Answer: If you are loading according to our Program, you should be able to have your horse willingly stay in the trailer (door open) for a minimum of 2 minutes and only come out when you ask...longer would be better. This tells you the horse is finding comfort in there instead of feeling like it’s a trap. Next, horses who are nervous about traveling need two things: an open stock trailer where they can move around and not be trapped with a stall divider, and, a long trip after several extremely short trips. You can drive three feet and then stop for an hour. Then unload the horse. Do this until you can drive 100 feet or even a bit more. Then you should be ready for a longer trip. Just don’t take the horse out of the trailer immediately. Many horses lose weight on long trips because of nervousness and unwillingness to drink. You can help resolve this by giving them molasses and water, it’s like a natural electrolyte. The more you travel them the more it becomes their way of life, but having them be confident about getting into trailers is the big secret. Question: I need help with my horse. She loads on the trailer very nicely, but is a nervous wreck when in the trailer. She sweats off 100 lbs by the time I get where I’m going!

I am familiar with the Seven Games and play them often, but the trailer is hopeless.

Can you give me some advice?

NOTE: there is a huge segment on this in the Liberty & Horse Behavior Pack.

Pat Parelli Honored at the Western States Horse Expo

Pat was inducted into the Western States Hall of Fame in 2006 and invited back to receive the award in person. Rick Lamb, co-author of “A Revolution in Horsemanship” and Expo Organizer, Miki Cohen, presented the award and honored Pat’s 25 Years of Excellence with the Parelli Natural Horsemanship Program. Pat shared his gratitude for the many teachers and horsemen in his life, his passion for changing the world for horses through Love, Language and Leadership in equal doses, and his appreciation for his partners in that effort: wife and Number One Student, Linda Parelli, and Parelli President, Mark Weiler.

New July Savvy Club DVD “Caton’s first Liberty Demo with Casper”

with Pat and Caton Parelli

Horse lovers at the recent Detroit, MI tour event were treated to a very special, first time demonstration. Even with a set program for the show, Pat is always looking for that something extra, particularly something you may never have seen before... Well, at this show he decided to have his son, Caton, perform a Liberty demonstration with his stallion, Casper, while Caton rode his QH gelding, Aspen.

This session includes a special audio commentary with Pat and Caton so we can hear what father and son were thinking while the music was playing and the audience watched this inspiring and surprising event.

Revolution Pat’s Super Star, stud colt...

It’s with great sadness that we report the sudden loss of Revolution, Pat’s lovely 3-year-old stud colt. The cause of death was a heart attack and as you may well imagine, Pat was devastated. He said Revolution was the best horse he had ever had. Upon hearing the news, Tom Atwood of the Atwood Ranches in California offered for Pat to come and look for a successor. His generosity was overwhelming! Pat is touring his ranches looking for another young prospect to fill Revolution’s very big shoes.

Five days of PURE Parelli!

A very big thank you to Jackie Chant, Licensed 3-Star Instructor! Back in April, in Auckland, NZ, Parelli Level 1 and Level 2 students enjoyed 5 awesome days with Jackie Chant. We were sometimes soaking in the rain and ALWAYS soaking in Savvy! The Level 1 clinic got many off to an excellent start and was a chance for some to advance. During the Advancing Level 2 Clinic we had a blast playing and riding to Jackie’s music. Now we’re all coffee plunging, duck landing and having more mature conversations with our horses! My horse, Sirocco, a sceptical Anglo-Arab, was not too sure about Jackie’s voice coming loudly from the corner of the arena, the opposite side to where she was standing (I bet he thought “now she’s seriously savvy”)! A fun highlight was when Jackie showed us how to mount bareback from the horse’s neck. Some of us are still playing the Friendly Game part, of that one! Most of all, I was blown away by Jackie’s focus and professionalism as she made the difficult decision to leave her extremely ill, best equine friend, Archie (in good hands) in order to fly up to help us all with our own best friends. Much appreciated Jackie!

Sian Harries is a lady on a mission, a dedicated horse lover in every sense, a student of Parelli who has used the programme to develop a relationship with a very challenging horse that her ‘mum’ owned! At the same time Sian is a student at Hawkshead Campus, who wanted to share her passion for horses along with her studies hence the birth of the Equine Club!

Neil Pye presented to a group of 150 students, some at Hawkshead Campus, others at Camden, via a live feed! What an amazing world we live in! We were able to join Pat and Casper on the big screen and then discuss life from the horse’s point of view with 150 future Equine Vets who shared their enthusiasm to learn about looking at life from the horses point of view—how exciting!

Huge thanks to Sian for her great organisational skills and commitment to horse human relationships, we are all working together to improve horse human relationships!

Parelli—an outstanding Horsemanship Program and way of life

Parelli is not only an outstanding horsemanship program; it is a way of life. Thankfully I have grown up with a family devoted to the Parelli program and have known nothing else. As a University student, being a Parelli student is one of the most rewarding aspects of my life. I am not only safe and happy with my beloved horses but I carry with me life skills that many people my age have yet to discover. It is for this that I owe a great deal of thanks to the Pat and Linda Parelli and their whole team.

Karina pictured with her Mum, Nicole, at the Parelli Conference in Sydney

Being a volunteer at the Australian International Conference in Sydney earlier this year was a moving experience. I was privileged to play a small part in helping Pat and Linda have a successful conference in Australia. In addition, and perhaps more exiting, I met some outstanding people from both Australia and New Zealand as well as the inspiring tour team from America. And, how could I forget the amazing displays of horsemanship from Pat, Linda and their Instructors! The weekend was by far the most inspirational time of my life having never seen Pat and Linda live, before then. I look forward to their return next year! —Karina M.

“Being an ambassador for Parelli has been the most rewarding thing I’ve done in a long time! I’ve seen Linda and Pat several times and gone to the Savvy Conference once also. None of those times have inspired me like this one has. There is nothing I can compare it to. It was truly moving to be around so many like-minded people and every moment was such a blast! Someone said that watching Pat and Linda ride was like watching an art form and I agree whole heartedly!”
