But what about Church??? Will it ever be like it was??? Will we be able to return to what many of us had come to know as that warm, comfortable gathering of our “Church family”??? Can we, or maybe more accurately, WILL we ever have that sense of community that gathered on the Lord’s day, in His house, to have all the “Smells and Bells” of corporate worship, where we enjoyed the feel of the bass notes of that wonderful pipe organ as our brother, Dale, blessed us with his God-given talent, presenting us with sacred music chosen specifically to enhance our gathering together in our Father’s house where we evoke the Lord’s name so as to have Him join us and bless us with His presence as we worship Him with our sacrifice of praise, and bore our gifts, our praise, our God-given time to thank Him for seeing us through this thing called, “Life”??? Or will the people for whom Christ died, who have been given a time away from traditional public gatherings find it hard to return? Will they see that they are so many other things that can be done that are easier…simpler…quicker…more convenient than making that “Lord’s Day” pilgrimage to that other place, where one has to prepare to meet God, rather than have Him provided over the “Inter-web”…in a medium where one need not worry about putting on one’s “Sunday Best”, but getting instead a “Click here to have Him served up for you to enjoy”, ala a famous fast-food’s “Have it your way” approach, if even at all… Praise God that even though we’ve had to make some changes to the way we’ve had to do “Church”, He hasn’t changed…He has continued to watch over us through these times, just as He did His beloved people when His prophet (Jeremiah, probably) wrote the words of Scripture above. He hasn’t abandoned us…His word hasn’t lost it’s power…His Holy Spirit hasn’t left His people, all who have held on to Him…who haven’t “Cast(ed) off (their) restraint”, but have held fast to Him who was, is, and forever shall be…now and forever…Amen!

Pastor’s Devo… Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but

blessed is he who keeps the law. Proverbs 29:18

So now, what???

This might be just what we’re asking ourselves as it seems we’ve begun the process of returning

to some kind of “post-Pandemic” life. State administrations have begun re-opening some

businesses, people are starting to get out more, which is a very good thing, given that the warmer

weather of Mid-Spring is upon us, at least, as far as the Calendar is telling us now in this 5th

month of the year. We’re heading towards “Mother’s day” and we’d like to be able to gather

together, at least in small groups anyways, to resume this thing we call, “Community” even if it is

in smaller sizes…at least it’s not being done on a video screen, but in “real” life.

But what about Church??? Will it ever be like it was??? Will we be able to return to what many

of us had come to know as that warm, comfortable gathering of our “Church family”??? Can we,

or maybe more accurately, WILL we ever have that sense of community that gathered on the

Lord’s day, in His house, to have all the “Smells and Bells” of corporate worship, where we

enjoyed the feel of the bass notes of that wonderful pipe organ as our brother, Dale, blessed us

with his God-given talent, presenting us with sacred music chosen specifically to enhance our

gathering together in our Father’s house where we evoke the Lord’s name so as to have Him join

us and bless us with His presence as we worship Him with our sacrifice of praise, and bore our

gifts, our praise, our God-given time to thank Him for seeing us through this thing called,

“Life”???

Or will the people for whom Christ died, who have been given a time away from traditional

public gatherings find it hard to return? Will they see that they are so many other things that can

be done that are easier…simpler…quicker…more convenient than making that “Lord’s Day”

pilgrimage to that other place, where one has to prepare to meet God, rather than have Him

provided over the “Inter-web”…in a medium where one need not worry about putting on one’s

“Sunday Best”, but getting instead a “Click here to have Him served up for you to enjoy”, ala a

famous fast-food’s “Have it your way” approach, if even at all…

Praise God that even though we’ve had to make some changes to the way we’ve had to do

“Church”, He hasn’t changed…He has continued to watch over us through these times, just as He

did His beloved people when His prophet (Jeremiah, probably) wrote the words of Scripture

above. He hasn’t abandoned us…His word hasn’t lost it’s power…His Holy Spirit hasn’t left His

people, all who have held on to Him…who haven’t “Cast(ed) off (their) restraint”, but have held

fast to Him who was, is, and forever shall be…now and forever…Amen!

