The grass is always greener…on the other side of winter! Now that people have been able to shake off some of those winter cobwebs, we can look at having an eventful summer ahead.

Look inside for all our programs including the Cheers Pablo Paint and Sip Event and our day camp program for children ages 6-8.

Also some thing Look for fun facts about Parks and Recreation. Fact: Parks increase property value 5.22% for a home within 500 feet of a well maintained park. Owatonna has 30 parks! River Springs Water Park will be operating for the 7th summer. Opening day is June 4th at 12:00pm, join us that evening to kick off the summer right! Daily specials, Facebook specials and Special Event days are scheduled throughout the summer. Come check out the climbing wall, body slide or tube slide, and

for the little ones we have zero depth entry, and if you’d rather relax, fl oat along the Lazy River!

July is Parks and Recreation month. This July America will be celebrating 30 years of Parks and Recreation month and the enduring importance of Parks and Recreation for the world. From the start, parks were created to serve the people and to give them a place to appreciate nature, exercise, socialize and have FUN. This mission lives on and will continue to intensify into the future. This July, let’s celebrate the past, present and future of Parks and Recreation. Each July, our department strives to provide families with unique and fun opportunities for the whole family. This year marks our 5th Annual Owatonna’s Weekend Out. The weekend

will kick off Friday night with the showing of Back to the Future 2 in Central Park. So mark your calendar for July 17-19, and look for more details about other Weekend Out activities coming soon! We’re in our fourth season of Movies in the Park at Central Park. Mark your calendars for June 19, July 17 and August 28. Movies will start at sunset each of those nights. Get your blankets and lawn chairs ready for a night under the stars! We have an exciting lineup, starting with Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad

Day, then Back to the Future 2, and fi nishing up with Big Hero 6. Every summer opportunities abound at our local parks! Our department is especially proud of the high quality parks and trails we have in our community. Whether you’re looking to bring a child to the playground, play some tennis, pitch some horseshoes, have a picnic, take a walk, or just relax, we have the park for you.

SeniorPlace is growing! We’re working hard to offer programming for seniors and Boomers! A few NEW events and trips include the Cheer’s Pablo Paint and Sip Event as well as the Wabasha Street Caves & St. Paul Gangster Tour. The Silver Streaks softball is back and gearing up for another season. And talk

about Bang for your Buck…along with your SeniorPlace membership (only $37.58 per person!), you’re part of a business partnership program with over 40 local businesses participating! Just show your card and in most cases, receive a discount, just a few uses and the membership pays for itself.

And what’s summer without a few rounds of golf? Whether you’re an occasional hacker or a Jordan Spieth, you’re sure to enjoy Brooktree. The 18-hole course provides plenty of challenging holes, scenic views and a great 19th hole! Come and see what’s new and improved at Brooktree, from a new outdoor patio with a fi replace, continued cart paths, remodeled kitchen and pro shop, renovated bunkers and new golf carts. More Brooktree information and some new golf specials are listed later in this brochure. Parks and Recreation are vitally important to establishing and maintaining the quality of life in a community ensuring the health of family, youth, and contributing to the economic and environmental well-being of a community. Research has clearly shown that Parks and Recreation helps reduce obesity, depression, and crime, all while building stewardship, cultural diversity, economic development, alternative transportation and academic success. There are no communities that pride themselves on their “quality of life” without such communities having a robust, active system of parks and recreation programs for their pubic use and enjoyment. Don’t miss any of our summer activities…stay connected…like our Facebook pages (Owatonna Parks & Recreation, Owatonna SeniorPlace, River Springs Water Park, Owatonna Dog Park, and Brooktree Golf Course), and bookmark our website – www.ci.owatonna.mn.us/parksrecreation

We look forward to seeing you out and about in YOUR Parks this summer, as the “Benefi ts are Endless” in “Your Best Investment”!

THERAPEUTICRECREATION PROGRAM

Our program offers a variety of leisure options for youth and adults with disabilities. We provide an adaptive format as well as opportunities for inclusion. Our policy within the Therapeutic Recreation program is to plan for the person fi rst, the disability second, and to encourage the independent pursuit of personal leisure interests. Our goal is to make recreation and leisure choices available to everyone, and our objective is to accommodate individuals with necessary adaptations so they may participate as fully as their non-disabled peers.

Membership Benefi ts:• A newsletter six times a year, providing a calendar of trips, special

Inclusion in Youth ProgramsYouth with disabilities or health concerns are encouraged to participate in youth sports, aquatics, trips and summer programs. The inclusion policy of the program provides all children registered to participate with an equal advantage. Adaptive equipment, program modifi cations and other accommodations are used to assist the individual as needed. Individualized consultation with parents and coordination with the coach or instructor helps make the transition possible. In addition, all coaches, aquatic staff and summer staff receive resource information for working with the child in their training sessions. Requests for one-to-one assistance is provided when possible. When enrolling your child in sports and other programs, please let staff know of medical conditions or other special needs. Information shared with a coach or instructor is confi dential.
