Butthat’snotall;theCollegehasalsorecentlybeeninspectedbyOfSTEDwhoconfirmedtheCollegeas‘good’withsomeexcellentfeaturesandextremelyhighperformance.Theinspectorscommentedthatthestudents’behaviourandtheirapproachtoworkis‘excellent’.ThereportoverwhelminglydescribesFarehamCollege’sresultsassignificantlyaboveothersimilarcollegesandcommendsitonthequalityofitsprovision,particularlyitsapproachtoteachingandlearningaswellasitshighlyproductiveworkingrelationshipswithlocalandnationalemployers.

LeahPalmer,Directorwithresponsibilityforemploymentservicescommented;“preparingstudentsforworkandensuringthattheyhavetheverybestchanceofsecuringjobsaftertheirtrainingisoneofourkeyobjectives”.Althoughmanyofourstudentscontinuetheirstudiesatahigherlevelatuniversity,manylookforworkduringtheircoursesaswellasoncetheyarequalified.OurhighlyproactiveEmploymentHubseeksoutemploymentopportunitiesandmatchesthemwiththestudent.ThiswaspraisedbyOfSTEDasbeinghighlyeffective.

ScarlettWells,whoisinhersecondyearattheCollegeandnextyear’sStudentPresident,said;“OfSTEDwereverycomplimentaryabouttheCollegesayingthattheCollegehasveryhighstandardsandexpectationofitsstudents.Shewentontosay;“It’sagreatplacetostudyandlearnwithexcellentfacilitiesandtutors.Allstudentsaretreatedasadultsandexpectedtoworkhardtoachievetheirqualifications”.

NigelDuncan,PrincipalandChiefExecutiveoftheCollege,describedthereportasextremelypositiveandatributetothehardworkundertakenbystaffandstudentsoftheCollege.Hewentontosay;“weareveryproudoftheCollege’sperformanceandourOfSTEDreportwhichcomplimentstheCollegeforitsprogressandendorsestheCollege’sstrategicobjectivetobecomeoutstanding.

Hewentontocomment“thisisaterrificboostfortheCollegeasitembarksontheexcitingdevelopmentofabrandnewCentreofExcellenceforengineeringandmanufacturingontheSolentEnterpriseZone.The£12mstateoftheartdevelopment,duetoopenitsdoorsinSeptember2014,willextendthetechnicalprovisionoftheCollegetobeoneofthebestinthecountry.TheCentre,whichwillaccommodateover900students,willbeofferingcoursesinallengineeringdisciplinesandissupportedbyanumberofkeylocalandnationalcompaniessuchas;Britten-Norman,VirginAtlantic,SapphireAviation,BAESystemsJensenMotorsportandGEAviation.

TheCollege,withitssisterorganisationGosportCollege,hasbeendevelopingarangeofhighqualityfullandparttimetrainingcoursesformanyyearsandnowhaswellover100differentcoursesavailableforallages.

The recently released Government’s Data Service league tables confirmed that Fareham College has risen up the performance tables to become the highest performing college in Hampshire and 8th highest performing in the country.
