ANNUAL DAY REPORT (2011 – 2012)
It gives me great pleasure to present the Annual Report for the year
academic 2011 – 2012. The brief annual report is now presented before you.
.
"The first requisite of success is the ability to apply your physical and
mental energies to one problem without growing weary."
The college has grown in leaps and bounds in this short span of time. Under
the able guidance of the correspondent Rev. Bro Arockia raj and Principal
Dr. J. Gnanpushpam, the college now functions with a strength of 1684
students with 7 under graduate courses and 2 post graduate courses.
The college has excellent classrooms, labs, well-equipped library, and
auditorium, open air theatre, editing room, recording theatre, canteen and
extensive grounds for sports and games. A new building is now under
construction with 32 class rooms, conference hall and library.
The College reopened on the 16th for the II and III years.
The college reopened for the first years on 29th June with an orientation
programme.
Dr.John Morais, former principal, Guru Nanak College was the chief guest
for the investiture ceremony. The elected office bearers for this year are

DECENNIAL CELEBRATIONS
To mark the completion of ten years of success, celebrations were held and
many dignitaries graced the occasion with their presence.
Dr. Senthivelan I.P.S, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Adyar was the Chief
Guest for the freshers day. He insisted the students to understand the value
of education and to be committed to achieve their goals.
On INDEPENDENCE DAY Competitions were held on the role of youth
in the nation’s development.
TEACHER’S DAY was celebrated by the student council that made the day
memorable.
For the 11th ANNUAL SPORTS MEET – Mrs. Venkatadri was the chief
guest for the completed events and distributed prizes.
And on the day of sports Mr. C.V.Sunny, Former Indian Basket ball Team
Captain, graced the occasion and distributed the prizes. The meet started
with a Colourful march past followed by dance and aerobics.

MEMORIAL CUP for Overall runners. Tinson Joseph V.J of B.B.A final

category and Mary Jana of B.SC Viscom department bagged BRO.BERGIN
MEMORIAL CUP for Best Athlete in Women category.

First time an INTER SCHOOL ATHLETIC MEET was conducted and
19 schools from all over Chennai participated.
Rev. Fr. Siiby Mathew SDB Principal, St.Mary’s A. I. Hr. Sec. School
Chennai was the Chief Guest and distributed the prizes
The Overall WINNERS were St. Patrick AIHSS and runners Sacred Heart
School.
The College celebrated Correspondent’s Feast Day
Rev. Fr. Xavier Arul presided over the christmas celebration and delivered
the Christmas message. Students staged a skit on joy of Christmas
conveying the real meaning of caring and sharing.
The Shamrocks led by Mr. Daniel Chalke, Asst.Prof of Management
participated at the Inter-Collegiate Christmas along with students and won
the first place in sing the season competition with a cash award of Rs 50000.
They also participated in the Hindustan College choir competition and won a
cash prize of 15000.
Pongal was celebrated with full zeal and enthusiasm by the management,
staff and students. As part of the celebration, a kolam competition was
conducted on the theme “ sangakalla illakiyam”.
On REPUBLIC DAY speeches were given by students on India in the
present millennium.
A special Message was given by Brother Arockiaraj, the Director and
Correspondent on founder day and a book authored by Mr.Suresh Babu,
Asst. Prof, Dept of Commerce, on financial services was released by our
Principal.
All clubs and ASSOCIATIONS brought out innovative programs and
student-oriented activities.
Dr. Ganesh, Asst Prof of English, Madras Christian College inaugurated the
Golden Triangle Dramatics Club. A workshop on Meta-theatre was also held
to introduce the students to the Art of Theatrics. He also released the
Department Newsletter VISTAS which was also published online as a
blogspot. The Department also published the Second Edition of the
Grammar workbook.
Ms. Meenakshi of II BA received scholarship from Image Animation Studio.
They won the Overall Championship in the event Parnassus and also
attended national conference conducted by Dr. MGR Janaki College of Arts
and Science.
Dr. R. Selvagama_______ was the Chief Guest and distributed prizes for
the competitions held during the Tamil Literary Fest. An International
Conference on “Ilakkiyangal Kaatum Thozhilgal was inaugurated by Thiru
Nattham R. Vishwanathan, Minister Electricity Board Tamil Nadu and
many other dignitaries participated.
Prerna hindi association conducted interdepartmental quiz competition for
the students and many students participated in various inter collegiate
competitions and won many prizes.
Students of French association participated in various inter
collegiate competitions.

