As Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at the National Basketball Association, Pamela El is responsible for the NBA’s global marketing operation, directing brand development, overall marketing, and advertising for the NBA, WNBA, and NBA Development League.

With more than 30 years of experience, El has long been recognized as an industry leader for her expertise in brand management, marketing strategy, creative development, and media and sponsorships. Prior to joining the NBA in August 2014, El served as Senior Vice President of Financial Brand Marketing for Nationwide Insurance, where she spearheaded brand marketing for financial services and directed the creative, media and research initiatives for its first direct-to-consumer campaign.

PAMELA EL - NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION

Preceding her time at Nationwide Insurance, El spent over a decade with State Farm Insurance in the role of Marketing Vice President, where she led sales and marketing strategy for the U.S. and Canada, including brand management, national and local advertising, sponsorships, and digital marketing. Earlier in her career, El held positions with Terebeam Corporation in Seattle, U.S. West Communications in Denver, and The Martin Agency in Phoenix and Richmond, Virginia. She began her marketing career in 1983 with Siddell, Matus, & Coughter, also located in Richmond.

Throughout her career, El has received a variety of distinctions including being named to Advertising Age’s 100 Most Influential Women in Advertising in 2012. She has been recognizing with the Changing the Game Award from the Advertising Women of New York (AWNY) and the 2010 Steve Harvey Foundation Corporate Citizen Award. She was also honored as one of the most 25 Most Influential Black Women in Business by The Network Journal in 2009. Prior to leaving State Farm, she served on the Board of Directors for the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, the Ad Council, the LeBron James Family Foundation, and the LIFE Foundation. El earned a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from Virginia Commonwealth University. She resides in New York City with her husband William.

Genevieve Bell is an Intel Fellow and vice president of the Corporate Strategy Office at Intel Corporation. An accomplished anthropologist and researcher, Bell joined Intel in 1998. She has been granted a number of patents for consumer electronics innovations throughout her career, with additional patents in the user experience space pending, and is the author of numerous journal papers and articles. She was named an Intel Fellow in 2008.In addition to her position at Intel, Bell is a highly regarded industry expert and frequent commentator on the intersection of culture and technology. She has been featured in publications such as Wired, Forbes, The Atlantic, Fast Company, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. She is also a sought-after public speaker and panelist at technology conferences worldwide for the insights she has gained from extensive international field work and research.

GENEVIEVE BELL - INTEL CORPORATION

Her industry recognition includes being listed among the “100 Most Creative People in Business” by Fast Company in 2010, induction in the Women in Technology International Hall of Fame in 2012, and being honored as the 2013 Woman of Vision for Leadership by the Anita Borg Institute. Bell’s book, “Divining a Digital Future: Mess and Mythology in Ubiquitous Computing,” written in collaboration with Paul Dourish, was published by MIT Press in 2011.

Bell holds a combined bachelor’s and master’s degree in anthropology from Bryn Mawr College and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in cultural anthropology from Stanford University, where she was a lecturer in the anthropology department from 1996 to 1998.

GUEST SPEAKERS

Terry Stotts enters his fourth season as head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers in 2015-16. A 21-year coaching veteran, Portland introduced Stotts as the franchise’s 14th head coach on August 7, 2012.

A native of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Stotts grew up in Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Guam and finished high school in Bloomington, Indiana. Stotts is married to his wife, Jan.

Neil Olshey enters his fourth season as the President of Basketball Operations of the Portland Trail Blazers in 2015-16 after being named the team’s 10th General Manager in franchise history on June 4, 2012. As General Manager, Olshey leads the organization’s Basketball Operations department, overseeing talent evaluation, player personnel decisions, contract negotiations and salary cap management.

A graduate of Le Moyne College, Olshey and his wife, Leslie Radakovich, are the parents of Connor and James.

NEIL OLSHEY - PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS

A championship pedigree and skills honed at one of the world’s largest sports and entertainment holding companies are hallmarks of Chris McGowan. Named Trail Blazers and Rose Quarter President & Chief Executive Officer in October 2012, McGowan migrated to the Pacific Northwest from Los Angeles-based AEG Sports, where he spent 16 years, including a final assignment as Chief Operating Officer, before becoming one of the NBA’s youngest CEOs.

A native of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, McGowan was a world traveler in his youth, spending a number of his formative years on military bases thanks to his father’s highly-decorated career in the United States Army. He earned his bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of Delaware in 1996, where he was captain on the soccer team. Chris, his wife Susan, and their two sons, Ryan (10) and Kyle (9), reside in Southwest Portland.
