• Dryden's “An Essay of Dramatic Poesy (1667) is classic discussion of the relative merits of the ancient Greek and Latin drama, the contemporary French neo-classical drama, the English drama of the age of Shakespeare and Jonson, and his own experiments in the serious heroic drama in rhyming verse
