Support the Catholic Relief Collection

Today, and help Jesus in disguise.

Christ is standing at the door of our hearts, knocking, seeking relief from the pain and suf-fering found around world. He comes to us bearing the disguise of the vulnerable refugee, the immigrant family, and the poor and margin-alized, and our faith calls us to respond. Your generosity to The Catholic Relief Services Col-lection (CRSC) helps six Catholic organizations comfort Christ, whom we find in the suffering brothers and sisters in our midst.

With your help, the Parishes Organized to Wel-come Refugees (POWR) program has orga-nized thousands of volunteers to help refugees with legal work, medical services, and language skills. The volunteers have offered friendship, warm meals, and jobs and have welcomed the newcomers into local parishes, providing a smooth transition to their new home.

When refugees come to the United States, hous-ing must be secured within a short time frame. In Portland, Oregon, this is a significant challenge, because the city has one of the highest rental oc-cupancy rates in the country. But with your support of the CRSC, Holy Trinity Parish has been able to offer a nine- bedroom home and send volunteers to welcome refugee newcomers, giving space and support during their initial adjustment, while perma-

nent housing is secured and set up. Refugees typi-cally stay in the house no more than three weeks before they move into permanent housing. Now, Holy Trinity Parish is working with other faith- based organizations to replicate this program in other Portland neighborhoods.

• Give water to quench Jesus’ thirst in the people of Syria and Niger . . . through the humanitarian work of Catholic Relief Services (CRS).

• Offer legal assistance to Jesus in struggling immigrants . . . through the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC).

• Reach out to comfort Jesus’ loneli-ness in isolated workers . . . through the pastoral work of the USCCB Secretariat of Cultural Diversity in the Church.

• Advocate on behalf of Jesus in the poor and marginalized . . . through the public policy work of the USCCB Department of Justice, Peace and Human Development.

• Send aid to Jesus in the victims of natural disasters . . . through the Holy Father’s Relief Fund.

Our young people are very lucky that Friar Franck will be helping the youth ministry this summer. On his tall list of ministries he will be involved with, he is excited to share

the summer with the youth of our parish.

DAY OF PRAYER AT THE BEACH

The New Britain Council of Catholic Women is hosting a “Day of Prayer at the Beach” for women and men at Mer-cy by the Sea Retreat and Conference Center in Madison, CT on Saturday, June 23rd from 9 am to 4 pm. The day will consist of prayer, sharing, lunch, and quiet time to enjoy the 33 acres of pristine waterfront property. Sister Patricia Cook, Sister of Mercy, will lead the day. Sister is a leader of Retreats, provides Spiritual Direction, and leads annual pilgrimages to the Holy Land. The cost is $40.00 per person.
