drinking water.

In addition, they were too poor to

send their two children to school.

• Around the world, a total of 114 million children do not get even a basic education.

• In some deeply impoverished nations less than half of the children are in primary school and under 20 percent go to secondary school.

Parbati’s husband pulled a rickshaw as their only source of income — earning

less than $1 a day.

• Over 1/6 of humanity lives in extreme poverty or on less than $1/day.

• Most living in extreme poverty are unable to engage in meaningful and sustainable income generating activities.

Parbati’s husband became ill with Tuberculosis.

• Over 1.5 million people worldwide die of TB each year.

• Each year, approximately 300 to 500 million people are infected with malaria. Approximately three million people die as a result.

• Everyday HIV/AIDS kills 6,000 people.

Parbati was forced to pull the rickshaw for survival.

As a result, Parbati & her family could

only eat a meal of rice once a day.

Bandhan helped Parbati’s husband obtain the necessary care to recover

from his TB.

With their extra income Parbati’s husband purchased a new rickshaw.
