PARISH OF ST MARY OF THE ASSUMPTION

Twenty first Sunday in ordinary time

ST. PAUL

‘The Lord disciplines

those he loves.’

Entrance Antiphon:

Listen Lord, and answer me.

Save your servant who trusts

in you. I call to you all day long,

have mercy on me, O Lord.

1st Reading:

Isaiah 66:18-21

Psalms 116

Responsorial Psalm:

Go out to all the world and tell

the Good News.

2nd Reading:

Hebrews 12:5-7,11-13

Gospel Acclamation:

Alleluia, alleluia!

I am the way, the truth, and

the life, says the Lord; no one

comes to the Father, except

through me.

Alleluia!

Gospel:

Luke 13:22-30

Before Communion:

Merciful God, the perfect

sacrifice of Jesus Christ made

us your people. In your love,

grant peace and unity to your

Church.

Communion Antiphon:

Lord, the earth is filled with

your gift from heaven; man

grows bread from earth, and

wine to cheer his heart.

After Communion:

Lord, may this eucharist

increase within us the healing

power of your love. May it

guide and direct our efforts to

please you in all things.

Rejection is never easy to accept. The Gospel speaks of a much more

painful and lasting rejection – those who are not admitted to eternal life.

Jesus does not answer the question about how many will be saved?

Instead, Jesus describes WHO will be saved.

While the gate to salvation is narrow and difficult, it is open to all who are

known by Jesus. Being saved is not accomplished by mere association

with Jesus, but by the transformation which comes from sharing in his

life, death and resurrection.

We must walk with Jesus to Jerusalem. Like Jesus, we too will meet

opposition, we too must die to ourselves in self-giving to others. Alone this

is a daunting task, but we are not alone, Jesus is with us to support us and give us strength.

Isaiah, too, testifies to this universal offer of salvation not only to the dispersed people of Israel,

but ‘also nations of every language.’

God treats us as sons/daughters and to endure our trials as ‘discipline’ which seems a cause not

for joy, but for pain. Later it brings the peaceful fruit of righteousness.

ST VINCENT de PAUL WINTER APPEAL 2019 The St Vincent de Paul Society (Keilor Downs Conference) would like to thank

those of you who generously donated to our 2019 Winter Appeal.

There was a good response from parishioners, both in terms of the money raised

and in the donation of blankets, winter clothing and non-perishable food.

Your generosity and compassion will provide warmth and hope to the less

fortunate people in our community.

We look forward to your continued support of our appeals, and the work of the

volunteers of the Keilor Downs Conference.

God bless you.

Second Sunday of easter Twenty first Sunday

Entrance:

Amazing Grace! How sweet the sound

that saved a wretch like me!

I once was lost but now am found,

was blind but now I see.

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,

And grace my fears relieved;

How precious did that grace appear

The hour I first believed!

Thru’ many dangers, toils, and snares

I have already come;

‘Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,

and grace will lead me home.

Responsorial Psalm:

Go and teach my people

The freedom of my Gospel.

I am with you always

Till the end of the world.

Gospel Acclamation:

Alleluia! Alleluia!

Alleluia! Alleluia!

I am the way, the truth and the life, says the

Lord;

No- one comes to the Father except through

me.

Alleluia! Alleluia!

Alleluia! Alleluia!

Offertory:

O Lord, I am not worthy

that you should come to me

But speak the word of comfort

My spirit healed shall be.

And humbly I’ll receive you,

The bridegroom of my soul

No more by sin to grieve you

Or fly thy sweet control.

Eternal Holy Spirit,

Unworthy though I be

Prepare me to receive you

And trust the word to me

Increase my faith, dear Jesus

In your real presence here.

And make me feel most deeply

That you to me are near.

O Sacrament most holy,

O Sacrament divine

All praise and all thanksgiving

Be every moment thine.

Communion:

Be still, my soul; the Lord is on your side;

Bear patiently the cross of grief and pain;

Leave to your God to order and provide;

In every change he faithful will remain.

Be still, my soul; your best, your heavenly

friend

Through thorny ways leads to a rightful end.

Be still, my soul; your God will undertake

To guide the future as he has the past.

Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake;

All now mysterious shall be clear at last.

Be still, my soul; the tempest still obey

His voice who ruled them once on Galilee.

Be still, my soul; when dearest friends depart

And all is darkened in the vale of tears;

Then you shall better know his love, his heart,

Who comes to soothe your sorrows, calm your

fears.

Be still, my soul; for Jesus can repay

From his own fullness all he takes away.

Be still, my soul; the hour is hastening on

When we shall be forever with the Lord,

When disappointment, grief, and fear are

gone,

Sorrow forgotten, love's pure joy restored.

Be still, my soul; when change and tears are

past,

All safe and blessed then we shall meet at

last.

Recessional:

Chorus:

Though the mountains may fall,

And the hills turn to dust,

Yet the love of the Lord will stand.

As a shelter for all who will call on his name,

Sing the praise and the glory of God.

Could the Lord ever leave you?

Could the Lord forget his love?

Though a mother forsake her child,

He will not abandon you. Chorus

Should you turn and forsake him,

He will gently call your name.

Should you wander away from him,

He will always take you back. Chorus
