Thought for the Week Give all your concerns to Jesus. Do not care what others think of

you. When you give them all to Jesus, he makes them His own. Let Go & Let God!

Communion Reminder Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, Communion at St. Mary and St. Ursula will remain after mass to cut

down on the amount of people leaving church at one time. For those who wish to receive Communion on the tongue, please wait until the end. This

allows the line to still move quickly without our priests and deacons having to pause to sanitize their hands repeatedly.

Oplatki Christmas Wafers Oplatki may be picked up at both St. Mary and St. Ursula rectories. New this year, the company sealed the wafers in plastic for everyone’s safety. Each

    packet costs $4.00.

Confessions During Advent The final chance to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation before Christmas is this Wednesday, December 23rd from 6:00-8:00 at both St. Mary and

    St. Ursula.

Merger Information Thank you to the very hard working naming commit-

tee, a sub-group of the Advisory Council. They have spent many hours getting the names you submitted broken down. In some cases rationales needed to be expanded and the team researched and revised them. The Names were submitted for Bishop Zubik’s consid-eration this past Tuesday. Due to bulletin deadlines for the holidays, the listing will be available in next week’s bulletin.

Christmas Flowers Included in your packet of envelopes mailed to you is the Christmas Flower Envelope. Please have all

Faith Sharing 4th Sunday of Advent Mary is our guide with this Sunday’s gospel. Her visit by the Angel Gabriel included questions about her fear, doubt, and ultimate submission to what God

asked of her. These same fear and doubt emotions have been uppermost in social news and in hearts of many people during the pandemic. Might we submit

to admitting that we are “handmaids of the Lord” and keep alert for His presence and assurance?

Parish Offices Closed The St. Mary and St. Ursula Parish Offices will close at the end of business on December 23rd and will reopen on January 4th. Phone messages will be

monitored if you have an immediate need.

“May the God of hope fill you with all

joy and peace in believing, so that you

may abound in hope by the power of

    the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

Do I extend God’s joy and peace to others?

Special Days this Week December 20 – O Key of David come and free the prisoners of darkness! December 21 – O Emmanuel, our King and Lawgiver, come and save us! December 21 – Saint Peter Canisius was born and grew up in Holland. He became a Jesuit priest who worked incessantly. December 24 – O Radiant Dawn come and shine on those who dwell in darkness! December 25 – A Holy Day has dawned upon us, Adore the Lord! A great Light has come upon the earth! Golden Wedding Anniversaries for 2020 & 2021 Each year the Diocese recognizes the crowning achievement of those couples celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with a Mass presided by Bishop Zubik at St. Paul Cathedral, followed by a reception.

Due to COVID -19 restrictions, the Golden Wedding Anniversary Mass was not held this fall. Instead, two Masses will be available in 2021. The first will take place on April 18, 2021 for those who celebrated their

anniversary in 2020. Please RSVP to the parish office with your (and spouse’s) name, address, and phone by February 22nd. Participants will receive a personal invitation with instructions after the parish submits the

names of those who will attend. The second will take place on October 10, 2021 for those celebrating their anniversary in 2021. Please RSVP to the parish office with your (and spouse’s) name, address, and phone by August 25th. Participants will

receive a personal invitation with instructions after the parish submits the names of those who will attend.

Project "Christmas Basket" - Thank you! The response to assist with Project "Christmas Basket" was overwhelming! "Thank you!" to all who

volunteered to make cookies, assemble baskets, and deliver baskets. We will provide details around the project early in the new year.

St. Mary and St. Ursula churches. Feel free to take one or more. Proceeds from the donations go to St. Anthony School

ing lottery tickets for the months of January and Feb-

ruary. Each monthly lottery ticket costs $5.00, with

cash prizes awarded daily during the months of

lottery 3 digit number. This fundraiser supports the

general operating fund for the school and helps us to

achieve our annual fundraising goal. Tickets will be

available for purchase in the back of the church at the

scrip table or by contacting Cheryl Graper at 412-303-3657.

Treasures From Our Tradition We are experiencing the darkest, longest nights of the year. For centuries, people in the Northern

Hemisphere have kindled fires against the dying of the light, turning away the dark of the winter solstice, and leading the imagination to hope and new

beginnings. It is thus easy to understand why these solstice celebrations of non-Christian Europe attracted the annual remembrance of the birth of

Jesus Christ, the Light of the World. In time the solstice migrated away from December 25, but the Christmas feast remained in place. From this day, a whole season of celebration developed,

stretching from Advent through the days of Christ-mas, and even beyond to the February 2 blessing of the candles, and beyond that to March 25, the

Annunciation, nine months before the next Christmas. Centuries ago, this was New Year’s Day, and many reasoned that it was the date of Adam and

Eve’s fall, and the date of the Crucifixion. The message is clear: don’t let your Christmas be over too soon. Keep the lights blazing into January, and

savor the meaning of the feast! —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
