As most of you know Marianne and I are stepping down as the FPHP Coordinators. We have had a wonderful time each and every year hosting the party. Over the four years we have tried very hard to make each party different and fmed with fun and entertainment. A very special thank you must be sent out to our musical guests Jimmy and the Parrots. Each year they seemed to put more and more into the party if that is possible. Over the years Jimmy Sr., Jimmy Jr., Hal and Lance have become good friends. Marianne and I have seen them play at several other functions and all four of them always go out of their way to say hello and to see how we are doing. I would like thank Peter and Lorraine Bosshard for picking out and picking up the Margaritaville Frozen Concoction Maker for the raffle prize that was won by the one and only Metro Joe Lombardi. . Stephanie Jacobs won the SO/50Raffle and she added $50.00 of her winnings to our club charity for this event, which was Long Island Cares. The club wm be sending them a check in the memory of Ken-Do. Irene Scotto selected this outstanding organization. Our 12 Door Prize Winners: Rodney Olsen, Karen Smith, Wild Bill Marion, Rita Beierlein, Evelyn Hodge, Doug Smith, Ken Levine, Jeff Leslie, Jim Totino, Tracey McGowan, Brian Tyrell and Larry DeGennaro. Each beach pail was packed with a good mix of Parrot Head items. Congratulations to all our winners. Who knew that Mitch Goldberg could count peppercorns so fast and accurate! Mitch's superior math skills enabled him to walk away with the METRO PHC Liquor Basket. Thanks to Lorraine for putting that high-octane basket together once again.

Da Spring has sprung,Da grass is rizIwonder where da boidies is

A Poem...By Henry Gibson

Da little boidies on da wingAin't that absoidDa littlewings in on da boids. PARROT HEAD CLUB

ANNUAL ROAD CLEAN UP

The poem wasn't really written by Henry Gibson (those of you who can remember

Henry Gibson reciting poet~ on Rowan &Martin's "Laugh-In" raise you hand) butit was used in class by my 9 h grade Englishteacher Mr.Willig.

I've long since forgotten the lesson that it was associated with it but the poem hasstuck with me. Something's not quite right. But I have stayed at a Holiday InnExpress, so I've got that going for me.

Anyway, Spring is just around the corner, in fact Daylight Savings Time yet anotherwonderful invention by Benjamin Franklin (that and bi-focals which probably are amust for those of you who remember Rowan &Martin's "Laugh-In"), begins onMarch 9 and the Spring Equinox, when it's rumored that you can stand a raw eggon it's end (of course, hard boiled eggs can be stood on their ends just about anytime), arrives on March 20, so that means it's time to break out the pointy sticksfrom their long Winter's nap and partake in the 15thAnnual Spring Road Clean-upof our adopted road, Route 114 in East Hampton.

The Clean-up will take place on Saturday, April 26. (The raindate is Sunday, April27.)

After 15 years, most you know the routine. We'll be meeting' in front of the KingKullen in the Bridgehampton Commons at 10 AMfor a pit stop. From there, we'llmake our way over to Rte 114, for the Springtime Ritual of passing out pointysticks and plastic bags.

Followingthe Clean-up, everyone is invited back to Joe and MarieLombardi'shouse for lunch. Please RSVP,so that Joe &Mariecan plan lunch, either by email:metro.oe 0 tontine.net or by calling 631-324-9354. Ifyou need directions, toBridgehampton Commons, they will be provided when you RSVP.

SWINE NOT?A Novel Pig Tale

Jimmy ButTett and Helen Bransford's Swine Not? A Pi!! Tale is set to be released onMay 13tb. Last minute changes to the cover have just been completed. -The newcover features Bubba reading in a seaside hammock while "Rumpy" catches somerays.

The East Hampton Star caught up with Jimmy's collaborating authorHelen Bransford in the article, "Helen Bransford Brings Home the Bacon."

All the swine-related subterfuge inevitably led to "Swine Not, " a bookillustrated by Ms. Bransford and written in collaboration with her friendJimmy Buffett, the original Parrot Head. Now that the imaginative author andher cloven-hoofed friends dwell in pig-friendly East Hampto'n, it's safe forLittle, Brown to publish it come fall.

"Swine Not" follows the adventures of Rumpy the pig and friends, includingthe pigeolantes (pigeon vigilantes) who "watch the airspace in the city, toprevent animals from falling out windows. " Like Forky, Rumpy is forced tolive undercover in an apartment, only venturing outside when well disguisedas a dog or when wearing her favorite pink wig.

"] was staying at Jane and Jimmy's, " she said, referring to Mr. Buffett and hiswife. ''Jimmy said, 'Let me read it, and took it on his sailboat overnight. ' Thenext day he told me he wanted to edit it and add layers. He got Into it. Tookit to a fantastic level. He likes animals." She said it was originally meant tobe a children's book, and probably still was, although it was one that shouldappeal to easily amused adults.

With 256 pages, Swine Not: A Novel Pi!! Tale will probably attract the olderchildren. Pre-orders are available through Amazon.com for $14.95.

I On February 13th,Alan Poindexter began his workday by waking to I

~ Jimmy Buffett's "Oysters & Pearls". What makes Alan's routine I~ . ~IdIfferent from many other Parrot Heads? Well, Alan was aboard the II space shuttle Atlantis. His work that day consisted of coordinating the i~ ~j space walk for fellow crewmembers. Answer to page 2

The flag shown on page 2 is that of the country of Montserrat. Montserrat was thelocation where the 1979 album Volcano was recorded. On that album, Jimmy

sings about the infamous volcano that eventually erupted on July 18, 1995destroying much of the island and forcing 2/3 of the population to flee. Fins, which

also appears on this album, refers to this small island: "Somewhere downMontserrat way". The history buffs out there may already know how Oliver

Cromwell conquered Ireland in the mid 1600's. The Irish political prisoners wererounded up and sent to Montserrat. Hundreds of years later, the Irish culture is

still heavily celebrated, especially around St. Patrick's Day. This Leeward Island'sSt. Patty's Day celebrations last a full week consisting of parades, concerts, as well

as church services.

A FINALTHOUGHT...

"Well, I'm still here.Didn't have to go torehab, and I'm notbroke." Ain't that the

troth! With Margaritavilles popping up allover, casino resorts rising against the Gulf ofMexico, and a soon-to-be bestseUer loomingin the near future, I guess it is a good self-description of Jimmy Buffet. The tide of the2008 concert season is fittingly named "TheYear of Still Here". With the first day ofSpring only weeks away, and changing ourclocks back to Summer time on March 9th,itonly seems rightthatwe begin to lookforward to a hopefully busy concert season.See you in the parking lot!
