PATTERSON VETERINARY UNIVERSITY PVU EXECUTIVE SPEAKERS Gary Ackerman, DVM Dr. Ackerman consults with health care professionals nationwide on taxation, real estate, exit strategy and retirement planning issues. He earned his DVM from the University of Georgia in 1981. After 20 years of multi-practice ownership in Virginia, Dr. Ackerman now assists professionals in planning business and real estate sale transitions, seeking to maximize the client’s sale value and minimize taxes related to their investments and business transitions. He is securities licensed and assists clients in structuring lasting retirement income portfolios from tax-deferred investments while prioritizing family considerations. He is real estate licensed and regularly works with veterinary accountants, attorneys, real estate agents, financial advisors, lenders and business brokers in 1031 exchanges and business transitions, advising in over $300 million of tax advantaged transactions in the last 10 years. Michelle Guercio-Winter, CVT, CVPM Michelle is an education development specialist with Patterson Veterinary. She is the co-founder of Patterson Veterinary University and the primary content creator for its courses. Michelle brings to her classroom and speaking a passion for the business of veterinary medicine backed by more than 20 years of experience in practice. Her goal is to strengthen the profession through the sharing of knowledge, tools and resources that have a proven track record. Michelle’s passion is building systems and strategies that build the business of veterinary medicine. Jennifer Hock, DEL Jennifer Hock, DEL works for Patterson Veterinary as a leader development specialist and teaches the PVU Executive series (both small animal and equine). In addition, Jennifer speaks nationally and internationally on the topics of veterinary practice management and leadership. She has 16 years of veterinary practice management experience with an overall 20-plus years in the industry. Jennifer’s experience and strengths are operational streamlining, change management, and leader and leadership development. Additionally, she has consulted with many practices and veterinarians over the course of her career. Jennifer holds a BS degree in organizational leadership, an MS degree in strategic leadership and a doctorate in executive leadership (DEL).

Edward Guiducci, JD Ed is a veterinary business attorney representing veterinarians in a variety of practice transactions throughout the United States. For over 23 years, he’s enjoyed advising veterinarians on the best legal structure for their practice, merging of veterinary practices, buying and selling of veterinary practices, and structuring associate agreements, owner agreements and associate buy-in agreements. He is a frequent speaker at veterinary conferences and is co-author of Beyond the Successful Veterinary Practice – Succession Planning and other Legal Issues (Blackwell Press, 2001). He is a past president of VetPartners.

Glenn Hanner, CPA, CVA Glenn is the managing partner of Hanner & Associates and has over 30 years of experience in helping clients navigate the complex world of tax and accounting. In addition to being a CPA, Glenn is a Certified Information Technology Professional and a Certified Valuation Analyst, and is enrolled to practice before the Internal Revenue Service. His passion is helping veterinarians create long-term value from their practice and achieve their professional goals. Glenn leads a team of 20 CPAs and staff who together at Hanner & Associates serve more than 80 companion and large animal hospitals across the country. He is the co-chair of the VetPartners Valuation Council and speaks to veterinarians across the country on practice valuation issues. Glenn is co-author of the American Animal Hospital Association book Selling Your Practice.

Denise Tumblin, CPADenise is the owner/president of Wutchiett Tumblin and Associates, which provides management, valuation and transition services to independently owned veterinary practices across the U.S. She authors the Benchmarks Well-Managed Practice® Study, and is the co-founder and facilitator of the WellMP® Management Groups (companion animal and companion/equine). Denise speaks regularly at national and regional meetings on valuation and management issues and has authored numerous articles for Veterinary Economics and Trends. Denise is a graduate of The Ohio State University and serves on the Veterinary Economics editorial advisory board and the VetPartners board, Valuation Council and Career Development SIG. She is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Ohio Society of CPAs, the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts, AAHA, the American Association of Human-Animal Bond Veterinarians and the Capital Area Humane Society.

Trey Cutler, JD Trey is a graduate of Duke University and the University of Texas School of Law. He has practiced business law since 1987, focusing primarily on veterinary practice matters for the last 20 years. He previously served as a partner of a Dallas-based law firm and as general counsel of National PetCare Centers before establishing The Cutler Law Firm in 2002. Focused upon the well-being of veterinary clients and the profession, the Cutler Law Firm is devoted entirely to assisting veterinarians and veterinary practices across the country with transactional and business law matters.