ADZAP and SOFTWARE DEBUGGING was also conducted.
TECHFEST 2K11 - A STATE LEVEL SEMINAR was conducted. Dr. R.
Ramanujam, Institute of mathematical science, CIT campus and
Dr. Venaktesh Raman Institute of mathematical science, CIT
campus were the distinguished chief guests and speakers of the
day.
EDAPTcomputer science assocaition conducted an inter departmental paper
presentation event was judged by Mr.Manigandan, Asst Prof, computer
science department Sri Sankara Arts and Science College.
An interdepartment debate and pictionary competitions was also conducted.
Students participated in youth seminar conducted by TERI on “values and
Ethics 21st century”. Husssin K and Vishal Navalgaris participated in the
international
YUVA meet at New delhi on “ Conserving global commons: transforming
knowledge into action. Li Young and Vishal Navalgaris also participated in
“ International student energy summit at TERI University new delhi
conducted by ISEEESA(institute for sustainable energy, environment and
economy, Calgary, Alberta, Canada). The department released its
first newsletter and CD in the name BYSTREET.
Department of computer applications and computer science conducted their
annual inter collegiate events GOOGLE 2012 Comet commerce
association initiated its events with Compark Exhibition highlited
banking and corporate world Paper Presentation was conducted the
chief Guest for the was Mr. R. Sooriakumar enriched students with valuable
information and motivated the students.
Indistrial Visit was organized by IIL to Port trust
EDP was conducted to enlighten students about the opportunities
open to budding entrepreneurs. Chief Guest of the day was
Mr.M.S.Subramanian, Ex-DGM, NSIC,TSC

participated in various inter collegiate competitions conducted at various city
colleges and won many prizes.
Dept of commerce shift II organized an interdepartment competition NOA
fest 2012. Capt. V.J. Pushpakumar, founder and director of Indian Institute
of Logistics and Mr. Janarthanan Ethirajulu, BPO operation manger, Cape
Gemini Business services (India) ltd inaugurated the exhibition and presided
over the function.
Zenith management association CONDUCTED paper presentation and
Mr.R. Sooriyakumar, motivator and soft skills trainer judged the event.
Students were taken on a industrial visit to Chennai port. Junior achievement
program was conducted by Fr. Freddi the programme highlighted on the
opportunities available in industries and ERP.
To assist the students in higher education, seminar by various b-schools
were arranged.

YUVA meet at new delhi, british council.
Students were selected by various companies like DELL, TCS,HCL in
placement programme.
Arun kumar of II BBA presented a paper at a national level seminar
organized by Vivekananda college, mylapore. Reni George and Ashiqua
participated in HR meet at WCC college.
Department of CORPORATE SECRETARYSHIP conducted an inter
department competition which was judged by

