My dear Parishioners, I invite you to join me in welcoming Farther Noman Fischer, Pastor of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Lexington, Kentucky, and special guest, Mr. Dewayne Smithers, Youth Minister and Hip Hop Artist, who will lead our 2018 Revival beginning this Sunday. An added feature of this year’s Revival is a special Middle and High School Student Session in Deacon Hilliard Lee Hall immediately following the 10:00 a.m. Eucharistic Celebration. Fr. Fischer will be our Principal Celebrant and Homilist at our 10:00 o’clock Mass this Sunday and will lead the Revival services on Monday and Tuesday evenings. Both he and Mr. Dewayne Smithers will con-duct the “Young, Blessed and Gifted” program with our youth. How blessed we are to have them with us for these special days. The major theme for this year’s Renewal is “Rooted in Faith, Hope and Love.” The earliest recorded revival was conducted in Northampton, Mas-sachusetts in 1734 by a young Pastor Jonathan Edwards. Over the years, revivals have taken place in various areas of this country and the world. In 1906 an African American Holiness pastor, William J. Seymour, sowed the seeds of the Pentecostal Movement through his preaching to a Los Angeles interracial con-gregation. The worldwide Charismatic Renewal of the 1960’s and 70’s, was rooted in that earlier revival. It was during this time that the Catholic Church became involved. The first Catholic Charis-matic group was formed 1967 at Duquesne University in Pitts-burgh. When it outgrew its gathering space, it accepted our invita-tion to meet at St. Paul of the Cross Monastery where I was rector at the time. It later spread to Notre Dame University and beyond. Revivals continue to take different forms as they attract a wide variety of Christians and seekers. But they all have certain identi-cal characteristics: among them, prayer, the Holy Spirit, the Scrip-tures, repentance, conversion, and the glory of God. Let’s all pray that this week’s revival, “Rooted in Faith, Hope and Love,” will bring forth lasting fruit in our parish and beyond, —Fr. Jerome, C.P.

Parish News and Other Events

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul requests your assistance with its annual Thanksgiving project. This Project assist about 100 of the sick and shut-in of our parish and many persons who may not be able to

provide a thanks giving meal without this assistance. Contribution Envelopes

can be found in the back of the church. No amount is too small to give to this worthy cause.

Also, next weekend, November 17 and 18, 2018 the Society will also hold a Bundle Weekend. We ask that you contribute gently used clothing and small household goods for this effort. The Items will be sent to the Saint Vincent de Paul thrift stores to assist the Society in lifting those in our community who are down. Thank you!

The Collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) on November 17-18 needs your help. CCHD was founded to break the cycle of poverty in the United States by funding organizations that help individuals help themselves. With the tradition of improving education, housing situations, and community economic development, CCHD continues to make a positive impact in communities nationwide. Your contribution will defend human dignity and reach out to those living on the margins.

The 2019 Workbook for Lectors is available now at the parish office, Monday to Friday from 10am to 3pm. The cost is still only $10.

Thank you to all who organized and hosted our parish celebration of the Feast of St. Paul of the Cross. We had a wonderful variety of foods, music and spent a great time together as a community.

No podemos prometer
