CLean INland SHipping - main objectives:
➔ To improve air quality in urban areas by accelerating emissionreduction in Inland Waterway Transport (IWT):
– Demonstrate the environmental impact of emission reduction technologies, alternative fuels and OPS in real world conditions on NOx, PM and CO2
– Develop models on how emission reduction can be applied to the existing European IWT fleet in relation to costs and benefits,
– Increase awareness and support among ship-owners and policymakers on cleaner inland shipping.

Onshore Power Supply
• Demonstration of OPS on public and private quays in Ghent and Nijmegen
• Private quays: “OPS as a service”→ OPS provider in Nijmegen added features: - a security camera- a delivery point for internet shopping
• Best practice guide for ports and local authorities to select the appropriate OPS solution

This graph shows a comparison
between real NOx emission by a
ship in CLINSH fleet with IMO and
CCNR test cycle benchmarks
• Values normalized with maximum values of NOx emission.

Environmental Indexing methodology
11
CLINSH Index / emission factors
• Based on emissions rather than emission standards
• Uses calculated weighting factors to prioritise pollutants
• This flexible method can be adjusted to suit the needs of the
project or policy objectives
![Page 12: Partners - POLIS Network](https://reader035.vdocuments.mx/reader035/viewer/2022070121/62bcceea2676780c2c6fbbb1/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Clinsh connects to the Dutch Green Deal on Sea and Inland Shipping & Ports
• By 2050 inland shipping must be climate-neutral and emission-free
• New steering instruments by 2024
– Sustainability fund: contributions from the fund are linked to an improvement in the emission performance of the ship
– Performance determined by a labelling system based on actual emissions instead of the type of engine
– Labelling system to be developed with help of CLINSH outcomes

CLINSH programme summarized
• Testing the use of technologies in real life conditions, alternative fuels andOPS in order to contribute to reducing emissions of NOX, PM and CO2.
• Carrying out monitoring activities on a fleet of vessels in real time, in orde to get a picture of the environmental gains from greening technologiesand clean fuels.
• Develop (fleet)scenario’s showing the expected impact on emissions of theinland shipping fleet and on air quality in urban areas.
• Monitoring of the effect of OPS cabinets in Ghent and Nijmegen.
• On shore measurements of ship emissions on the Rhine at Lobith 13

CLINSH end results
• Policy tools and recommendations based on thedeveloped scenario’s, including financial incentives (withCCNR) to be presented at the end conference on 30 september 2021
