am hoping my new family will soon be at

the shelter door. I am spayed, vaccinated

and just 5-years-old. I love being around

people and have an affectionate personal-ity. How about driving over and meeting me?

My name is Daisy and I’m a sweet and social girl who

weighs just 15 pounds. I have short legs and it’s

possible that I’m a

wire-haired Dachshund mixed with Schnauzer or Terrier. All anyone knows for

sure is that I’m really cute. I’m approxi-mately

1-year-old, I’m playful and I get along great with other dogs and people. I am heartworm negative but I’m being treated for Lyme disease. I am current on all vaccinations

and I’ve already been spayed. For more information about me, please call 910-271-3101.

Well, hello darlings! My name is Catarina

and I am a super- model. That's right, I like to be treated like

the princess I am, which means being on

your lap or hanging out on your chest

while you are lounging and watching TV. I

love people! I have a very regal look about me and the way I hold myself lets everyone know what a diva I am. I'm such an

amazing girl and all the cat you will ever need. Which is a good thing because I don't really like other cats stealing my thunder, so I would

be best in a home with no other animals. I am already spayed, up to date on vaccines, tested negative for FIV and

Felv and am litterbox-trained. Can I please be your new princess? Call Cat Adoption Team at 910-792-9014 or my CAT foster mom at 843-222-3786 and let’s meet!

I am sponsored by Katherine Sweeney in loving

◄I’m a very cute little girl and my name is Kenzie! They tell me I’m a Terrier mix, with perhaps some Feist thrown in. At just 2-years-old, I’m fully grown and under 25 pounds. What a great size for an apartment, condo or house! I am loving and playful and I get along well with other dogs, including my dog-gie roommate. I enjoy munching on dog treats and meeting new people. Visit me and I’ll show you why I’m the one for you!

◄Looking for a great companion dog? Well, here I am to save the day! My name is Parker and I’m a terrific medium-size Hound who is about 2-years-old and 45 pounds. I love getting attention but I am also content to relax on a nice blanket and chill out. I don’t jump up on you like some will, and I can sit and shake on com-mand. Wow, I’m smart! Take me home, please.

◄Puppy breath and puppy kisses are in plentiful supply here at the shelter! There are six adorable puppies

just waiting to be held and kissed. We are Wilbur and Jackson, two of them! We are about 5-weeks-old and are still drinking milk from our mommy, Mimi, who is also at the shelter. Fill out your adoption application now and we can go home when we are weaned and

ready! Three of us are speckled, one is black, one

is black/brown, and one is brown with white paws. Our mom is a Beagle. Your heart will melt when you meet us!

◄My name is Lucas and I’m a big boy at just 10-months-old. I’m techni-cally still a puppy but I may be a Great Dane

mix. I have many of the traits of those “gentle

giants.” Apart from being beautiful, I have a great disposition. I’m so very sweet and when I go for walks I don’t pull on the

leash at all. I know some commands and am smart

enough to learn even more. I just love to please my humans!

Won’t you come meet me? I’m a wonderful family dog!

►Hello up there, would you

please adopt me? I promise to bring lots of love and fun into your life. My name is

Sammy and I’m a female Lab

mix, about 11-months-old. I’m still a puppy and active as a puppy will be. I am high-energy but also highly affectionate. I get along with the other dogs at the shelter very well and I love kids. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm preven-

tion. Rest assured, I will make a wonderful family dog!

►To look at me, you’d never guess that I’m

8-years-old! I’m a tiny girl named Sabrina

and I’m sad to say that I’ve been returned to

the shelter after being part of a loving family for years. My senior

citizen Mom had to move and couldn’t take me with her. I’m a very sweet and affectionate girl who is hoping that I

won’t have to stay at the shelter for much

longer. Won’t you please adopt me?

My Adoption Fee has been sponsored. What a Deal!

Hello! I am Tarby (the black Lab on the left) and this is

Husker (the golden Lab on the

right). We are available for

adoption! We are awesome dogs (if I do say so myself

– woof woof!). We have been

together our entire lives (4-years) and we would love to stay to-

gether. Husker loves to be loved and doesn’t mind a good brushing. Me - I am a tennis ball fetching addict! I will go after them until you can’t throw them anymore. We listen

and are very trainable. We’re also neutered and up to date on all our vaccines. We are not here because we

were bad or did anything wrong. It’s just our humans had to move and could not take us with them. And as much as we like SOAR and the awesome volunteers that take such good care of us – we would like a place of our own! For

more info, call our pals at 910-457-6340.

