. . . in whom we have redemption, the
forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:14
Some might claim that this Jubilee Year of Mercy has
underestimated the majesty and justice of God. After all, do
we not celebrate the feast of Christ the King today? It is true,
Jesus is Lord and properly called King of the Universe. But
today’s gospel shows us exactly what kind of king we have.
Rather than lording it over the others, he freely gave his life
for us. Jesus’ kingdom is defined by his mercy.
Today is officially the last day of the Year of Mercy.
Yet the mercy of Jesus never ends. Let us always speak of
his mercy. Let us know every year as a year of mercy.

Marriage Moment
In every human life eventually tragedy strikes. It may
not be life threatening or frequent, but it causes us to
pause and reflect. What has been a significant
misfortune of your life together so far? How do you
support each other?
Parenting Pointer
This weekend is the feast of Christ the King, but
Jesus rejected kingship and modeled “servant
leadership.” Kings have armies and thus power to
enforce what they want. Servants excel in listening
and seek to serve others’ needs. Good leaders
inspire. Talk with your children about the difference
between a King, a servant, and a leader.
