Dear Parent, Your child may be a candidate for an innovative, non-surgical vision correction procedure that provides excellent vision during the day without wearing glasses, daytime contact lenses or having vision correction surgery. The procedure is called orthokeratology (ortho-k) with Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses, and it’s FDA approved for all ages. Ortho-k involves fitting your child with a pair of specially designed Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses, which are only worn while sleeping each night. I have witnessed, in my own practice, children whose nearsightedness slowed down or did not progress over years once fitted with Paragon CRT® Contact Lenses. I am interested in learning more about a program to manage my child's nearsightedness (myopia) and would be willing to invest $3-5 a day, for the first year of treatment, and $1-2 a day, for subsequent years of treatment. Indications: Paragon CRT® (paflufocon B) and Paragon CRT® 100 (paflufocon D) Rigid Gas Permeable Contact Lenses for Corneal Refractive Therapy are indicated for use in the reduction of myopic refractive error in nondiseased eyes. Warnings: Incorrect use of contact lenses and lens care products can result in serious injury to the eye. It is essential for the patient to follow the eye care practitioner’s directions and all labeling instructions for proper use of contact lenses and lens care products, including the lens case. Eye problems, including corneal ulcers, can develop rapidly and lead to loss of vision. The risk of ulcerative keratitis has been shown to be greater among wearers of extended wear lenses than among wearers of daily wear lenses. The risk among extended wear lens wearers increases with the number of consecutive days that lenses are worn between removals, beginning with the first overnight use. This risk can be reduced by carefully following directions for routine lens care, including cleaning of the lens storage case. Additionally, smoking increases the risk of ulcerative keratitis for contact lens wearers. It is recommended that contact lens wearers see their eye care practitioners twice each year or, if directed, more frequently. Note: To maintain the Corneal Refractive Therapy effect of myopia reduction, overnight lens wear must be continued on a prescribed schedule. Failure to do so can affect daily activities (e.g., night driving), visual fluctuations and changes in intended correction.
