  • In Jesus and Mary,

    Father Jeff Kegley Pastor

    Jesus is Lord!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This weekend the Church celebrates the second Sunday of Advent. This past Thursday and the following Thursdays of Advent, I am presenting a virtual Advent Retreat on Zoom. The retreat is entitled “Rejoice!” and will presents Advent through the experience of the three people most closely associated with it: the Prophet Isaiah, John the Baptist, and Mary, the Mother of God. “Rejoice! will raise our hearts and minds to experience the joy of a supernatural encounter our Savior. Even if you missed the first week of the retreat, you could still join us for the next two sessions. To register, please visit our parish webpage at www.stmarychurchnj.org.

Our parish is excited to announce that we will hold a Christmas Super 50/50! I want to thank all the parishioners of Saint Mary, Mother of God Church who helped in selling the Summer 50/50 and Fall 50/50. Because of you we had huge grand totals! Congratulations on an amazing job!

As you know because of the coronavirus, the Summer and Fall Fairs could not be held this year. The proceeds from the Fairs, including the Super 50/50’s goes to pay down the mortgage on our beautiful Mary, Mother of God Church. Each month our mortgage payment is close to $24,000.00. Not having the Saint Mary Great Fair and the Fall Country Fair this year presents a great financial challenge for the parish. That is why we need your help this year more than ever in selling the Christmas Super 50/50’s. So, I am asking all our parishioners, Saint Mary School families, Religious Education families… EVERYONE, to help make this Christmas Super 50 /50 a huge success!

Raffle books have been mailed to your home. If everyone in the parish sells all the tickets in their Raffle books, it will be a tremendous help. You can obtain more raffle books at the parish office. The Raffle winner will be picked on January 1st, 2021.

The year 2020 has presented many challenges and the People of Saint Mary’s has been amazing navigating through the pandemic. I want to thank you for all your support and help for our wonderful parish community of Saint Mary’s.

    Have a blessed week.

  • Pope Francis at Mass: being humble means accepting humiliation like Christ

Vatican City: In the life of a Christian, humility is an indispensable quality that is needed in order to allow the gifts of the Holy Spirit to grow. This was the reflection of Pope Francis in his homily at Mass, Tuesday morning, in the chapel of the Casa Santa Marta residence in the Vatican. Drawing inspiration from the Prophet Isaiah, the Pope said that every Christian is like "a small shoot on which the Spirit of the Lord rests, the spirit of wisdom and intelligence, the spirit of counsel and fortitude, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord ". "These,” the Pope said, “are the gifts of the Holy Spirit which grow from the smallness of the bud to the fullness of the Spirit. This is the promise, this is the Kingdom of God” and "the life of the Christian," he stressed. Humility The Pope said that the task of a Christian is to be aware that each of us is a “sprout of that root which must grow with the power of the Holy Spirit, to the fullness of the Holy Spirit in us.” And our task, he said is to safeguard this sprout, this growth which is the Spirit." The Holy Father said this is done by adopting a lifestyle of a Christian that resembles Christ, which is the path of humility. The Holy Father said it takes faith and humility to believe that this bud, this small gift will grow to the fullness of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. He said, it takes humility to believe that the Father, Lord of Heaven and Earth, as the day’s Gospel says, has hidden these things from the wise and the learned and revealed them to the little ones. Humility means to be small, like the sprout that grows little by little to the fullness of life through the power of Holy Spirit. Humiliation The Pope further explained that being humble does not mean being polite, courteous or closing one’s eyes in prayer. Being humble means being able to accept humiliations. “Humility without humiliation,” he stressed, “ is not humility.” A humble man or a woman is one who is able to endure humiliations like Jesus whom the Pope described as “the great humiliated.” Pope Francis recalled the example of many saints "who not only accepted humiliations but asked for them" in order to resemble Jesus. The Pope concluded his homily urging that the Lord “grant us this grace to safeguard this smallness towards the fullness of the Spirit without forgetting the root and by accepting humiliation.

  • Events at St. Mary, Mother of God As we march closer and closer to

Christmas, we strive to be the "light of the world" to others! On Saturday, December 12th, we will have our annual Christmas tree lighting, but this time, we are going big! We will be lighting the huge pine tree at the Church Street entrance to the school. So, we are looking for donations of large, multi-colored, outdoor, 25 ft to 50 ft. lengths of Christmas LED lights to light up that tree. It's a big job and will need to have the lights ASAP. If you or anyone you know would like to donate lights, you can drop them off at the school or rectory. We can all use a little Christmas at this time!

  • St. Mary Church Christmas Care 2019 Dearest Lord

Thank You for the poor You have placed in my midst. Their presence is a blessing to my soul.

I am honoring to help them in small ways. I desire to do more. Their fragile lives, coupled with their great faith, are an inspiration and mystery to me.

Their prayers inspire compassion. Bless all that have less than I do and instill within me the spirit of sharing. Let gratitude and giving be my banners, and may all the glory be Yours.

May justice and mercy have places of honor within my being and may my hands work to relieve suffering wherever I find it.

And may all I do, be in Your Holy Name. Amen

    Dear Fellow Parishioners:

Can you help??? Once again, we are asking for help to lighten the burden many people

face this Christmas season. There are a couple of opportunities for you to consider. Gift

Donate personal care products. These products will be distributed to the needy

individuals the Sisters serve in Asbury Park and those living in local motels & boarding

houses. PLEASE ONLY NEW, UNOPENED items. No pharmaceutical items, please.

Please keep the Shop Rite food certificates separate from the personal items. Items can be brought in a GIFT BAG or Staples box and will be collected after all the Masses OUTSIDE THE CHURCH due to Covid 19 the weekend of Dec 12/13 in the Narthex.

Please have in each Gift bag or box:
