Malaysia.

What needs to be done first and foremost is to make it compulsory for students to pass the

English paper in all government examinations. Then only will people take the language seriously.

In schools too, the number of English periods per week should be increased. Ideally, students

should have English lessons every day. If we are short of English teachers, perhaps we should

consider hiring native speakers to teach the subject. I am sure that there are many wives of

expatriates here who are capable of teaching the subject. Besides, students must be encouraged to

make reading a part of their daily activities. Apart from reading English books, they can also watch

The writer saw a motorcyclist turning into a bend and ..

It was just after 8.00 p.m on Saturday, 20th May 2011, I was walking along Jalan

Manir, Kuala Terengganu. I was watching the traffic carefully, as I wanted to cross the road.

When the road was clear, I crossed the road.

As I reached the pharmacy, I saw a motorcyclist suddenly turn into a bend at the

junction where I was. He was speeding and it seemed that he appeared from nowhere. It was

so sudden. As he sped through the curve, a lorry ran into his bike. It was terrible. The

motorcyclist did not stop at the junction. The lorry driver must have pressed on his brakes to

stop his vehicle as I heard the screeching sound. The lorry swerved to avoid the motorcycle.

Although the lorry driver braked at once, he was unable to avoid the motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist was thrown out of the bike and he was unconscious. The lorry driver

got down to help the motorcyclist. I went to give a helping hand too. Then I called the

ambulance. While waiting for the ambulance to arrive, I saw several other passers-by, had

come to help. It was indeed a terrible accident I had ever witnessed.
