We’re planning to improve trafc fow along Parramatta Road between Rofe Street and Cannon Street, Leichhardt to make your journey easier, faster and safer.
Easing congestion and improving travel times
Reducing the number of vehicles blocking trafc on Parramatta Road at the Crystal Street right turn
A 725 metre section of Parramatta Road between Rofe and Cannon Streets is being improved. This work is planned to start in October 2019 and includes:
• extending the right turn lane into Crystal Street from Parramatta Road by about 180 metres
• relocating two bus stops, on each side of Parramatta Road
• permanently removing parking spaces on Parramatta Road between Rofe and Renwick Streets and Cannon and Crystal Streets for the new bus lane configuration
• removing sections of the existing kerbside bus lanes in each direction
• removing the ‘left turn only buses excepted’ condition at the Norton Street intersection
• installing new pavement surfacing and line markings.

Our work schedule
Our work will be done in up to four shifts, weather permitting. We’ll mainly work at night to minimise impact on trafc and for the safety of our workers and road users. Our work will take place during:
• 8pm and 5am, Sunday to Friday morning • 8pm Friday to 8am Saturday • 8pm Saturday to 9am Sunday. Some work may also be carried out during the day where there is no impact or change to trafc.
Details confrming dates the work will take place will be provided when our work plan is fnalised.
How will our work afect you?
Our work may be noisy at times but we’ll do everything we can to minimise its impact, including completing the noisier tasks by 1am.
We’ll install temporary noise barriers around our work zone and only low noise reversing alarms will be used on trucks. We’ll also help to reduce noise by turning of machines and vehicles when they are not being used.
We’ll provide you with advance notice of any noisy work and trafc impacts.
Trafc changes and pedestrian access
We’ll implement some temporary trafc changes for the safety of motorists, pedestrians and workers.
In addition to the parking being permanently removed on sections of Parramatta Road, lane closures on Parramatta Road and a temporary 40 km/h speed limit during our work hours.
There may also be some impact to street parking. We will notify you in advance if you will be impacted.
There will be no impact to pedestrian access and access to the bus stops on Parramatta Road.
Please keep to speed limits, follow signs and trafc controllers directions at all times. Trafc changes may afect travel time.

Other projects in the area WestConnex M4-M5 Link Tunnels We are building twin tunnels to connect your journey from the New M4 at Haberfeld with the New M5 at St Peters. These tunnels will accommodate up to four lanes of trafc in each direction and help ease congestion on Victoria Road and City West Link.
Construction is underway and scheduled to open to trafc in 2023.
WestConnex New M4 The New M4 Tunnels opened in July and are the frst underground section of WestConnex, extending around 6.5 kilometres from Homebush to Haberfeld.
The twin tunnels are three lanes in each direction and bypass up to 22 sets of trafc lights.
