Getting Around UK and Lexington in a Nutshell
Parking and Transportation Basics
• Take advantage of the campus alternative transportation network
• Download the bus tracking app – TransLoc Rider
• Only park bicycles at bike racks• Mopeds/scooters not allowed at bike racks• Parking permits required for all motor
vehicles, motorcycles and mopeds; bike permits encouraged
• Read the signs and park only in lots where permit allows

BluPass Program
BluPass is a partnership between the University of Kentucky and Lextran allowing all UK students, faculty and staff to ride any Lextran bus route free of charge, simply by showing their Wildcard ID.
Lextran: On and Off Campus• Lextran is the city’s public transit
provider• Operates 7 days/week, 5:30 a.m. to
midnight• 22 routes throughout the city• 2 routes with direct service on/to
campus– 14 Blue/White Routes(6:45 a.m. to 8
p.m.)– 15 Red Mile (~ 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.)
• Most other routes converge at the downtown Transit Center

Other Campus Buses• All buses on campus operate free of
charge
• Campus area transit serves the UK HealthCare Route, Kentucky Clinic Shuttle, Green Route (Greg Page Connector) and Yellow Night Route
• Blue/White Routes operate during academic breaks on limited schedule

Bicycles at UKUK bike permits are encouraged; bike permits are
free and available online. No need to renew – valid for the lifetime you own the bike

More Bike Tips- Bicycles on campus must obey the rules of the road- Watch for “Shared Use” symbols- All Lextran and some campus buses are equipped with bicycle racks

PTS Ride Home Express• Charter buses
offering alternative travel option for students visiting a variety of destinations during academic breaks
• Significantly cheaper than flying and faster travel times than other major bus companies
• Fares range from $55-$155 round-trip
• Serves up to 15 cities
• 2015-2016 destinations included Atlanta, Chicago & Cleveland

• Free shuttles to Blue Grass Airport– Thanksgiving– Winter break– Spring break
• Motorist assistance for permit holders
Campus Vehicle Parking Basics Students should familiarize themselves
with the campus parking map before the first day of classes
Allow plenty of time to get to campus, especially during peak class times (Monday through Thursday mornings)

Off-Peak Parking OptionsParking Structures- Any valid student permit may enter most parking garages after
3:30 p.m.
Campus Lots- Most areas require a permit until 7:30 p.m., but always check the
signs - K or R permits are valid in most Employee (E) and
Commuter (C) lots from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. - No permit required in E or C after 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise

Off-Peak Permits- Reduced rate compared to regular student permits- Valid after 3:30 p.m. in most E and C lots

Purchasing a Vehicle Parking Permit• Permit sales dates and costs vary based on permit type
– R Permits $296– K Permits $272– Off-Peak Permits $148– Moped/Motorcycle $88
• Apply for parking permit at www.uky.edu/pts, by mail or in person at our offices
• Before applying, residential students must have their housing assignment; commuter students must have registered for classes
• If first choice of permit is sold out, apply for student permit lottery
• Depending on area, semester-only permits may be available
Visitor Parking• For planned visits,
students can visit PTS to pick up a temporary visitor pass
• For short and/or last minute visits, visitors can utilize pay parking structures or meters
• After hours and on weekends, visitors can park in lots not controlled for permits … but read the signs!
• Visitor options may vary on event weekends
• When in doubt, check with PTS. We’re here to help!
Football Game Day Parking
- Vehicles should be moved from Stadium areas and Sports Center Lots by 7 a.m. on game days
- No parking on University Dr. on days of home football games
- Students may move their vehicles to most E lots anytime after 3:30 p.m. on Friday; do not move to an R lot
- Vehicle Relocation Map available online
- University Drive & Sports Center Garages are closed on game days
- Cars must be moved back to Commonwealth Stadium before 5 a.m. Monday
Citations and Enforcement• Designed to protect spaces for permit holders
• One citation per year excused if you have permit for area and contact PTS within 10 days
• Most citations/impoundments may be appealed online
• Pay tickets promptly to prevent holds on student account or escalation of enforcement
• Pay attention to email reminders from PTS
