Over the past 40 years, Patricia Gilliam has carried

out a huge variety of design projects both private

and commercial. Starting in Lausanne at the age

of 19 she was involved in the total re-build and

refurbishment of a large penthouse apartment.

On return to the UK, encouraged by the fact that

friends recognised her sense of style and colour in her

own home, she set up a showroom and workrooms,

initially in Stratford upon Avon and subsequently

in the Cotswolds. The business evolved rapidly and

she was soon designing the interiors of numerous

private homes and showhouses for Estate Agents

and Developers from Leicester to South Cotswolds.

A very prestigious client was the Hilton Hotel Group

and Patricia decorated the Manager’s apartment and

several major suites in the London Hilton on Park

Lane, as well as renewing most of the furniture in the

front reception area. At one point, every voile curtain

in the Hilton Hotel came from her workroom!

A very favourite and fulfilling undertaking in her

career was to assist in the total redecoration and

refurbishment of the Salcombe Hotel and then to

supply and make up all the soft furnishings. Other

projects, both commercial and private, followed in

Salcombe and the surroundings.

Patricia describes her style as ‘soft, classical and

uncluttered’ and prides herself on being able to

achieve a warm, friendly and calm atmosphere.

If required she will do a complete re-decoration

with relatively little input from the clients, but

much prefers the client’s total involvement.

She loves working with antique furniture and

traditional pieces, but is equally happy to follow

more modern trends and seek out interesting

modern furnishings. No project is too small, from

re-covering a favourite sofa to the full furnishing and

decoration of a home or hotel.

Over the past 25 years Tricia has been successfully engaged

by my companies, based in Devon, to work with our clients advising from the outset on the selection of colour schemes, all types of flooring and curtains both in Pubs, Hotels, Holiday Parks and private homes.

● A preliminary analysis of potential costs and timing. The charge for this will depend on the size and structure of the work and will be discussed with you at the initial visit.

● Appointed contractors who will carry out the required fitting work.

● A ‘no project too small’ approach. We are happy to make up one pair of curtains or advise on one floor covering.

● The supply of furniture, lamps, fittings, curtains, blinds, cushions, fitted carpets, rugs, trompe l’oile, paint effects and lots more (usually at less cost than from a retailer).

Patricia was married at 18 and her first home was in Lausanne, Switzerland. This was a happy place to be as she was educated in France and Belgium for a large part of her life and speaks fluent French. After three years the family moved back to the UK and settled in Stratford upon Avon. The family always had a house in Salcombe and Patricia is no stranger to the South Hams. Juggling family commitments, several house moves and running the business became second nature. Patricia always gives her clients her full time and attention. She has now moved to Salcombe and wishes to spend the rest of her working life in the South West, but with regular visits back to Warwickshire to continue with ongoing projects and see old friends.

Patricia has three daughters, four grandchildren and a black Labrador! She enjoys sailing, power boating, skiing, swimming, walking, reading and loves entertaining and cooking for friends.
