April 8, 2018 Second Sunday of Easter Theme: Faith and Fellowship “Birds of a feather flock togeth-er.” With respect to certain instincts, we humans are no differ-ent from cows in a pasture flocking together when a thunder-storm is threatening. We need one another’s company and inspiration to keep going. Marital love can survive only if the partners daily foster togetherness with all the means nature and religion suggest. The survival of faith is subject to the same conditions. A Christianity lived “alone,” all by oneself, does not last. The first reading describes the communal life of the early congregation in Jerusalem. “Koinonia” (fellowship, brother-hood, communion) should be an important element in the life of Christians of all ages. Faith, like love, is constantly exposed to the temptation of doubt and indifference. We need one an-other’s support. You are blessed, if you have/belong to a fami-ly where Christian fellowship is part of family life, where the members pray/worship together, read the Bible together, prac-tice the Christian values of love, justice, mutual respect, decen-cy, and concern together. In such a case, the members of the family carry one another and that fellowship keeps faith alive. Fellowship should also be part of every congregation though this poses a problem in a large parish. We need belonging! Parish Councils should discuss available options. Participate in some activity of your parish. Do not be a loner! Without being exclusive, have friends who feel the same as you do in the matters of the faith. And at meetings, contribute to the val-ue of “belonging” for all. Listen; be open to others, exchange ideas and experiences, share time and talents. “The brethren devoted themselves to the apostles’ instruction and the com-munal life” (Acts 2,42). The above may suggest how to realize this in our time and culture.
ADULT EDUCATION. Sessions began again Wednesdays. Join us on April 18 with Don Brockmeier who will discuss “Franciscan Spirituality”. CONGRATULATIAONS. Covington Latin is proud to announce the following students achieved honors for the third quarter. Ben Fulmer, Elysse Hermes, Jonah Hermes & Greta Koszarek received first honors for the third quarter and Madison Denham and Ian Minzner received second honors for the third quarter. We are very proud of your hard work and dedication.
