Q: Are children of an annulled marriage considered illegimate? A: No. It is a misconcepon to think that the an annulment makes one’s children illegimate. A Church annulment does not have any bearing on the legimacy of children. An annulment has to do with the sacramental validity of marriage and therefore it’s potenal to be dissolved, it does not affect the children born of that annulled marriage. The code of canon law clearly states that: “The children conceived or born of a valid or putave [is assumed to be valid] marriage are legimate.” (Canon 1137) And, “Marriage possesses the favor of law; therefore, in a case of doubt, the validity of a marriage must be upheld unl the contrary is proven.” (Canon 1060) Therefore all marriages are considered valid unl proven otherwise and since all children born of marriages that are at least assumed to be valid are legimate. Children have a God given dignity, which is not diminished by the dissoluon of their parents’ marriage. Fr. Q: Are children of an annulled marriage considered illegitimate?

A: No. It is a misconception to think that the an annulment makes one’s children illegitimate. A Church annulment does not have any bearing on the legitimacy of children. An annulment has to do with the sacramental validity of marriage and therefore it’s potential to be dissolved, it does not affect the children born of that annulled marriage.

The code of canon law clearly states that: “The children conceived or born of a valid or putative [is assumed to be valid] marriage are legitimate.” (Canon 1137) And, “Marriage possesses the favor of law; therefore, in a case of doubt, the validity of a marriage must be upheld until the contrary is proven.” (Canon 1060) Therefore all marriages are considered valid until proven otherwise and since all children born of marriages that are at least assumed to be valid are legitimate.

Children have a God given dignity, which is not diminished by the dissolution of their parents’ marriage. Fr. Andrew Schoenberger

Out of concern for friends and family

facing difficult challenges, the Parish Pastoral Committee came up with an initiative of "Thinking of You Postcards.” Sometimes life sends challenges that make it hard to find the words to express our feelings. There are 2 different styles of postcards and are available in St. Dominic and Assumption on the table in the entrance of the church. Feel free to pick them up to send your prayers or support to family & friends from our parish community. Baby Shower time!

The CWL members have set up the crib to receive gifts throughout the month of May. Your gifts for new born to age two are very much appreciated. The donations will be delivered to an organization in Cold Lake to be distributed to women in need of this help.

St. Dominic CWL is organizing a program encouraging prayer for vocations to the priesthood. This program will fit in nicely with Bishop Paul's call to have a Year of the Family and his desire for families to pray together. The program requires families or individuals to take home, after Mass, an icon titled Follow Me, which depicts images from the gospels. Accompanying the icon will be a sheet with a short reflection of each of the depictions; 7 images, one for each day. There will also be a prayer for vocations to the priesthood. The icon should be displayed and the prayer said each day. The icon must be returned the following Sunday so another family or individual can receive it for the next week. For the exchange of the icon to work smoothly the program can only work with one parish at a time. Therefore, we ask that only those who attend Sunday Mass at St. Dominic volunteer for May through Oct. If you are interested in participating in this prayer please sign up on the sheet in the entrance.
