PAST SIMPLE: REGULAR VERBSWHEN DO WE USE PAST SIMPLE?

Past Simple is used to talk about activities or situations that began and ended in the past.

Most simple past verbs are formed by adding -ed (regular verbs)

Other verbs have irregular past forms (irregular verbs)

But today, we are going to learn only regular verbs in affirmative sentences and interrogative form.

CHANGING SENTENCES: PRESENT TO PAST

I TRAVEL TO LIMA WITH MY FAMILY.

PRESENT SIMPLE

SHE DANCES TANGO WITH HER FRIENDS.

WE PLAY VOLLEYBALL AT THE BEACH.

YOU WATCH A LOT OF MOVIES.

THEY WASH MY BROTHER’S CAR.

PAST SIMPLE

I TRAVELED TO LIMA WITH MY FAMILY.

SHE DANCED TANGO WITH MY FRIENDS.

WE PLAYED VOLLEYBALL AT THE BEACH.

YOU WATCHED A LOT OF MOVIES.

THEY WASHED MY BROTHER’S CAR.

When you write affirmative sentences in past simple using regular verbs, you have to add –ed to verbs.

DON’T FORGET:

PAST SIMPLE: INTERROGATIVE FORM

1. When you use interrogative form (in past) you have to add the auxiliary DID. 2. You can use DID at the beginning or after questions words (what? – where? – when? – why? – How?, etc).3. When you use interrogative form the verb doesn’t change.

For example:

Did you travel to lima in your last vacations?

Where did you travel in your last vacations?
