Pastor Notes O ur Lady certainly was pleased with our celebration of her feast
day last Saturday and Sunday. The sun shone brightly, but with just enough heat to allow a soft breeze to make the day a comfortable one. As I strolled the picnic grounds and saw how many people were enjoying one another’s company, I was certainly pleased as well. Many hands and hearts went into making the affair a success and so we give special thanks to: † Our Picnic Committee consisting of Al Pytel, Ray Freas, Dan
Jenks, Barb Szabo and Erin Szabo for their hard work in organizing and gathering sponsors, prizes and the many things we enjoyed this weekend.
† Our Knights of Columbus who assisted in setting up and dismantling the picnic grounds.
† Pat Kennedy who coordinated the sale of raffle tickets and oversaw the raffle itself as well as all the volunteers who hand delivered tickets and invited parishioners personally to celebrate with us.
† Dan D’Agnese for a beautiful Procession on Saturday. † Everyone who worked at setting up the festival grounds,
running game booths, the hospitality booth, and in clean-up. † All those who served refreshments, especially Troop 810 who
prepared the Chicken Dinners, those who worked the grills, the ladies of the Altar & Rosary who served the bakery and those who volunteered to work the food booths.
† The St. Columbkille Credit Union who provided the complimentary ice cream and the faculty of Assumption Academy who served it.
† The Parents Corp of Assumption Academy who assisted with the children’s amusements and family picnic games.
† Everyone who worked behind the scenes to make out picnic a success.
† And you, our parishioners who came and supported us, either through coming to the picnic, purchasing & selling raffle tickets, or enjoying one another’s company. It means a lot to see parishioners band together to celebrate.
God Bless you for your love & dedication to Assumption Parish!!!
A S S C Once again, we are collecting basic school supply items for distribution at the Thea Bowman Center and for our children in Haiti. Bins will be in the back of the church through Labor Day weekend. Basic items such as pens, rulers, solar calculators, maps, folders, glue sticks, paper, colored pencils, notebooks, and quadrille type composition books may be placed in bins in back of church.
Soccer balls, ball pumps, and jump ropes are real treasurers. Your thoughtful donation is always appreciated!!
Many blessings. Members of Hands and Hearts with Haiti and
Human Care Committees.
A R S THANK YOU to all the bakers, sellers and everyone that donated a basket for the raffle, and everyone that bought tickets and bakery. Also thank you to all the Human Care volunteers that sold the tickets.
And of course, all our Altar & Rosary ladies for all their work!!
Great job!! Maria Fodor,
President, Altar & Rosary Society
A C Come to me when you’re feeling bad about yourself. Come to me even when you think you’re too busy. Come especially when you’re distracted. Come when you are depressed or anx-ious or lonely. Come, even if you think you can do something without me. Then close your eyes and take a deep breath and you can trust that I am pouring my blessings on you – precise-ly because you came to me. For more information on Eucharistic Adoration please contact Marcia Kaiser at 440-503-5593. Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)

D ’ C “Watch carefully how you live” Ephesians 5:15 A man was being tailgated in heavy traffic. Suddenly, the light turned yellow and he stopped; he did the right thing by stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the light with a last minute acceleration through the intersection. The woman behind him who had been tailgating him lost it. She hit the horn, screamed, and made inappropriate gestures. She was yelling and carrying on in her frustration of missing the light. But then she heard a tap on her window. She looked up into the unsmiling face of a tall, burly police officer. He ordered her out of the car and into the back seat of his police cruiser. The of-ficer drove her to the police station, where she was processed and placed in a holding cell. After a few hours, she was escorted to the booking desk, where the arresting officer was waiting. He said, “I’m very sorry, ma’am. This is a big mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you, and cursing a blue streak. I noticed the “Choose Life” license plate holder, the bumper stick-er saying “What would Jesus do?” and the “Follow me to As-sumption of Mary parish,” and the rosary hanging from your rear-view mirror. “Naturally, I assumed you must have stolen the car.” St. Paul tells us in today’s second reading, “Watch carefully how you live.” Does your public conduct match your beliefs?
“Do you leave your ‘Christian’ behavior on the church doorstep?”
H H S S G Mission Statement Healing Hearts is a support group of fellowship and Christian Love reaching out to each other in mutual compassion and comfort. We share our common bond of loss and faith in a social atmosphere bringing us closer to Christ and to each other in hope and faith.

R E Mrs. Barbara Tomusko, Directory of Religious Education August – dedicated to the Assumption of Mary It was so great to see so many of you at the parish picnic – we had a beautiful weekend and the homemade food and bakery was delish - a great time for everyone to get together as church family and celebrate. The Gospel of John today is the classic exhortation on the Eucha-rist. The First Reading speaks of Wisdom. Those who have been given wisdom and faith believe in the Words of Jesus and His Presence in the Eucharist. I came across an article with a thor-ough explanation of how and why we believe in this great mys-tery which can help those struggling with this teaching: http://www.catholicbridge.com/catholic/eucharist.php The new School year begins this week in the Academy and the Office of Religious Education will be open from 9am to 2pm beginning Aug 22. Welcome back! The Office of Religious Education is looking for Catechists for the Children’s Liturgy Ministry on Sunday Mornings and for classroom helpers for PSR on Monday evenings. Persons who would like to share their faith with our young parishioners are encouraged to join this Ministry. Training is available - and the benefits are out of this world! Call for more info 440-526-6690. PSR begins Sept 10 this year for children in Grades 1 - 8. Registration Forms are available in the Rectory Office or online at www.coabvm.org, or contact the Office of Religious Education to have one sent to you via email. Please remember, Sacramental Prep is a 2 year process for First Communion beginning in Grade 1 and for Confirmation, beginning in Grade 7. A Parent Meeting for Confirmation with all Grade 7 Parents will be held at the end of Sept. An email will go out with details next week.

Greetings Assumption Parishioners & Parents,
I would like to introduce myself as the new principal at Assumption Academy. I am so very happy to be here. I have
heard so many wonderful things about the parish and academy. I have met many kind and warm-hearted faculty and parishion-ers. It was a blessing to be selected here and I will work to keep the Academy vibrant and innovative. I enjoyed meeting many parents and families Sunday at the picnic. What a great week-end and celebration of community. I come to Assumption from St. Paul School in Akron. I am a devoted Catholic educator, spending my whole career in Catho-lic schools. I believe in Catholic education and strive to have my staff as dedicated in their roles as Catholic educators. My dealing with the Diocese, pastors and educators has strengthened me as an administrator. I come here with years of experience and relish the opportunity to lead Assumption Academy. I plan to write a note every week in the Parish bulletin to keep you informed about our Academy and students. There have been so many great achievements and accomplishments in the past, and I want you to know about future achievements. Pray for the success of our Academy, staff, and students. We will pray for our parishioners. Please feel free to attend our school Masses on Fridays. I look forward to meeting more of you and collaborating with the parish. “Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.” St. Teresa of Calcutta God bless you, Mr. William DiBacco, Principal, Assumption Academy