VERSATILE BUSINESS SCHOOL, Chennai
Department of Corporate Secretaryship along with Department of Business
Administration organized seminar on “Making Sense out of Sensex”. The
Resource person V. Balasubramaniam, Secretary, Madras Stock Exchange.
Corpship Magazine was released by Rev. Bro. Arokiaraj, Correspondent and
first copies received by our principal Dr.J.Gnanapushpam.They won 1st
place in state level leo meet “zeal to excel” on 3rd march 2012 at meenakshi
college, Chennai. Students performed on the theme “PUBLIC NUSENSE”
and won appreciation.
Industrial Visits Organized to times of India, HAtsun Company and Port Trust Students also participated in various Seminars The department of commerce, management studies and corporate
secretaryship conducted masobatra an inter collegiate meet. Dr. R.
Rangaraj, Head Department of Commerce University of Madras was the
chief guest for the day. The overall winners were M.O.P and the runners
WCC, Chennai. The Magazine of masobatra was released
The department of VISUAL COMMUNICATION arranged for Various
workshop and events which were conducted by emagic animation studio,
ZICA, times of India, talent hunt, vijay tv neeya nana, apple tidels, apps
development using user friendly softwares. Chimera conducted a one day
intercollegiate competition and 12 colleges participated Mr.Muthukumar
fashion and advertising photographer inaugurated click 2012 and was the
chief guest. Mr. gopinath the famous cinematographer graced the valediction
and short film contest. St. Thomas college won the over all winners trophy.
The dept of SOCIAL WORK conducted an International
Conference on “Current Trends in Professional Social Work The
chief guest of the day was Shri. Kaliyamurthy, IPS, Former
Superintendent of Police, Trichy.Dr.ShankarGanesh, and other
dignitaries were present.
A rural camp for first years was arranged to Pathiri Village in
Thiruvannamalai District,
Students underwent group learning and a ‘we feeling’ was cultivated by
organizing several social programmes including eye camp, medical camp,
laying roads, conducting sports events for children in the community,
creating awareness among village people on burning social issues.Students
of MSW visited various NGO’s, hospitals, manufacturing and IT industries
as part of their field trip. Students also participated in a reality walk and got
an exposure on the problems faced by slum dwellers.Students participated in
a seminar on Challenges for an HR professional in the industry.
INTERCOLLEGIATE WINNERS (ACADEMIC): This year students
have performed amazingly well in various intercollegiate competitions
conducted by various city colleges and won fame and laurels for the college.
MENTORING SYSTEM: Academic Performance of our students is
closely monitored so that students achieve their prime goal of graduating.
Club Reports:
The NSS unit of our college with the joint collaboration of
University of Madras and Puthia Thalaimurai media organized
Winter camp at Tiruvanmiyur Kuppam. Students participated in
State level NSS Camp was held at Tiruvalluvar.
Students participated in various programmes like tree plantation campaign,
Gandhi Jayanthi celebration, heart walk 2011 at besant nagar, south zone
level cultural youth festival at madras university, displayed exhibits on green
marketing , women issues and cleanliness at Chennai trade centre.
ROTARACT
300 students had donated blood during the blood donation camp The club
also organized for eye camp, seminar on health awareness for women, police
self defense seminar. Students rendered service as scribe.
LEO CLUB
Women awareness program was conducted on issues related breast cancer”
and the health. The speakers were Dr.Selvi (breast cancer specialist),
Mrs.Sadhana (dietician) ,Mrs.Renshi (winner of kalpana chawala award).
As part of Christmas day celebration, representatives from MOHAN
Foundation were invited to explain about the importance of organ donation.
350 students of our college pledged for organ donor card.
Mr. Balan, M.D. Madura Travels, was the Chief Guest for the
day. Mr.Nandagopal , District Governor, Lions international was also
present.
YRC AND RED RIBBON CLUBS
As a part of social welfare activity,the club joined with LEO CLUB and
conducted interdepartmental mime competition on the theme “Say No To
Drugs” .
CONSUMER CLUB:
An exhibition on consumer awareness was organized in association with
Citizen Consumer Club. Mr. Vijayan, Deputy commissioner dept of civil
supplies was the chief guest. He addressed the students on latest updation in
consumer protection act and also inaugurated the exhibition. Mrs.
Vijayatghilagam, Co ordinator consumer advise cell addressed on the
resposibilites of consumer and features of consumer club. Many government
offices like BIS, HPC, AIDS Control society, PCRA, dept of drug control,
dept of civil supply, and labour department participated. Students from city
colleges like Loyola college, anna university, Kaniga Parameswar, ethiraj
college, Vivekananda college participated and displayed their exhibits.
Around 1500 students from many neighboring schools visited the exhibition.
Prof. Parthiban V.N Asst Professor, Ramakrishna mission, Vivekananda
College, Maylapore, Chennai legal entities related to consumer products.
CIMA (CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT
ACCOUNTING)
CIMA conducted an intra college group discussion event judged by Mr.
Ramprakash, member of CIMA, Chartered Accountants of India,
management consultant and founder director of Capri Accounting and
professional services.
Students participated in a mini case study competition at Stella Maris.
An interdepartmental mini case study was conducted and Mr. V.
Balasubramanian, CFA judged the event.
Retired Justice Arul Raj judged a debate on LOKPAL BILL.
Regional representative of CIMA south Ms. Althea Paul conducted a career
development programme.
PHOENIX FOREIGN STUDENTS ASSOCIATION
Dr. Chitra Krishnan, Professor and head department of French and other
foreign languages from University of Madras presided over a cultural
programme to highlight the culture of the country Bhutan.
The enviro club of the college helps in maintaining the campus clean and
environment friendly.
Mrs.Mallika IPS inaugurated the civil service information cell and
delivered a motivational talk on why civil service is important for the
student society.
Around 600 students benefited out of the tamil nadu post matric scholarship
and an amount of RS 12 lakhs was disbursed.
ENDOWMENTS GIVEN BY THE MANAGEMENT/ UNIVERSITY
The Management has been gracious to give full and partial waiver of fees for
deserving students based on their economic status and Few students
benefited through MUFES.
STAFF ORIENTATION PROGRAMME
The academic year commenced with an orientation programme for staff.
Mr. Anto Vincent, Trainer of the Trainers, Principal-Savant Community
College, and Ex-President, HR, Ford India Ltd., was the resource person.
His focus was on the need to keep one’s self esteem high by valuing yourself
for what you are, asking yourself “ who am I”, by identifying yourself as
God’s image and by believing in yourself.
STAFF ORIENTATION PROGRAMME attendance
STUDENT PLACEMENT
This year, around 20 companies made 125 job offers to the final year
students This year witnessed an overall increase in the number of offers and
the number of students got placed in various companies by at least 40% over
last year. Both domestic and international companies hired Patrician
students for their desired locations in key positions. The current placement
season interestingly saw hiring by Patrician alums as well. The Patrician
alumni network comprises of 457 students, wherein they get updates about
job offers through placement information cell, a group launched and
instituted in FACEBOOK which has a direct connection with alumni and the
Placement officer of Patrician College. Apart from the placement statistics
this report also gives you a snapshot of the placement season 2011-2012.The
following companies campus recruitment drives The Hindu, TCS,Hot Bread,
HCL, Landmarvel, Wipro, Infosys, DELL, CSS Corp, Cap Gemini.
St. Patrick’s Feast Day
Feast day was celebrated on 17th March. St. Patrick is the Patron Saint of the
Patrician Community of Brothers.
Graduation Day:
Graduation day was presided over by His worshipful Mayor Thiru Saidai
Duraisamy.

A total of 428 candidates took the university examinations out of which 321
successfully passed out . The college has secured an overall pass percentage
of 78.7%. 79.42% of students secured a first class pass while many students
have graduated with distinction.
FUTURE PLANS: The college development program includes NAAC
Accreditation, Autonomy, Center of Excellence for Commerce and
Management, Research Endeavors and Certificate Courses.
CONCLUSION:
We place on record our gratitude to the management for their continuous
support of all developments on campus under the Directorship of Rev Bro
Arockiaraj and our Principal Madam Dr.J.Gnanapushpam . Thank You.
