Whether you want to develop your skills, get a qualification which could help you progress at work, or just learn or re-visit something for fun.

24+ Learning LoansDon’t let costs prevent you from learning new skills! If you are aged 24 or over, a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan can help. You need to be 24 or over at the start of the course (there’s no upper age limit), a resident of the UK for three years and studying a Level 3 or 4 qualification. You will only need to repay the loan once you have finished your course and are earning over £21k a year. For more information visit www.gov.uk/advanced-learning-loans or call 01743 342 543. Bursaries, funds and fee waivers may be available depending on your age and or circumstances. Call us for more guidance.

Student ProfileSally–Ann Harris, Flower Arranging

I enrolled on this course, purely for fun. I work in education, but wanted to learn a new skill and be able to make my own bespoke gifts. This is the second flower arranging course I have done. The group is extremely friendly and we all enjoy the social side of the course as well as learning new skills.

Qualifications• Advanced Apprenticeship in Painting & Decorating• PGCE • Advanced City & Guilds Painting & Decorating Certificate• Licentiateship Certificate of City & Guilds Building.

Experience• 12 years of teaching at Shrewsbury College• National Secretary for Association of Painting Craft

teachers (seven years)• Previous Guinness World Record holder for the

fastest wallpapering • Decorated on ITV’s 60 Minute Makeover• Decorated on BBC’s DIY SOS: Veteran special• Selected to paint at Buckingham Palace

Barry says…I wanted to become a teacher due to the influence and enthusiasm from the tutors at Shrewsbury College during my Apprenticeship, and the people who trained me on construction sites.

The best part about teaching is to see how people’s lives and opportunities can dramatically change – we see this a lot particularly as a result of national competitions. It’s also great fun, and extremely rewarding.

The College is a great social environment for students to work with like-minded, creative and skilled people.