Options for Giving

In this difficult time of being together – apart. We are trying different

options to praise and worship our awesome God. The services are available

on the website and facebook page. The Pastor is offering appointments for

drive through communion. And maybe you are wondering how you can

make an offering.

There are a couple of options available.

1) You can mail in your offering to the church at:

Our Savior Lutheran Church

2717 Buffalo Trail

Morristown, TN 37814

2) You can send your offering electronically through the Zelle app. This

was made available to the Church through our bank, Regions. I have

used it and the funds are transferred immediately from my account to

the bank’s account.

First Download the Zelle app, set up your login information and enter

a debit card for the account you want the contribution to be sent from.

When making a contribution through Zelle, log into the app

This will pull up a purple screen with the option SEND or REQUEST

Select SEND. This will pull up a screen where you select who to send

to.

In the SEARCH field (right under the word SEND) type in this email

address [email protected]

On the next screen enter the dollar amount you want to send as your

contribution.

Select Review. You can enter a note if you want.

Select SEND.

You will receive a text confirming the transaction and the church will

receive an email.

If you have any questions about this process, please let me know.

Elder Update for the Church Newsletter.

“I see a light at the end of the tunnel.”

Isn’t this a really strange time for not only Our Savior, but the whole World.

Who would have even given a thought to a disease like the Corona Virus

would have taken to eternity over 60,000 of our citizens?

Who would have thought the ripple effect would extend to over 180

Countries and who would think the virus could settle in our Morristown

area? BUT it has and thank God we have an answer and “YES I do see the

light at the end of this tunnel.”

So what are we “Your Elders” doing to see us through this Pandemic?

As your Head Elder, it was imperative we choose and develop a team of

willing talented Elders. So including myself our Congregation has Elders

Jim Kesick, Greg Skinner and John Weiss, each of us are dedicated to

serving you with God’s loving word.

So to best serve you during this pandemic, each Elder has what I term “A

Flock,” that is a group of Church Members and Friends of our Church. We

try to contact (phone) you on a weekly routine to determine if all is all right.

Are you well? Is your tummy full? How is your PMA? (Positive Mental

Attitude), do you need a visit from one of us or Pastor?

Our goal is “Even though we are apart, we are always together.”

Page 7: Pastor’s Devo… Where there is no prophetic vision …...2020/05/05  · Pastor’s Devo…Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who

Do you feel the need for the Lord’s Supper? Then choose “Drive By

Communion” just call Pastor, set up an appointment, drive by and lo you are

communed. Phones: Church 423-586-8818, Pastor’s Cell 423-293-4251.

I want to talk to you about definite need for many members who are unable

to attend worship with us. We needed a way to communicate with them.

Our Elders question? Who within our Congregation had the talent to

undertake this project and bring it to each of us as needed? Answer: Kirby

Timm. So we invited Kirby to sit in at our Elder meetings and lo within a

short time we had CD’s going to our shut ins. NEXT LOGICAL STEP –

RECORD OUR SERVICE FOR BROADCAST. And lo Kirby made it

happen.

So guess what? When the Corona Virus happened, we were ready.

Now we are able to both see and hear Pastor’s weekly service thanks to your

Elders preplanning and the recruitment of qualified talent within our

Congregation.

Not only do we have the honor of broadcasting of our Service, but we have

the honor of having Organ Music played by our own talented Dale Stanton.

(Just a side comment, we are truly blessed to have our wonderful Church

Organ. Ask this question—how many churches our size have a Randall

Dyer designed and installed Church Organ like ours? Answer: Hardly

any!).

So that brings us full circle and here we are today ready for the word to

come: “Start again your Church services.”

Are you ready?

I Am! Your Elders Are, Our Pastor also!

Don Baldus, your Head Elder

PORTALS OF PRAYER I encourage everyone to read the devotions in

the May section of Portals of Prayer. Each daily message takes us through

the Lutheran Divine Service and its biblical roots. This will help us better

understand and appreciate what we are saying and singing when we gather

for worship. These messages are written by Roberta Hilgendorf, who is a

retired Lutheran school music teacher and church musician.
