MESSAGES FROM OTHERS
To all of the amazing men and women at Parents Of Murdered Children –
I want to thank you all for your time and dedication to the Impact of Crime on Victims class (ICVC). Without you
all I would never be able to teach such a meaningful and life changing class. You all inspire me daily. You each
have changed the lives of the men in the class over the years. We wish you all happy and healthy holidays.
Caitlin, Mark, Margarita and the 75 students of ICVC
SPEAKER INFORMATION MEETING JANUARY – BEREAVEMENT SPECIALIST
Dr. Sandi Howlette presented at the January meeting and we had an Adult “Show and Tell” with sharing an item
of our loved ones and telling our stories in a different way than usual. Instead we shared how they lived and not
how they died. Sandi talked about why the New Year is so hard for survivors. Because it reminds us “of more
time on the books” without our loved ones. Another year passes in which we mourn and miss them and another
reminder of the finality of them not being with us. She also reminded us of how much the body holds and carries
trauma and that results in disease, so we have to try to take care of ourselves in ways to help stop some of that
“holding.”
It was a nice meeting of sharing memories and stories of our loved ones, laughter, and Sandi left us with this
quote: “We talk about them because we’re proud. We talk about them, because they deserve to be remembered.
We talk about them, because even though they are not physically with us, they are never far from our mind. We
talk about them, because they are part of us, a part that we could never ignore or disown. We talk about them
because we love them still and always will. Forever. Nothing will ever change that.” (SCRIBBLES & CRUMBS)
*This was also our Elections meeting for the open positions on our board of directors. Carolee Holbrook, whose
term expired this year, was re-elected as well as four new board members: Mari Bailey, Marie Belmontez, Anna
Ybarra and Ola Wladyszewski. We welcome each of them and thank them for their dedication and commitment
to our chapter.

“If I could catch a rainbow I would do it just for you and share with you its beauty on the days you're feeling blue. If I could build a mountain you could call your very own; a place to find serenity, a place to be alone. If I could take your troubles, I would toss them in the sea, but all these things I'm finding are impossible for me. I cannot build a mountain or catch a rainbow fair, but let me be what I know best, a friend who's always there.”

My Wish For You On This Valentine’s Day
-by Sandy Fox
May love catch you by the throat and
force your lips to break into a smile.
May the files of logic be corrupted in
your brain by a bug called LOVE
May you unleash a storm of affection
on your loved ones. May chocolates,
candies and lovely treats bombard your
family members, friends and dear ones.
May you always have wonderful
memories of your child (spouse, loved
one) who could not be with you
physically on this day but will always be
with you in your heart.

Age 21 DOD: August 19, 2018
If Tears Could Build A Stairway
If tears could build a stairway
And memories were a lane
We’d walk right up to Heaven
And bring you home again.
No farewell words were spoken
No time to say goodbye
You were gone before we knew it
And only God knows why.
Our hearts still ache in sadness
And secret tears still flow
What it meant to lose you
No one will ever know.
But now we know you want us
To mourn for you no more
To remember all the happy times
Life still has much in store.
Since you’ll never be forgotten
We pledge to you today
A hallowed place within our hearts
Is where you’ll always stay.