We are sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the

Rainbow Bridge.

◄Hi friends, my name is Allie. I’ve been told I’m about 3-years-old and they also tell me I’m a really cute and precious ‘mutt’. I have an extremely fun and loving personality. I like to run and play and am al-ready well trained. I’m so ready for my furever home with a loving and active family.

◄Max here, taking a little time out to say

“HI!” I am a kitten, just 4-months-old and my brothers Bubbles and Apollo and my sister Bella were in the last issue of PawPrints! Now - it’s MY turn!!

I am a sweet goof ball! I like to play (especially with my brother’s tail) and I don't mind if you pick me up and hold

me! I am up to date on all my kitty shots and

am neutered and litterbox-trained. Please come see me and the rest of my adorable family at SOAR!

►Am I handsome or what? My name is Butchy and I am about 4-months-old. I’m a very handsome boy with striking orange

stripes. For some reason, I was abandoned on Oak

Island and had found a place to live under a house. Some very kind construc-tion workers saw me and shared their pork chop

sandwiches with me every day until a nice lady took me to SOAR. I am cur-rently up to date on my

shots, litterbox-trained and neutered. I am soooooo laid-back and my motor runs like crazy when you pet

me! Can't wait to see you at SOAR!

◄I’m Black Velvet and my story is a little sad, but here goes. I was adopted from SOAR

about 1½ years ago by a very nice lady. I loved living with her! But she

passed away which made me sad. The great folks at SOAR took me back

and now I am settling in, but I miss having my own house! I’ll be 3-years-old

in October and I am a domestic long-haired girl with a smoky undercoat. I am spayed and up to date on all shots and tested negative for FIV. I would prefer a dog-free house but I am fine

with other people and other cats. Come meet me!

◄Hi, I’m Fonzie! And just like on Happy Days - I am the coolest!!! I am a 5-year-old Beagle mix who absolutely loves to play with my tennis ball! My other favorite things are being petted and… being petted! I am really affectionate and a very family-oriented dog! I think I will be pretty easy to train. Please come see me at SOAR. That stands for Southport/Oak Island Animal Rescue, in case you didn’t know!

▲I’m Zoey! I was wandering around on 211 when a nice man found me. I am about 14-months-old and weigh 40

pounds. I am an awesome girl and extremely smart! I al-ready know how to sit and lay down! I am vaccinated, up to

date on shots and spayed. Come meet me, please!

who loves every-body and I enjoy

playing at the Dog Club of Wilmington

where I’m staying right now, but I would really like a forever home. Adopt me and you’ll get my crate, training equip-ment including a DVD, all my toys and chew bones and

great with cats and I get along well with

docile male dogs. I’d even be a great agil-

ity dog! I’m also spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm

prevention. If you’d like to meet me,

◄Hello, my name is Tanner! I’m a

2-year-old English Set-ter/American Bull Dog

mix. I am quiet, gentle, house-trained and

crate-trained. My tail wags incessantly when I hear a familiar voice.

I am up to date on vaccines, neutered,

microchipped and heart-worm negative. I am a beautiful dog with strik-ing markings and will

make someone a won-derful companion. I love my people and am learning to

have more self-confidence around other dogs.

◄Hi, my name is Rusty! I’m a

2-year-old boy who appears to be a Jack Russell/Hound mix. I am very sweet. I’m

also friendly to my ca-nine buddies and I love

my people! I am somewhat shy, but my friends tell me obedi-ence training will in-

crease my self-confidence. I weigh

around 45 pounds, am up to date on shots and I’m crate-training and house-training well. Let’s get together!

◄Wheee, wanna play with me? My name is Lola and I’m a 6-year-old Shepherd/Lab mix. I am a sweet-loving gal

and I generally get along well with docile male dogs. I love to

run and play in the yard and snuggle inside with

my humans. I am house-trained, crate-trained, up to date on

vaccines and on heart-worm prevention. I do take glucosamine but,

as you can see, I get around just fine! When you adopt me, I will come to you with a microchip. Let’s go home!

