TWO THEMES…

In Saint Matthew’s gospel for the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time, two themes seem to be present. The first theme is that of relationship: father, mother, son, daughter, prophet, righteous man, and disciple. What a variation! The second theme is: taking up one’s cross. Perhaps what ties these two themes together is the fact that sometimes relationships can be a cross, or these relationships can cause us to carry a cross. Either way, we pray this week that the Lord will send a blessing upon all of the relationships that we have. With such a blessing upon us, we are better able to carry whatever crosses come our way.

WE HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN!

Although it may appear so due to Covid-19, we have not forgotten two milestone events in the lives of our 3 parishes: the Sacrament of First Holy Communion, and the Sacrament of Confirmation. Dates for First Holy Communion continue to be worked out. As you might imagine, it will be a challenge to hold this special event given limited seating capacity due to Covid-19. Confirmation is still scheduled for the fall at Saint Gabriel Parish in Fulda. Joining us will be Confirmation candidates from Currie, Slayton, Iona, and Lake Wilson.

JOB OPENING…

It is preferred that the custodian have a boiler’s license, but it is not essential to the position. A copy of the custodian job description is available in the parish office. If you or someone you know may be interested in the position, please contact me ([email protected]) – (507-458-5702) or contact Tom Appel (507-360-9007. Faith Formation Notes

As “par for the course” with COVID19 and its effects on all our lives and planned activities: All Faith Formation youth events for the summer have been canceled, beginning with Totus Tuus, which would’ve been happened in early June. Steubenville North Rochester, was scheduled for mid-July for a good number of our HS students and Camp Summit for middle schoolers is also cancelled. This is all very disappointing to say the least. We had a number of youth & chaperones signed up to attend all of these events. All of these youth activities do a tremendous job of teaching our youth the great beauty and truth of their Catholic faith. Please keep all our Faith Formation youth and their families in your prayers! Here’s praying that next summer we can participate fully in these tremendous events for our youth. Thank you to our very supportive St. Gabriel Church Family for your past support of our youth. For families who made initial deposits for these events, reimbursement will be forthcoming soon from the Diocese.

Sacramental Prep Please continue to keep the following students in your prayers, as preparations for the great Sacraments of First Holy Communion &

Confirmation have been put on hold. Hoping to resume preparations in the near future!

First Communicants

Devon Hakeneis, Mia Kremer & Ivan Olsem

Candidates for Confirmation

Logan Erdmann, Ryder Henning, Chrissy Hermeling & Emily Madison

Looking ahead …

Attention HS Youth & Parents Next summer, we are exploring the possibility of doing a larger mission trip. (Catholic Heart Work Camp) You can find out more about this at

heartworkcamp.com Let Peg know if your student (or yourself!) would be interested! (507)329-6386
