No late entries will be accepted. Exhibit Identification: For each entry received, an “Entry Ticket” is issued. The number on the “Entry Ticket” identifies the exhibitor and class and, therefore, must be securely attached to the exhibit when it is delivered to the Arts & Crafts Pavilion. No names are to be written on the face of the entry ticket however, the exhibitor’s name may be written on the back of the ticket to facilitate identification when entries are collected after the show. Handy Hint: Some schools use coloured stickers to code their students’ exhibits Exhibit Prize Collection: No prize money, trophies, award certificates, etc. will be allowed to be collected until after the show when they will be available from the Chief Steward in the Arts & Crafts Pavilion. Collection time will be between 3.30pm and 4.30pm on Sunday, 30 th October. For any Sections where entries are exhibited in the open, e.g. Art, prize tickets will not be left with the entry but will be held by the Chief Steward. No exhibits or prizes may be collected before 3.30pm. Special arrangements can be made for the bulk collection of school entries before 10.00am on Monday, 1 st November. SECTION P - NEEDLEWORK, FANCYWORK & CRAFT Judging: Wednesday, 26th October at 9:00am. Arts and Crafts Pavilion – enter from Hyland Street Exhibits: To be delivered to the Showgrounds Art & Craft Pavilion, Hyland Street entrance 9.00am - 12 noon Tuesday 25th October unless other Arrangements have been made. Conditions: All work in this Section must be new, unwashed and the bona fide work of the exhibitor. No exhibit will be allowed if it has won 1st prize at the previous show of this Society and the exhibit must have been completed within two years of the closing date. Exception. RICH FRUIT CAKE 1340 2011 RICH FRUIT CAKE COMPETITION (8” must be in a square tin no larger than 20cm, must have square corners) RECIPE: The following recipe is compulsory for all entrants Here’s What You Need: 250g (8oz) Sultanas 250g (8oz) Chopped Raisins 250g (8oz) Currants 125g (4oz) Chopped Mixed Peel 90g (3oz) Chopped Red Glace Cherries 90g (3oz) Chopped Blanched Almonds 1/3 cup Sherry or Brandy 250g (8oz) Plain Flour 60g (2oz) Self-Raising Flour 1/4 teaspoon grated Nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon ground Ginger 1/2 teaspoon ground Cloves 250g (8oz) butter 250g (8oz) soft brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon lemon essence OR finely grated lemon rind 1/2 teaspoon almond essence 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence 4 large eggs Here’s What You Do: Mix together all the fruits and nuts and sprinkle with the sherry or brandy. Cover and leave for at least 1 hour, but preferably overnight. Sift together the flours and spices. Cream together the butter and sugar with the essences. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then alternately add the fruit and flour mixtures. Mix thoroughly. The mixture should be stiff enough to support a wooden spoon. Place the mixture into a prepared tin no larger than 20 cm (8”, must be in a square tin no larger than 20cm, must have square corners) and bake in a slow oven for approximately 3 1/2 to 4 hours. Allow the cake to cool in the tin. Note: To ensure uniformity and depending upon the size, it is suggested that the raisins be snipped into 2 or 3 pieces, cherries into 4-6 pieces and almonds crosswise into 3-4 pieces.