◄I’m Kent, an 18-month-old Black Lab/Bull Dog mix who was found as a stray. I’m a favorite among the humans

who know me and I also received rave reviews at

two vet offices. I am up to date on vaccines, neutered, and doing well with house-training. Unfortunately, I’m heartworm positive and will be undergoing treatment. I desperately need donations to help heal my heart! Send

them to Sunburst at P.O. Box 10118, Wilmington, NC

28404. Donations can also be made via our website, www.sunburstfoundationofwilmington.org and via Pay Pal.

Thank you so much for your tax-deductible help!

Twelve years ago this month, September 2001, our organization,

Sunburst Foundation, officially took in its first fosters who were from the

Pender County Animal Shelter. They were a mother Redbone named Holiday and her four puppies, and a

Border Collie named Fred. Ten years ago this month in 2003 we became a

501c3 non-profit organization.

We are now very proud to have been part of the effort presently underway

to transform the Pender County Animal Shelter into a model facility for animal welfare. There have been

some key folks along the way who helped to make this all possible, Dr. Joni Gynp and Jewell Horton, who

helped to get the process started, and now Dr. Audrey Mizrahi and Health

Director Carolyn Moser, whose dedi-cated efforts have made it all possible.

Howdy. My name is Rocky and I was rescued when no

one wanted me. I’m approxi-

mately 10-months-old and

friendly. I love to play,

don’t mind other cats but would be happiest as the only cat or perhaps with one other cat. I can be a busy, run-around kind of kitty so if you have a playful cat, then I would fit in

nicely. I haven't met a dog yet so I don't know how I would do. I would probably do best in a house without small chil-dren as I can get excited. I’m looking for a loving, forever family. I’m just a sweet, playful guy who needs some spe-cial love. To find out more about me, please email Opera-tion TopCat at [email protected] or call 910-200-0612.

I am sponsored in loving memory of Annie Lake, cherished family member to Doug and Lisa from

the Townhouse Art & Frame Center.

Hi, my name is Wilco. I am a 2 to 3-year-old

Pit Bull boy. I bet you're wondering

what a handsome guy like me is doing in a rescue?

Well, I’ll tell you, my life has been ruff - I was found as a stray and 15

pounds underweight with an embedded collar. I was brought to Duplin Animal Control who transferred me to

rescue. I am now in a foster home but the problem is that I want to be the king of the castle. I can’t go to a home with other doggies or kitties BUT my rescue feels it is a must

that I go to a home with kids. I am one of those dogs who lights up when kids are around. I could really use a human

brother or sister to spend my days with. I am incredibly loving with people and kids. I do, however, have one unfor-tunate issue. I do have heartworms and I really need a new foster or better yet an adopter so I can start my treatment. My rescue is providing this for me and once done, I will be as good as new. Please, don't let this change your mind

about meeting me. What’s a few months of treatment to a lifetime of happiness with me? I can not wait to meet you.

Please call Pender Perfect Pets at 910-538-0106 if you would be interested in making me a new member of your

family!

I am sponsored by Caroline Branca, a loyal supporter of Pender Perfect Pets - a Pit Bull, senior and large

breed dog rescue.

Hello up there! I’m Andy, a 1½-year-old boy

who is pos-sibly a mix

of Feist and Chihuahua. My weight is about 25 pounds and I have the cutest un-derbite. I was res-

cued from the shelter when my time was up. Unfortunately, due to

lack of prior medical care, including vaccines, I con-tracted a contagious respiratory infection and had a rocky road back to recovery. I seem to do well with docile fe-

male dogs and I love my people. During my hospital stay, I became very attached to the staff and enjoyed spending time in their laps, resting my head on their

shoulder. My nickname should be Scrappy because that does describe me. I would do well in an adult household

and I am house-trained, crate-trained, neutered, up to date on vaccinations and heartworm negative. I will

make a wonderful companion to a committed household! For adoption info, email Sunburst Foundation at

[email protected] or call 910-622-0011.

