Providing mariners with the weather insight needed to make informed decisions on the safety of routes.

Weather is one of the most crucial factors that determines the safety, cost, schedule and overall viability of a maritime voyage. Mariners rely on weather data to put together comprehensive passage plans that account for risk and determine operational events that must take place along a journey. Before plotting a safe route, forecasts on factors such as pressure systems, temperatures, visibility, wave heights and wind strength, must be examined thoroughly.
The OneOcean Weather module collects and visually displays information on the predicted climatological, meteorological, and oceanographic conditions of a contemplated voyage. This data is consolidated with navigational information and presented visually on one dynamic, customisable display. OneOcean Weather can be used in the appraisal process to determine optimal routeing, and during a voyage to monitor conditions.

It can be challenging to visualise how weather conditions will impact a vessel along a route if weather and navigational data can only be viewed separately. Without a combined view of all determining factors, it is difficult to establish a passage that is safe, compliant and timely. Furthermore, seafarers must calculate how weather, including currents, tidal streams and wind will physically impact a vessel based on its unique power systems,
dimensions, and cargo tonnage. This information is necessary to determine a ship’s predicted speed, resonance roll, manoeuvrability and risk of danger. Weather patterns can change at any time, making it difficult to ensure that vessels are not exposed to dangerous conditions while at sea. Mariners need access to data that is accurate, timely and clearly understandable to mitigate risk and plan for contingencies in real time.
