As you complete this assessment task you will be demonstrating your skills and knowledge to your assessor. The assessor may also observe your practical skills and techniques. Ensure in your work practices that you work safely and efficiently, check that equipment is ready for use and work with others to improve work practices.

Create a folder in your student drive/directory called (surname) Cluster A.

PART A1. Find three other safety signs, different to the example shown below. Create and complete a

table (shown below) in a suitable word processing program. Save this document as WHS Signs and save in your (surname) Cluster A folder.

Sign Meaning and Description Location

Emergency Exit

A green solid rectangle with a white symbol or text

Above doors to be used in an emergency situation

2. Prepare a PowerPoint presentation on your allocated WHS topic (5 slides). The topic will be allocated by your assessor from the following options.

Hazards in the Workplace

Occupational Overuse Syndrome

Ergonomics

Emergency Evacuation Procedures

The PowerPoint presentation should:

include at least 5 slides relevant to the topic delegated

be interesting and stimulating with pictures and design appropriate to the topic (not text dense)

There may be more than one person choosing each topic. Each student must prepare his or her own PowerPoint presentation

Save the PowerPoint with your topic as the filename in your (surname) Cluster A folder. E.g. Ergonomics

PART BRead the following scenario then answer the questions that follow.

It was Sam’s first day working in the office at Fair Dinkum Industries Pty Ltd. They were really busy in the morning so Sam was asked to miss the induction to the workplace that most new employees went through and to complete a few jobs instead. Sam was told the induction would happen after lunch when things settled down a bit.

The first job for Sam was to do some laminating. Sam was unfamiliar with the laminator and managed to melt some plastic sheets onto the rollers and suffered a minor burn when trying to remove the plastic. In the process of checking the laminator, Sam noted that the electrical equipment had not been safety checked in the last 5 years and that the cord was frayed.

Next Sam was asked to change the ink cartridge on the printer and managed to get black powder everywhere. The office manager was angry about that and set Sam to tidying up the office.

After tripping over some electrical cables that were lying across the walkway, Sam tried to lift a box of paper to stack it out of the way and sustained a back strain. It was a miserable start to Sam’s career.

1. Sam missed the safety induction to the workplace.

a. What is the purpose of workplace safety induction?

b. Why is it important?3. A list of potential hazards is given below.

Identify a possible example of each hazard type in the Fair Dinkum Industries Pty Ltd office.

Thermal Hazards Electrical Hazards

High voltage equipment240V mains