My name is Shelley and I

am a 2-year-old Pitbull mix who is looking for a

home. I went in to a county shel-

ter as a stray and quickly be-came a shelter favorite since I

was soooo sweet. The

shelter did all they could to save me and

were able to find me a rescue

where I could go live with a foster

family. I love my foster home because I get to nap on the couch, get lots of love, and play with other dogs. I really love playing with other dogs, even the little ones! I love kids, too, and they love to pet me! I am a really good

girl, I know to go potty outside, and I know some commands. I have been fully vetted, microchipped, and am being treated for heartworms with slow kill treatment. Now, all I need is a home to call my own. If you want to learn more about me,

please call my rescue at 252-531-0744 or email [email protected]. You can see more pics of

me on our Facebook page, 4 Paw LifeSaver Rescue.

This is another story about the precious

gems one can find at an animal shelter!

I’m Kandie and I was only 3-months-old

when I was dumped at an animal shelter. I am now 7-months-old and I have the best personality for

such a young pup. I am a mix of a possi-ble Australian Kelpie and Dachshund. I

should only max out to be around 35-40

pounds. I look like a mini German Shep-herd with beautiful

shades of black and tan. I am such a ham! I love all people, kids included! I love to cuddle and I’m a great walker when you use my gentle lead. I am house and crate-trained. I

have been around other dogs but they tend to intimidate me and right now I am being fostered where I am the only dog in the house. Just to make sure that I will be the best compan-ion, my amazing foster parents even enrolled me in private obedience lessons! It’s a way to ensure I will get every op-

portunity at a good home and life! So if you are interested in me, please visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org.

There you can fill out an application or view other pets up for adoption. If you need an application mailed or faxed, please

Hi, my name is Hambone! I was found as a stray and some

nice people took me in. They gave

me a place to stay until I

could find my old family.

When I didn’t find my old family, they took me to

the vet and I got all my shots, de-

wormed and fixed -- al-

though I did-n’t know I was broken! I tested heartworm negative and am now on prevention. My foster family says that I am a very

sweet boy, probably less than a year old and very much still a playful puppy! They think I am house-trained, I love to

play with any kind of toy or ball and I give lots of wet puppy kisses when I get bathed. Oh yeah, I get along well with other dogs and cats, too! My new family will need to give me some love, patience and training and I’ll be the best companion you could ever ask for. Please call my foster Mom, Jeanna, at 910-524-4925 to learn more about me!

Hi, my name is Hope. I

am a 1-year-old Pit Bull

girl who has been up for adoption for quite awhile.

I have no idea why no

one has called about

me. I am good with

other doggies, I am calm and just want to lay around your house, and I am great on a leash. So why does no one

want me? Let me tell you a little about myself. I was tied to a tree and left alone by my previous owner. Thankfully a nice couple came along and found me. They called my

rescue group who had me spayed and completely vetted - yet here I am months later still with no home of my own. I am in a great foster home with the people who saved me, but it’s still not my own home. I have even been in Paw-

Prints Magazine 3 times already! I am very much ready for my own home. I would be wonderful for a single lady who just wants a friend to go on walks with and to snuggle with.

Please consider adopting me today. I am so ready for a home of my own! I really "Hope" to meet you very soon. Please call Pender Perfect Pets at 910-538-0106 if you

would like to meet me. Oh, I forgot - I would like a home with no kitties please. Thanks!

I am sponsored by loyal supporters of Pender Perfect Pets - a Pit Bull, senior and large breed dog rescue.

Hi, my name is Hazel and I am a super-sweet, calm, beautiful, yellow Lab mix. I am good with other dogs, love to go on walks

and nothing really seems to bother me. I was pulled from the shelter because I was ready to pop with puppies and R.A.C.E. was able to provide me with a foster home. It has been 6-

weeks since their birth and I am spayed and completely vetted and so very ready to find my

forever home. If you want an all-around great dog, then I am the one. Please call R.A.C.E. at 910-547-2839 or you

PENDER PERFECT PETS

My name is Sam. I am a 9 to 10-year-old Walker Hound boy and have had a rough time. I

have been in 2 homes so far and it seems my luck is that something always happens - no fault of my

own and I have to be returned back to rescue. I am an older boy and I am ready to find my furever home. Don't let my age scare you away. I have tons of life and personality. I have a clean bill of health and once you meet me, you wont believe I'm

9 to 10-years-old. I’m very young at heart. I get along with all doggies and cats, I am crate and house-trained, and I have lived with kids before. Please consider adopting an older boy like me! You have no idea how much it would

mean to me. I am ready to be your new best buddy. Please call 910-538-0106 today. I cant wait to meet you!

4 PAW LIFESAVER RESCUE

My name is Clover and I’m a 1-year-old Pointer mix. My own-ers moved and left me at a shel-

ter. When I ran out of time, a rescue came and saved me. I am a really good girl, I know commands, I walk well on a

leash and I’m house and crate-trained. I am in a foster home with kids of all ages and they

love to play with me! I also live with a cat, but it doesn't really like to play. I do well with other dogs and I am fully vetted, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea prevention. To give me a forever

home, contact my rescue at [email protected] or 252-531-0744. You can see more pics of me on our Rescue’s Facebook page, 4 Paw LifeSaver Rescue.

We’re Norman and T-Bird. We are purebred Javanese

who no longer have a home. T-Bird was shown at cat

shows as a kitten, but he did not like participating, so our

owner stopped showing him. Norman is extremely

shy, and hovers next to T-Bird for everything. We sleep together, play together, and are inseparable. Both of us love to be brushed, and stroked, and make the BEST lap

kitties. We purr loudly, and love to huddle together in a kitty bed and bask in the sun. We are 5-years-old, vaccinated, FIV negative and neutered. Please consider us for your

next family addition because we prefer to be adopted together. Please call 910-623-4306.

ONSLOW PARTNERS FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

We are Sadie and Ralph and we were found to-

gether on a lonely coun-try road by our foster

mom and dad. We have been to the vet, are cur-rent on everything and

come with a certificate for our spay and neuter. We play well with other dogs and cats and are such a very happy pair. We are very well mannered and walk right by your side.

Please give us a chance to love you. Please contact our Onslow County Partners for Animal Welfare foster mom, Missy, at 586-615-3527.

PHOENIX LANDING FOUNDATION

My name is Petunia. I am a 2-year-old, brightly colored female Sun Conure. I would love to find a long-term home and family who will appreciate me and give me

lots of love and attention. I eat a healthy diet of Harrison's pellets, grains, and fresh fruits and veg-

gies. Like all Sun Conures, I enjoy a daily bath. I have no

health problems, am a good eater and am very active. I need to be in a home that has no dogs, as I

had numerous bad experiences in the past. Won't you consider making me part of your family? To adopt or foster me or another of the many parrots awaiting homes, please contact Phoenix Landing at www.phoenixlanding.org (click

on the link for adoption/foster), send an email to us at [email protected] or call 866-749-5634.

COLUMBUS COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER

My name is Weasel because of my eyes and the way I like to sneak into everything looking for treats. I am

one of the many senior dogs here at the shelter needing a quiet home. I love everyone and I am very easy- going and gentle. I am great on a leash and love easy strolls around yard. I am house-trained and get along well with cats and

other dogs. This is Spaniel. He was very lucky that the shelter found him and his brothers. They are 4-month-old Rottie mixes who love to play and have fun.

They walk nicely on a leash and are fast learners. If you are looking for young or

mature best friends, please call Columbus County Animal Shelter at 910-641-3945!

Our shelter is located at 288 Legion Drive in Whiteville.

FUREVER FRIENDS ANIMAL RESCUE

COASTAL ANIMAL RESCUE EFFORT (C.A.R.E.)

I love to play with toys, chase strings

and investigate new things. But I also like to curl up for a good nap! If you are inter-ested in adopting me,

please see the re-quired specifications and adoption applica-tion at carewilming-

ton.org. Please call 910-256-2624 with any questions.

ONSLOW COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER

Hi, my name is Tamera (A067911) and I’m 10-months-old. Aren’t I the most gorgeous feline you’ve ever seen? Not

only am I gorgeous, but I come with great feline qualities which include the following: I’m litter-

box trained, I am current on shots, I tested negative for Feline Leukemia, and I’m a

pure treasure to hold on your lap. I keep my fur in great shape with my sandpaper tongue and have no problem helping you with your grooming needs as well. I’m very congenial and loving. Come on by the Onslow County

Animal Shelter and you’ll certainly want to take me home with you on the spot! See you soon! To adopt or for more information about me, please call 910-455-0182. The shel-

ter is located at 244 Georgetown Road in Jacksonville.

