Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) proposed to redevelop the bus station facility at Partick to improve the passenger experience and address current health and safety issues. Partick has become a strategic transport interchange facility in the west end of Glasgow with the redevelopment and regeneration of Partick and the Glasgow Harbour area.
The interchange integrates three modes of transport; Subway, Rail and Bus. The existing station building was opened in 2009 and was further enhanced as part of the Subway Modernisation programme with the refurbishment of the platform area in 2014. The station modernisation was complete in 2015.
The existing bus stances at Partick Bus Station mainly cater for westbound services and serve the Clyde Waterfront / Glasgow Harbour regeneration area including the Riverside Museum. The bus station serves a number of important east/west bus routes together with services to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Glasgow Airport. The bus station is also used as a layover facility.
It is the aspiration of SPT that design proposals are developed to include all engineering requirements necessary that will deliver a design of the new Partick Bus Station in particular improving the bus facilities and the provision of an enclosed passenger waiting area. The objectives include:• To provide a bus station layout that will
serve the current service patterns and create capacity for future growth without the requirement for bus regulators.
• To ensure that there is segregation of all the bus movements from all the other vehicles.
• To improve the operational safety and security through CCTV coverage of the bus area.
• To provide a modern, comfortable, quality waiting environment for bus passengers.
• To improve the information provision for passengers using Partick Bus Station which will be commensurate with a 21st century interchange facility incorporating information screens serving all 3 modes of transport. To provide an affordable
