Renaissance Music

Renaissance music had many different sounds using instruments like the harp, lyre, and bagpipes. Most of it made you want to dance and jump around; yet, some songs had sort of an ambient sound, ~Sicut Cervus (Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina) - The Cambridge Singers~ DID YOU KNOW?Most Renaissance music came from Europe.

like in the track I have in the upper left hand side. Unlike our modern music, the drums stayed steady with one tempo or beat the entire song. I thought most of it sounded very jolly and the sound of it made me happy.

Early Romantic Era

Ah, the Romantic Era, a time for piano music and symphonies. One of the most memorable artists of this time was Beethoven. He wrote dozens and dozens of music masterpieces. Romantic music makes me feel very relaxed and is one of my favorite genres to listen to while I do school work. The pace of most music from the Early Romantic Era starts slow and steady then speeds up and gets louder, then it returns to slow (or the opposite way around). This is not common in many other genres.Moonlight Sonata-Beethoven

Smooth JazzSmooth jazz sounds exactly what youd think it sounds like; Smooth. It makes the most popular jazz instrument, the saxophone, sound like melting butter. Smooth Jazz artist, like Kenny G., try to make their music sound sensual and relaxing. To me, Jazz is all about love and smooth jazz is a more intense version. Smooth jazz is the language of love in the music industry.

Classic R&B/Soul (60-70s)

According to theRock and Roll Hall of Fame, soul is "music that arose out of theblack experience in Americathrough the transmutation of gospel and rhythm & blues into a form offunky, seculartestifying. Soul music is about whats on your heart, your feelings. It has a very bluesy sound to it, but it generally has a faster tempo than blues. Personally, Id prefer blues because I like the key theyre played in better.DELFONICS: LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU

Without James Brown, we would have never discovered Funk Music. He changed soul to funk which swept the nation in 1970. In the same year, Wild Cherry formed and created my favorite funk song: Play that Funky Music White Boy. Everything that funk is, is shown in this song. For some reason, all funk singers seem to sing higher at some point in the song. I found that in a lot of the songs I listened to. Funk is usually upbeat, and has killer bass lines so you can groove along to it easily.

James Brown- I Feel Good

ReggaeIt was a hot summa day in Jamaica mahn, da year was 1960 and we be banging the drums to da Reggae beats.Reggae music is Jamaican dance music. It has a very light sound to it and there are a lot of pauses in between notes. Reggae has now spread to many countries, each of them changing and bringing a new sound to reggae. Bob Marley is one of the greatest known Reggae artists, but my favorite is Sublime. Reggae music is about spreading happiness and good feelings or vibes to everyone who hears the song.

Sublime- What I Got

RockabillyRockabilly came from a combination of country, blues, jazz, and rock and roll music. Artists like Johnny Cash and Elvis started a revolutionary trend of rebellion. Their music was new and went against what the kids had learned growing up. Elvis moved his hips and changed dancing forever. He influenced kids to think on their own and to say things they were told were bad, but are really harmless. Rockabilly music sounds very country western, but darker. I like how the man always sings really low, while the woman singer is very high; they complement each other.

Moonlight Howlers - Rocket to the Moon

PsychobillyPsychobilly spawns from metal, and punk. It was the child of rockabilly. Rockabillys sound was too mainstream and calm. There were too many rules involved, lyrically, thus psychobilly was born! The artists are about to express how they feel in this genre. It became popular in England when horror movies like The Shining came out.Psychobilly music makes it feel like youre in a creepy ghost town in an old western town. It has an ere sound to it that I just love. I feel like Tom Waits would fit into this genre, even though he is known more as rockabilly blues. The Hillbilly Moon Explosion - 'My Love For Evermore

Boy BandsWho doesnt love a group of boys who seem more feminine than masculine, dance in tight pants on a stage , and play not a single instrument? (me)Boy bands are a group of around 3-5 teenage boys who all sing together. The music they sing is kind of poppy and upbeat. They sing about the troubles of finding the perfect women for them. Bands like N Sync and the Backstreet Boys were popular around the late1990. Every girl would fall for these boys and this still proves true today. For example, One Direction the British Boy Band that formed in 2010. For some reason, us girls just cant resist boys who dance on stage and use too much auto-tune.

N Sync- Bye Bye Bye

Classic RockRock music started around the 1950s but it wasnt anything until Elvis came around. He broke through the norms of what people thought music should be and brought a new spin on it. Today, when people hear Classic Rock they think of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Janis Joplin, The Pixies, and so on. Led Zeppelin is my all time favorite band and Classic rock is my favorite genre. All of their music was about taking a risk, it was telling people about their person lives and experiences. If classic rock didnt happen, we wouldnt have nearly any of the music that we have today.Classic Rock is fast paced, head banging, party music! With having two guitars, lead and rhythm, a bass, a drummer and a singers, rock music has a full sound. Each instrument complements each other. Classic rock is by far the best genre.

Twisted Sisters- I WANNA ROCK

Heavy MetalFirst it was blues, then it was soul, then it was rock, then it was . Heavy Metal music is generally stereo-typed as loud banging double peddle drums and a sweaty man screaming his heart out on stage and that is true. Heavy Metal has many, MANY subgenres such as lite metal, death metal, death core, and more! It sounds like its all about rage and anger, but it can also be about beauty and love, or having fun. The singer, or a more fitting name, screamer, uses heavy metal as an outlet for all of their feelings, just like any other type of music. Heavy metal has morphed and changed so much since the 1980s. It went from grunge Kirk Cobain (lead singer of Nirvana) to Five Finger Death Punch. To me, the screaming of a heavy metal singing is just like another instrument in the band. I dont need to know every word he says to enjoy the feeling of what it sounds like. METAL