PET FRIENDS OF DUPLIN COUNTY

My name is Calypso and I'm a gorgeous dilute Calico with no

tail. I'm a small, young cat who was sick at the shelter. I was taken to the vet, treated for stomatitis

and had to have some of my teeth pulled. I'm feeling great now and need a forever home. I'm a very affectionate cat and I love being picked up and held. I'm also spayed, up to date on shots and tested negative for Feline Leuke-mia and FIV. If you can give me a second chance, please

call 910-271-3101.

PAWSITIVE PARTNERS PRISON PROGRAM

Pssst! Wanna hear a secret? You won’t believe this, but I’m still available for adoption! My

name is Patsy and I’m a 2-year-old Jack Russell/Cattle Dog mix who has graduated from training at Pender Correctional through the Pawsitive Partners Prison

Program. I was dropped at the shelter when my family moved and, thank goodness, Monty’s Home rescued me. I’ve been

spayed and am up to date on all my shots and microchipped. So with all that and 8 weeks of obe-dience training, what more could

you ask for? For more information, call 910-297-1338 or email [email protected]. Better yet, cut to the chase

and fill out an application at www.montyshome.org.

Hello, my name is Carlos. I’m a 2-year-old, male Chihuahua, Mexican Hairless and Pug mix.

My size is very small but my charm and loving personality are enormous. I am a very gentle boy who loves taking

walks on a leash, playing with toys and cuddling with my fam-

ily. I am healthy, heartworm negative, house and crate-

trained and a real sweetheart who will melt your heart. If you are interested in adopting me,

please call Furever Friends Animal Rescue at 910-383-2100 for more info.

WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!?

Look how adorable I am. See how

well behaved I am with 8-weeks of training in the

Pawsitive Partners Prison Program.

Watch how good I am with people, kids, dogs and

cats...why on earth do I not have a

home? My name is Patsy and I’ve been happy play-ing at Dog Club of

Wilmington for over two months

now. (You can watch me play on their live webcam at www.dogclubofwilmington.com) But I really want to be part

of a family. Can you give me a chance? I’m about 2-years-old and am a Jack Russell/Cattle Dog mix. I have all my shots, am on heartworm prevention and am micro-chipped. I come with my own crate, toys, training info and

even some food! To adopt me, call Monica at 910-297-1338 or email [email protected]. You can also fill

out an application at www.montyshome.org.

Thank you to Connie and her sidekick Addie Bell for sponsoring me! They are great friends and supporters

of Monty’s Home rescues!

My name is Blondie and I am a Jack

Russell/Dachs-

hund mix. I found my

way to Paw’s Place

through Brunswick

County Animal

Services. They

found me wandering the streets and I was not in good shape.

They think that I was on my own for quite a while. Since my arrival here, I’ve put on some weight, my fur is a lot nicer and I’m learning to appreciate people instead of

being fearful of them. I’m about 2-years-old, up to date on all of my shots, have been spayed and, best of all, I

am heartworm negative! I was in a foster home and I am house-trained, but it would still be a good idea to crate-train me for a little while when you first take me home. I

do get along with other dogs, but I also like to be the boss. Do you have room in your heart and home for me? Please call the shelter at 910-845-7297 and let’s arrange

a get-together!

I am sponsored by Grace Harrington. Thank you!

I’m Dixie and I was brought to Paw’s Place in the winter with my two sisters. We all found homes, but mine couldn’t keep me. Their family situation changed and they brought me back to Paw’s Place. I’m about 10-months-old – still a puppy – and I’ve had a growth spurt. I’m very tall for my

age! Paw’s Place has made sure that I’m up to date on my shots, I’m heartworm negative and have been spayed. Right now I’m a little thin at 30 pounds – we think that I should be about 40 pounds when I’m full grown. I really

love people and especially kids. I do have a lot of energy so a family with a fenced-in yard would be just perfect for me. Why not stop by Paw’s Place to see me! If you have

questions or need driving directions, call the shelter at 910-845-7297.

I am sponsored by State Farm Rob Cutting Agency in

memory of Molly.

