RISE, AND DO NOT BE AFRAID

Today's gospel is one of great mystery: the transfiguration. Moses and Elijah appear next to Jesus, who was completely transfigured, radiating pure light. Imagine yourself there... The sight must have been out of this world! In the face of all this glory, Peter's first reaction is to set up three dwellings, offering them worldly comfort. How often is God right in front of us, showing us divinity and a plan for our life, and w e f o c u s o n l o g i s t i c s a n d w o r l d l y preoccupations?

As a matter of fact, today during Mass, we will witness one of the greatest miracles of all time: bread and wine becoming Jesus' body and blood. The Eucharist is the sacrament where we get a glimpse of God's glory and power. For a moment, heaven and earth meet. As we witness this miracle today, where will our heart and mind be? Will we be checking the time or reveling in God's glory? Will we thinking about the things we need to do this week or listening to God speak to our heart?

Jesus' words to the disciples are a wake-up call: "Rise, and do not be afraid." They prompt us to refocus on what's important: not worldly considerations but an attentive ear and an open heart to his ever-living word, calling us to be examples of heaven here on earth.

This weekend is our Diocesan Services Appeal Commitment Weekend. I invite all members of our parish community to join in support of our annual appeal. Our parish goal is $27,413.00.

No gift is too small… every dollar donated helps those in our parish and in our unified efforts in the wider church. Further, one-half of all paid contributions received, over and above our parish goal, will be returned to our parish for our local use here at Light of Christ Parish.

You can submit your DSA pledge envelope during Mass this weekend - or take your DSA envelope home, prayerfully consider your gift decision. Those paying by cash or check are invited to return your completed pledge form, in the DSA envelope, to our parish office. Those who wish to pay by credit card or electronic funds transfer may e n t e r y o u r g i f t o n l i n e a t www.dioceseoflansing.org/dsa.

I encourage every one of our parish households to reflect on the many blessings we have received from the Lord and share these blessings through a generous gift to our DSA.
