The next day she met another traveller who was hungry, and she opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveller saw the precious stone and asked if she might give it to him. She did so without hesitation. The traveller left, rejoicing in his good for- tune. He knew the stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime, but a few days later he came back to return the stone to the woman who had given it to him. ‘I’ve been thinking,” he said, “ I know how valuable the stone is, but I’m giving it back in the hope that you can give me something much more precious. I want you to give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me the stone.’ She said: “ The more you share of your- self, the more you grow.” During this holy season of Advent we are invited to make a real preparation for that one gift we are going to receive from God through Mary. God chose Mary to bring that gift in- to the world. It was announced and foretold by many Holy men and women for several cen- turies and when Mary was asked by the angel Gabriel, she accepted the invitation from God because she knew the more she shares the more she will grow and help others to grow. As we are proximately approaching the celebration of Christmas, this season leads us with the aspect of a great mystery to understand what God is offering us, and at the same time our personal preparedness to receive that valuable gift from God through Mary. Jesus is the pure and perfect gift that God could think of giving to the humanity. Yes, if God could Je- sus his Son, what gift can I return to God? God does not desire anything from us except we love Him wholeheartedly and love our brothers and sister as we love ourselves. In other words, during this Christmas and there- after let our generous love for God and one another, be deeply challenged. May it propel within us to transform into an opportunity and hope for others. Let it become our finest quali- ty, our shining nature as human beings in our relationship to our fellow being. May we grow with courage and wisdom, hope and faith, generosity and simplicity sharing and caring our life more and more with one another like the woman who shared the precious stone. Fr. The Assumption CWL will be selling Catholic

Missions of Canada Calendars at the entrance of the Assumption Church after Mass upon there arrival. They will sell for $20 a Calendar. This money is all sent to support Missions in Canada. This brings the Holy Masses to areas that would otherwise not have this privilege without your generous support. Please take into your home and heart, prayers for all who are blessed with this financial assistance.

We are starting a new bereavement ministry in our parish. The goal of this ministry is support

and care for those who have suffered the loss of a loved one. To help us do this we will be using a program called, "Seasons of Hope". Seasons of Hope is Christ centered and grounded in the teachings of the Catholic Church. It explores mourning by using scripture, prayer, reflection, activities and faith sharing. It gives the bereaved an opportunity to come together in God's love. It fosters healing and spiritual growth as well as a nurturing link to fellow parishioners of faith. It provides 4 seasons consisting of 6 sessions each with 24 different themes over a year. We are looking for caring, compassionate volunteers to help with this ministry. If interested please contact Adie Miron @780-639-3952 or Bonnie Snaith at 780-639-3531 or leave your name and number with Janet at the parish office.

Congratulations to Alexander Bayer who

received his 1st Reconciliation on December 15, 2015.

On January 5, 2016, the

Tuesday morning Faith Enrichment group will begin an eight week study on the topic of Mercy using the booklet entitled “The Holy Year of Mercy – a Faith Sharing Guide with Reflections by Pope Francis.” Sessions are from 9:00 to 11:00 am. The cost of the booklet is $15.50. The sessions are open to all who wish to participate. For more information, please call Sister Céline 780-639-3282.

On Tuesday, St. Dominic CWL helped with the Christmas

Hamper distribution. We extend our sincere thanks to those who came out to join us. Thank you Annette, Omer, Dick, Bob, John, Tom and Marcel as well as our friends from Cold Lake First Nations, and other community Churches. A great time was had by all! May you be abundantly blessed for your kindness.