SCHNAUZER RESCUE OF THE CAROLINAS CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE

The name is Brady and I’m looking for a new Bunch… Mike, Carol, Greg, Peter,

Bobby, Marsha, Jan & Cindy done left me high and dry

(names have been changed, but you get the picture)! At the age of 9, I’m proud to be a card-carrying member of

the AARH – ‘American Asso-ciation of Retired Hounds.’ Though I am a little older, I am also a lot wiser. My ‘get up and go’ may have gotten a little

slow but I am a joy to be around. I like people and other dogs and would love to have a furever home! Fill out an online application at www.cbhr.com and tell them you are

interested in the most handsome black and tan Basset you have ever seen - Brady! For more info, call 919-708-4247.

If you are looking for another canine to keep your current

“fur-kid” company, then I may be the answer to your prayers! I’m Jack, a 5-year-old Schnau-zer who is crate-trained, house-

trained and neutered. I even know how to sit, stay, speak,

and crate-up! I love other dogs and I even get along well with cats. Since I do love com-panionship, I would do best in a home with another dog or with someone who is home the majority of the time. So if

you are looking for a special guy who will be your best friend, visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org.

There you can fill out an application or view other pets up for adoption. If you need an application mailed or faxed,

please call 781-799-4272.

COASTAL CAROLINA BOSTON TERRIER RESCUE

My name is Cassie and I’m looking for a home

where I will find a “seeing eye” person or dog to

help me through a life of playing, eating and snug-gling. I suffered an injury

resulting in the loss of both eyes so now I see the world through my

nose and ears. I haven’t let this slow me down at all and love to play with my foster brothers. I need to be in a home with canine companionship and with humans who can continue my training. In return, I promise to give you snuggles, kisses and protection from cold toes. For more

information, please contact CCBTR at [email protected] or call 252-633-0987. Visit us online at www.ccbtr.org.

SHAR-PEI RESCUE OF VIRGINIA

Hi, my name is Colby! I am having so much fun at my foster home. I love my new Kong toy

and enjoy going for walks! I have a foster sister, Rosie, that I

really like, too! We have so much fun playing. I am already neutered and vaccinated, so I am ready to go to my “furever” home. Are you looking for a

sweet, playful boy to join your family? Well then, look no fur-ther and contact Shar-Pei Res-

cue of Virginia to learn more about me! To see more pic-tures of me or to fill out an application, check out my profile at www.sharpeirescueofva.org. There is also a cute video of Rosie and I playing! You can also call 609-494-0020 or email [email protected] for more information.

GREAT DANE RESCUE ALLIANCE

My name is Tanya and I'm a beautiful 5-year-old blue girl.

I'm very sweet and love atten-tion. My foster mom says I'm not extremely active, but I do love to play outside and go on

walks. I am house-trained, know basic obedience com-

mands and walk well on a leash. I get along nicely with my foster sister most of the time, but would probably be happier in home with a brother. I prefer

not to be left alone, but I don't destroy things when left alone. I do tolerate my feline foster brother, but we don’t

hang out together much. I have not been tested with young children yet. I would love a home to call my own! Email

[email protected] or call 704-559-4121.

BOSTON TERRIER TEAM OF THE CAROLINAS

Meet Carly and Marly! We are an

adorable pair of 2-year-old sisters

who are small girls, very sweet, and

very lively. We are deaf but that does not slow us down at all because we are very smart! We both love to

cuddle and kiss and we are good with the female dogs in our foster home. Double the fun! Ask Boston Terrier Res-cue Team of the Carolinas about us today! Please email

[email protected] or call us at 828-778-2045.

Hi, my name is Bella. I

am a 2-year-old Boxer mix. I am not your

typical dog as I have the personality of an old, laid-back dog. I am

sweet, loving (I am a cud-dler) and I am incredi-bly calm. I like other dogs and

don't mind kitties either. I am house-trained, crate-trained and I am wonderful on a leash. Did I mention I have a

wonderful personality for a home with kids? Please, won’t you consider adopting me? Please call my rescue, Pender

Perfect Pets, at 910-538-0106.

I am sponsored by my foster mommy, Betsy Throne Nixon, and her family in memory of Delilah.
