• Jobs led Apple with a unique blend of uncompromising artistic sensibility and superb business sense.

• He was an artist more than a businessman.

• He was similar to one of his heroes: Edwin Land, the scientist-businessman inventor of Polaroid who took his decisions by his own beliefs as a scientist as well as a supporter of civil rights and feminism, not behaving like an insensitive businessman.

What else?

Page 43: Paolo Ranieri Steve Jobs. Steven Paul Jobs 1955-2011

In 1996 Apple started its “Think Different” campaign to restore its

damaged brand image.

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they

have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They

push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy

enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do”.

Who are these people?

Page 48: Paolo Ranieri Steve Jobs. Steven Paul Jobs 1955-2011

The Americans

Page 49: Paolo Ranieri Steve Jobs. Steven Paul Jobs 1955-2011

From the colonies to the United States of America

• 1756: War between English colonies and the French one, that in 1763 were defeated.

• George III imposed new taxation on English colonies.

• 1774: The colonial representatives held their first congress.

• 1776: The congress signed the Declaration of Independence and a war against Britain raged on.

• 1783: The war was over with the American victory

Page 50: Paolo Ranieri Steve Jobs. Steven Paul Jobs 1955-2011

American Constitution

• America is a Federal republic.

• The constitution, ratified in 1787, establishes the separation of powers in three-branches: The legislative branch, called congress; The judicial branch, made up of Federal Courts and Supreme Court; The executive branch, represented by the president.

• 1789: George Washington was sworn in as the first president of U.S.A.

Page 51: Paolo Ranieri Steve Jobs. Steven Paul Jobs 1955-2011

My conclusions are that Steve Jobs is the emblematic representation of the American self-made man, but the first to be so were those who

built that nation.
