Evaluation of the interaction of marine fisheries and

mariculture with the species Caretta caretta and

Tursiops truncatus in the coastal area of the Northern Adriatic district

Needs • Contribute to existing knowledge relating to the delicate issue of

the interaction between protected species included in the Habitats Directive, such as bottlenose dolphins and loggers, and the world of fishing.

• Stimulate the active involvement of operators in the sector by also providing the point of view of the world of fishing, thus helping to support the decision-making processes of the competent bodies and institutions regarding the establishment of NATURA 2000 areas in this sector.

First proposal for a Natura 2000 area

The project was developed through Measure 4.64 of the EMFF funds for “Cooperation”

The main result of the project was the contribution to the definition of the Natura 2000 area proposed by the Veneto region, and the contribution of the fishing sector to the definition of the limitations and compensation necessary to continue fishing in the area.

The project will be capitalized in a second Tarta-Tur project which sees the involvement of the Emilia Romagna and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions which will aim to make the areas, limitations and fishing opportunities in the Natura 2000 areas homogeneous.
