We would expect at least 5 (five) subjects at ‘B’
level for automatic entry to Grade 11 IBDP.
It is beneficial to have a broad and balanced
curriculum.
SUBJECTS OFFERED 2015-2016
All students must take English and Mathematics.
The subjects for the IGCSE are grouped as follows:
GROUP 1: Bahasa Indonesia or Indonesian (Foreign)
OR Chinese (Second) or Chinese(Foreign)
GROUP 2: Additional Mathematics or Business
Studies or Information & Com Technology
GROUP 3: Chemistry or Economics
GROUP 4: Biology or Physics
GROUP 5: History or Geography or English Literature
GROUP 6: Biology or History or Physical Education
Travel &Tourism or Music or Art
SUCCESSFUL GRADES
IGCSE candidates will achieve A*, A, B, C, D, E, F,
G or U for each subject.
Grade A* is awarded to those candidates showing
highest ability in a subject
Grade G for a minimum satisfactory performance.
Performance below the standard of G are ungraded
(U).
A minimum grade of C is prerequisite to enter the
upper level of study for most institutions around
the world.

How to choose a subject? Three major considerations:
− Consider the subjects that the student has
inclination for
− Consider the subjects that the student has
performed well in (subject teachers)
− Admission requirements for higher secondary
and tertiary study – look at university entry
requirements (Ms Ezmieralda, Ms Nadia)
Do not be influenced by other students’ selections
Do not choose according to the subject teacher
whom you like

Please note that a subject/some subjects may be unavailable (x) to your son/daughter. Subjects are made unavailable when the school believes that the student’s previous academic record suggests that success in that particular IGCSE subject is unlikely :

Criteria for Grade 9 Subject OptionsSubject Entering IGCSE Programme in Grade 9
English as First Language Minimum overall score for grade 8 English = 50%
English Literature Minimum overall score for grade 8 English = 75%, with recommendation from subject teacher.
Chinese (Foreign) Must have at least 1 year of Chinese studies. Acquired basic skills and knowledge in grammar, pinyin,
reading and writing Chinese characters.
Chinese (Second) Good command of Chinese with recommendations from subject teachers.
Bahasa Indonesia Must complete Grade 8 Indonesian (Advance) with recommendation from subject teacher.
Indonesian (Foreign) Must complete Grade 8 Indonesian (Foundation or Standard)) with recommendation from subject
teacher.
Mathematics Minimum overall score for grade 8 Mathematics = 50%.
Additional Mathematics Minimum overall score for grade 8 Mathematics = 75%, with recommendation from subject teacher.
Biology Minimum overall score for grade 8 Biology = 50%. An additional science can only be taken if minimum
overall score for grade 8 Biology = 75%, with recommendation from subject teacher.
Chemistry Minimum overall score for grade 8 Chemistry = 50%. An additional science can only be taken if minimum
overall score for grade 8 Chemistry = 75%, with recommendation from subject teacher.
Physics Minimum overall score for grade 8 Physics = 50%. An additional science can only be taken if minimum
overall score for grade 8 Physics = 75%, with recommendation from subject teacher.
Triple sciences combination is offered only to students who scored 75% for every of the three sciences
in grade 8.
IGCSE Physical Education Must achieve at least a bronze award in school Physical Fitness Test. School representative in at least one
sport CCA and participates in four practical activities from two of the following categories: games, athletic
activities, dance and swimming. Recommendation from subject teacher is required.

Please note:
1. In choosing from this group it is important to consider what your son/daughter will study as a language option in years 11 and 12. It is expected that the student will continue this choice in the IB Diploma/Certificate.
2. Only those students who have demonstrated strong skills in Mathematics should study Additional Mathematics.

3. It is recommended that those students who have a love for Science, have good skills and a desire to pursue science related subjects at IB Diploma/Certificate and University level choose Chemistry and Physics. For other students, Business Studies and Biology might be a more appropriate choice.
4. Only students with strong English Language skills should choose English Literature.

5. The choices made on the course selection letter will give subject teachers, the IGCSE coordinator, myself and the Executive Principal the opportunity to consider the suitability of each course to each student.
6. Once students embark on their IGCSE studies, we will allow changes only within the first three (3) weeks of Quarter 1. The cost of any extra books that are supplied due to changes will be borne by the parent.
Our Expectations Educationally, the next 4 years are the most
important of a student’s life.
Workload will get progressively heavier and students must work hard and submit work punctually and to the highest standard.
Parents must support and monitor their children.
