Look For The Helpers Letter From Fr. Tim I think that there are a lot of people who unofficially consider Mr. Fred Rogers to be the patron saint of the city of Pittsburgh, and one of the people that he used to quote on his show “Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood” was his mother. She told him once when he was a little boy and he shared the lesson with all the children who were listening to him, “Whenever there are scary things in the news, look for the helpers. There will always be people helping.”

Having just celebrated a Holy Week like none of us have ever experienced before, during a pandemic that is changing the way that we live on this planet that we call our home, I feel inspired by so many wonderful people, “the helpers”, who have stepped forward from both of our parishes to share their time, treasure, and talent during this unprecedented moment in history.

I thank the Lord for Bob Kardasz, our Director of Music Ministry, who found ways through electronic media to bring voices together for prayer and praise in all of our liturgies.

I thank the Lord for Edith Bishop who has been filming every Mass and liturgy for the past three weeks, doing everything possible to bring the Eucharist and the drama of Holy Week into the homes of every parishioner.

I thank the Lord for lectors and cantors who were willing to step forward and serve when many others could not.

I thank the Lord for the Finance Councils of both parishes who have spent an endless number of hours at zoom meetings and preparing reports for the diocese and trying to secure federal loans to pay our laid-off employees.

I thank the Lord for so many parishioners who have continued to support us through prayer & offerings at a time when we need them the most and for the volunteers who continue to help us count the collection.

I thank the Lord for everyone who shared a picture of themselves and their families which we have taped on to the pews at St. Mary’s and St. Ursula. When I walk through those pews or stand at the altar and see the pictures you sent I can’t stop from smiling.

I thank the Lord for Diane Easley who decorated the altar at St. Ursula and for Mike and Nina Dongilli who decorated the altar at St. Mary’s. With hardly any budget at all they helped us to experience the spirit of Easter.

I thank the Lord for everyone who has contributed to the St. Vincent de Paul Societies and to the SVdP members of both parishes who have been working overtime to assist those who need a little Christian charity at this time.

I thank the Lord for our parish office, maintenance, and faith formation staffs who have been working both on site and from home to do the endless tasks that have to be done to assist parishioners and handle a million details.

I thank the Lord for all those responsible and committed to keeping Alpha going electronically, giving the Holy Spirit opportunities to touch lives.

I thank the Lord for all the volunteers who have formed a phone chain and have called or are calling every household that is registered just to see if they are alright and to ask if there is anything that the parish can do for them.

I thank the Lord for parishioners who work at hospitals and supermarkets and anywhere where they come in contact with the sick and the public and expose themselves to risk in order to serve others.

I thank the Lord for all the kind parishioners who have sent an email or an Easter card or have dropped off food or a mask and asked Fr. Ernie, Fr. Joe or myself if there was anything that we needed.

And, last but not least, I thank the Lord for our wonderful principal, Mrs. Moira Edmiston, for her leadership, and for the faculty and staff at Blessed Trinity Academy who have demonstrated exceptional dedication by providing online education and formation for the heart and mind of every student entrusted to their care.

To quote The Sound of Music, “When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I’m feeling sad, I simply remember my favorite things and then I don’t feel so bad.”

Did You Know?

My Jesus, I believe that You are present

in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above

all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as

You are already there; I unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be

separated from You. Amen

What is spiritual communion? St. Thomas Aquinas described it as “an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the most holy sacrament and lovingly embrace him” at a time or in circumstances when we cannot receive him in sacramental Communion.

A Spiritual Communion can be said at anytime of the day.

Festival 2020 The Festival Committee hopes the parish family of St. Ursula and St. Mary are doing well and had a wonderful Easter celebration. We wanted to let you know that with the uncertainty of when the COVID restrictions will be lifted, and the lead times associated with getting things ready for the festival - which usually starts Memorial Day - we, with Fr. Tim, thought it best to try and reschedule the festival for later in the summer. We will keep you posted once we have a new date/plan. Until then, we pray you and your families stay safe and well.

Cemetery Seasonal Help Needed Positions are available at Assumption Cemetery of St. Mary of the Assumption Mondays through Fridays from 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Must hold a valid driver’s license. Email the Catholic Cemeteries Association at [email protected] with inquiries.

St. Mary Youth Last week was the most significant celebration of the year for believers all around the world. Holy Week,

the time for remembering Christ’s journey to the cross, the celebration of his Resurrection, and the gift of new life. The reality is - we have incredibly much

to be grateful for. We the youth of St. Mary’s want you to know we are praying for you and your fami-lies. Please pray for us. We will see you soon.

April 19: Meet on Zoom The youth have been meeting on zoom. A place to hold meetings. We meet in this way to continue to grow in faith and support during this time.

Divine Mercy Sunday: Jesus I Trust in You! The youth have hung the divine mercy picture on their front doors expressing their faith in our Lord and his mercy on us and the whole world!!

Prayer for Spiritual Communion

Home with the Lord St. Mary & St. Ursula Remember Lord and welcome into your Kingdom those who have died and have gone before us marked in the sign of faith, especially Mary Alice Brueckner, Gerald W. Claus, Margaret E. Bardonner, and Florence J. Wilson Mother-in-law of Henry Kowaleski. Please remember to pray for the consolation of their loved ones.

Divine Mercy Sunday O Blood and Water, which gushed from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of Mercy for us, I trust in you! (73).

You expired Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelope the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion — inexhaustible look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.
