Balram is the novels narrator and protagonist.
Son of Vikram halwai, Rickshaw Puller.
Balram Halwai is a poor Indian villager. He was born in a rural village of Laxmangarh.
He was a bright child but couldnt study due to their financial condition.
He lost his parents very early.
His Family neigher gave name or not give Date of Birth.
Then he starts to work in a tea shop where he begins to learn about Indias government and economy from customers interaction.

Balram then decides to become a taxi driver and learns driving.
He then starts working in New Delhi with Ashok and his wife Pinky madam.
During his stay in Delhi, Balram gets exposed to extensive corruption.
Contrast between the poor and rich is visible through their proximity to one other.

One night, Pinky madam was drunk to forced Balram to leave the car so that she can drive. In a drunken state, she hits something and drives away. Balram is forced to confess that he was driving the car.
we are left to assume that she has killed a child. Ashok's family puts pressure on Balram to confess that he had been driving alone. He become victim.
Ashok bribes the government officials in order to increase the benefit of their family coal business.
Observing his master's gradual corruption and driving corruption and driving him through Delhi's seedier districts, Balram becomes disillusioned and resentful.
Although Ashok is a relatively kind master, Balram realizes that whatever generosity Ashok has show him is only a fraction of what he can afford.
At the end Balram plans to kill his master Ashok and he get sucusses, he become a Enterpreneur.
