Attention Cross Stitchers - We Need YOU!!!

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) has a very special project and needs your help if you are a person who enjoys doing cross stitch. It's a simple project, and you'll have several months to complete it. What a wonderful way to welcome our candidates! Please call Millie Berger, at 419-424-0165 after 6:00pm if you can help. Thank you!

Vocation Thoughts

There are painful dimensions to the path toward holiness. We’re all familiar with the expression “no pain no gain.” Expelling sin from our lives can be difficult even painful. Expanding our hearts, minds, and souls takes work. Letting go of lesser cares and filling us up with God’s love can be a challenge. The temptation may be to put off the heavy lifting until later.

Despite its painful dimensions, the journey toward holiness is worth it. To find the pearl of great price we must get rid of the junk in our lives. Falling in love with God means letting go of the world. Whatever our difficulties - holiness is worth the journey.

Change.

I have constantly heard throughout my career that no one likes change. Change is messy. Change is scary. Change is hard. Well, I would like to suggest that it is not change, but transition, that we all seem to dislike so much. The transition period that accompanies change is the period of time with all the shuffling, moving, and adjustments. Change is the end product and that product tends to be positive.

I must admit to you that I, too, am not such a huge fan of transition. Especially transitions that take place within a short period of time. My wife and I have moved to two different cities in two years, and let me tell you, moving is not my favorite. I hate packing! However, it is with a heavy heart that I tell you all that we are moving again.

Many of you may know by now that at the end of June Elizabeth and I will be moving back home to Lansing, MI. We are moving to be with our families after our baby is born. I have tried to tell many of you in person, but there is unfortunately no way to meet with all of you face to face. For that I apologize. Please know that this was an exceptionally bittersweet decision as we have come to love this community and the city of Findlay. It seems that the right decisions are always the hardest.

A little while ago, I was contacted by my pastor from St. Gerard (our home parish) and was asked if I would consider moving home to be their music director. Elizabeth and I grew up in that community, and both of our parents are a two-minute drive from the church. After much prayer and conversation, we decided to accept. We both knew in our hearts that the Holy Spirit was leading us home even if this meant leaving St. Mike’s.

This timeline is not ideal, and believe me that when I took this position at St. Michael I had no intention of leaving so soon. However, the best way to make God laugh is to tell him your plan, right? Please know that this decision was made for my family and nothing more. I have loved getting to know all of you so well.

Fr. Mike and I are putting a plan in place for finding my replacement, and we will be posting the position soon. The goal is to have someone a few months before I leave so I can help train the new director. I am not leaving you all in the lurch! Just know that you are still stuck with me for now, and I will continue to give 110% to our music ministry.

I ask that you please keep Elizabeth and I in your prayers as we prepare for the birth of our child in May and make this transition. Please know that my prayers continue to be for you all and our parish community. My door is always open if you wish to talk or have any questions.

All the best, Ben

NEW - Parish Outreach Ministry

In the Word of God it tells us in Matthew 11:11 that even as great as John the Baptist was ushering in the Christ, the Savior of the world, we are greater than he if we believe in Who the Christ is, and why He took on flesh. Jesus tells us that He came to serve and not be served. As the New Year begins, where do we stand in the kingdom of heaven on earth? Are we hoping to be ministered to, or are we submitting our lives to the beliefs of the Son of God? Are we constantly seeking gifts from the Lord, or are we sharing the gifts that we possess with those in need? The Outreach Ministry at St. Michael Parish is moving forward with its vision. “We the people of St. Michael Parish, led by the gospel of Jesus Christ, Will welcome you when you are estrangedG.Feed you when you are hungryG.Give you drink when you are thirstyG.Clothe you when you are nakedG.Care for you when you are illG.Visit you when you are in imprisoned. Truly I tell you, whatever you do for the least of these, you do for Me, and the righteous will have eternal life.” During this year, we will be seeking assistance from our parish to accomplish our vision. The sharing of our time, our treasure and our talents, will be necessary for us to fulfill the vision set up by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I would like to send out a big “THANK YOU” to our parish for opening their hearts to those in need over the past years. Backyard Mission, Habitat for Humanity, collections for Christian Clearing House and Women’s Resource Center, Share the Harvest, and Adopt a Family are just a few of the examples of following the Gospel.

Our school has also been very instrumental in reaching out to those who may need assistance. Taking up collections for Adopt a Family, donating hundreds of jars of PB&J, collecting mittens for little cold hands and holding a diaper drive are just a few of the awesome ways our SMS have helped.

Our Discipleship program has collected items for Hope House and assisted in the funding of the Belize Mission in Central America. Our Youth Ministry has assisted those who cannot rake their lawns with the program called Rake and Run, raking 20 lawns. GG.”THANK YOU”GG.

Along with the above mentioned ministries, there are many, many more ministries and individuals who have reached out and served rather than being servedG.. “THANK YOU”G...

The Outreach Ministry office is open two days a week on Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Along with calling those who signed up for assistance during Share the Harvest and Adopt a Family to check on them, we also will meet individually with anyone who may need assistance in understanding their situation and how to attain their goals in life.

The Kingdom of Heaven on earth is alive and doing well, especially here at St. Michael the Archangel Parish.

God Bless, Deacon Dave

In marriage, we vow to take our partnerGto have and to holdGin sickness and in health. While sickness takes many forms, some more serious than others, even the common cold can burden our ability to fulfill our vows causing emotional stress and annoying lifestyle interruptions. Being sick can dampen the cheeriest demeanors making it harder to love and be loved. It often takes overwhelming circumstances to remind us how much we rely on each other, and how much we need prayer. To strengthen our immunity to physical sickness (and resulting marital stress) we can wash our hands, and take our vitamins, but most importantly strengthen our bond through daily prayer that the healing touch of Jesus brings relief and energy to our bodies and hearts.

• Simply say “‘I’m sorry” when you’re wrong.

• Plan an outdoor hike, or if it’s too cold, play a board game as a family.

• Take time each day to spend 30 minutes in conversation with your family.

• Offer to babysit for a single mom.

• Forgive someone a debt and never bring it

up again.

• Ask someone “How are you really doing?”

And then really listen to their response.
